  1. Hello there, I must admit I really like the concept of your mod, it actually seems to adress my biggest gripe with xenonauts in general. The problem is, that when I install it and launch the game, an error message pops up saying - 'Rese.' is not a research category name (Name='Researches.PlasmaExplosives'. I tried several configurations, with and without your mod (actually I wouldn't suspect compatibility problems as I only use your mods, namely FitH and Dynamic Spawn, and skitso's mappacks), but it seems Extended Armouries are causing the problem sadly. I am using the newest xce, but the problem also existed on 0.27.
  2. But by 'directly' I mean point-blank directly. While Vietnam War sure had an impact it directly affected only the soldiers fighting in it. About these US territories, yes you are right though it isn't that big portion of the population, and the impact isn't comparable to occupation of whole countries or bombing capital cities. As for propaganda, it was even more prevalent in Warsaw Pact countries, but gun violence rates aren't that high there (and if they are, it is for different reasons). The things you brought up are certainly factors, but I don't really think they are crucial. The point is American society seem to feel that their country is entitled to using violence as the way of solving problems, however they are by no means prepared for losses, because they lived in relative safety for 150 years. It is the mentality of people that think the war is the place for honourable deeds, but don't realize the enemy can shoot back, in other words, they don't realize the consequences of violence. Don't get me wrong, Europeans are by no means different, and would think the same, if we didn't slaughter ourselves 2 times last century.
  3. Well... while I think the author of the second article does a pretty good job in his reasoning, I feel he somewhat misses the point in calling Americans the warrior nation. If you actually follow the history, United States weren't all that warlike country till the 1941. They took part in just 3 conflict of larger scale - War of 1812, Civil War and WW I (but only at the very end of it). The state of war was indeed almost permanent on the borders against the indians, but they can hardly be considered a serious enemy, able to do anything but show some acts of bravery before being overwhelmed. I am saying all of this because if you follow the author's arguments, British, who took part in almost any war in XIXth century and went throught the WW I and WW II should probably now be on the rampage killing eachother with everything they could find. There is no doubt, that all peoples of the broad european culture (which America belongs to) are very warlike, but the problem pointed out in the text seem to concern America only. Why is it so then? In my oppinion America isn't a nation of warriors without anyone to fight against, but the nation of warriors that have forgot the cruelty of war experiences. Last war that affected the american citizens directly was the Civil War, that happened about 150 years ago. On the other hand in Europe, there are still people who remember London bombing, siege of Leningrad, Holocaust and all the other terrors the innocent people had to go through in that hard time. That is why, I think, the subject of war and violence is different in Europe and States.
  4. Interesting thread. By the way can we discuss them here or you want the thread to be article-links only? And on the subject of second article, there is a made by the popular Youtube commentator - TotalBiscuit (AKA. CynicalBrit) touching the case of violence and video games.
  5. Actually not that well protected But I see the appeal of aliens striking the ordinary people's places of living, however I strongly support more exotic places, let it be Delhi, Pretoria or Rio di Janeiro for example. I think it would be more appealing to the artist as well.
  6. Moscow, Leningrad or some other big soviet city. Why? Because most of the sci-fi are set in a western world, maybe with an exception of Japan (though after Mei-Ji it is probably western cultural sphere as well, just with an asian twist). However aliens in Kremlin would be something totally different visually, a breath of fresh air I'd say.
  7. I must admit I never expected to see a discussion about Adam Smith and Karl Marx on Xenonauts forum. The community surprise me once again!
  8. I have to say that while JA2 style of customization is awesome (especially 1.13) I don't think such game as xenonauts really need that. You see, the main reason why customization play such a big role there is because you basically fight in guerilla warfare, so you use what you can scavenge. In xenonauts everything is done in a facility, so there is no need for customization on field. That means I won't say no to different variants of weapons, but they can work just fine using current game engine. You can perfectly do CQB/Marksman variants of guns just modyfying their stats accordingly and altering images.
  9. @MasterArmadillo First, I wonder how you managed to play beta as xenonauts is still in alpha. Second, I can agree that such file number can be problematic and the devs are aware of it (as you probably know already if you took some time to read their posts), but are you serious? You said that you really want to play the game but slightly longer installing time is such an obstacle that you almost 'threaten' to abandon it? I would call that a rather strange attitude...
  10. Well it seems I accidentally covered Casean's arm with paint... then it would be clearer. But anyways I wanted the corpse to be pretty multilated, and perhaps I went too far. Forgive me, sir! Alien corpses are not what I am used to drawing ;P But I am glad you like it anyway. @zzz1010 Very nicely done. You certainly have some skills in digital painting.
  11. 'Kay Gorlom challenge accepted. How do you like it?
  12. Ah sorry I didn't mention it. Saved game, but from 16.1.
  13. Applied the 16.2 patch but unfortunately the infa®mous bug still remains. I also had a dissapearing civillian issue in arctic map. It happened for one turn, then he was displayed correctly (he was the red coated 'military' one).
  14. It was originally intended for max to do something more detailed, but I'd be happy to sketch your request if I happen to have some spare time (that is quite likely).
  15. Honestly that is very kind of you to share this amazing stuff here. Richer or poorer... well it is like a rhetorical question for me. But to the point. I draw a little, surely not as well as these people you got to draw xenonauts artwork, and in different style (pen&pencil instead of digital) but I wanted to do some proper xenonauts fanart (I did just one 5 min. quick sketchy comic you've probably seen). The problem for me is however getting a good concept when I want to draw something specific, so since you are doing such a favor of supplying us with such nice art, why don't you tell me what you want me to draw? You may consider it also as a "thank you" from a community. What do ya say?
