  1. By Jove... I-I-It's crazy enought that it just might work! Also, a somewhat late reply to Davoren's callsign comment, but yeah, I will do that if there's no feature similar to what we're discussing here, but well, some sort of colouring scheme/icon/etc. would probably be preferable, I'd say. Either way, good point!
  2. I'm definitely with you on this one. ^That^ or maybe the "Fire at their balls!" one! Yeah, I feel the same way - after all, we all know that X-COM was based in Antarctica, eh? EDIT: Although, if we want something more original, (leeching off someone else's suggestion a little, here. On my phone, so I'm not gonna try editing a quote into here!) how about something akin to "We watch with vigilance. We strike with vengeance."? Trying to go for more of a 'brave heroes watching over us' vibe, rather than a 'tyrants ruling us with an iron fist' one, by the way! haha
  3. On the topic, when will we be having the goodies delivered to us? In October when the game releases, or not long before that, or something? (not being impatient; just trying to work out when I can start checking the mailbox every day the moment after the postman arrives! ) Also, as I have somehow managed to live this long without a credit card, (I'm 21) I've gotten a pre-paid MasterCard with $161 dollars on it, to ensure that any international fees and the like are covered by that extra dollar. (going for the $150+10 shipping option) But what I'm wondering is, as I'm very prone to worrying with things that I love, (excellent X-COM remakes, in this situation!) will I be able to give you the $160 - or something slightly less, like $159 - seperately afterwards, if it's just not enough, and Kickstarter doesn't take my money, as it's not the amount I pledged? Since yeah, I'm now officially broke, and if it's not enough, I'd have to get another pre-paid MasterCard with at least $20 on it, seeing as I can't add additional funds to my current card. And yes, I've never pledged to a Kickstarter/anything similar, which would probably explain why I'm so uncertain! EDIT: Well, I hope the fact that it sent me a couple of emails congratulating me, indicates that I've got a sufficient amount of money on the card. Enjoy your shiny new money, Chris! And good job, team
  4. I had that exact question, and posted a thread about it. The answer is sadly 'no', from the responses I got. (you'll be able to edit one in, ingame though, although of course that'll only affect your game) EDIT: And thothkins, I reckon you'd be able to get your username into the game, easy. (hell, I believe Chris said I could use 'Isoor' for my surname; although I'll just use my real one I reckon, just so everyone I know who plays X-COM/Xenonauts IRL will know I've come to be a liability for their team! ) "John Thothkins", or whatever your first name is, I guess!
  5. Yeah, definitely - I recall other games with similar setups, and it's always very handy like that; no clutter unless you want it!
  6. Yeah, I also thinking that possibly (as adding an armband/etc. to each frame would be somewhat time-consuming, as you've also stated) a coloured outline/border around their soldier number/icon on the UI (as seen in the TotalBiscuit video on the main site, I believe) would also be an effective - quite likely more effective - means of knowing what squad your soldiers belong to, etc. (probably would be altered via their 'character sheet' in the base view, sort of thing) But yes, nothing would of course be quick and simple, I'm well aware, but still; this is a suggestions sub-forum after all!
  7. Hey there! Sorry if this has already been suggested, but I don't recall seeing it in the FAQ in this sub-forum when I had a look at it. Anyway, I just thought I'd throw the idea of being able to give different members of your team coloured armbands/coveralls out there, in order to help identify the different squads you've deployed, rather than trying to remember based on what weapon they've got, their names, etc. (eg. a red squad, green squad, and the like) Just a thought! (And sorry again if this has actually been implemented into the game in some way, or has been suggested already)
  8. Sorry if this is a stupid question and has been answered several times already, (or that this is just straight-up the wrong place to ask!) but would I be able to register my future Kickstarter key on both Steam - when Xenonauts is released - and on Desura, for the updates to the demo, etc? Since I've read some conflicting reports, saying to just do one or the other, (can't remember where though, at the moment. Sorry) and some encouraging you to do both/register on Desura now, etc. And well, seeing as I'm a bit of a Steam-junkie, (yes, I admit it!) I'd most likely just get the demo/s via GHI.com, if registering it on Desura meant that I wasn't able to put the game on Steam.
  9. Hey there, just got a few quick questions. Firstly, when you research the improved/upgraded MiG, in order to be able to have them, do you upgrade the purchasable MiGs with the added components etc, or do you actually need to build the plane from scratch? (I'd personally prefer the former, as it's most likely essentially just 'field mods' on the plane, from what I've gathered) Also, on the screenshots on your Kickstarter page, the windows looked to be done slightly differently. (ie. opaque, not transparent) I take it you'll still be able to see and shoot through them just fine, still? On a similar(ish) note, are/will soldiers be hurt by falling off buildings? Since I distinctly recall that the X-COM operatives in the original having incredibly strong legs, and were therefore able to withstand the impact! Finally, are the flares (providing there are flares/glowsticks. I'm not gonna play the demo until I put $160 into the kickstarter next week) like the electromagnetic flares in the original X-COM? As in, are they reusable and permantly activated when thrown? Or are they like the 'emergency flare' typed deal, where they'll burn out after several turns? Thanks EDIT: Oh also, not really an issue, but I just looked through the forum award/achievement list (seeing as I just got a notification saying that I got one then) and there's one for referring a friend, which I've done. There looks to be 25 points awarded for referring someone, but the award's prerequisite is that you have more than 25, and I've got exactly 25, so that's slightly odd. (just thought I'd post this in case it hasn't been noted before)
  10. Alright then, no worries. Thanks for the confirmation Chris; I thought it would probably be worth checking with you guys on the matter, before submitting it! (I guess it wasn't a bad move then, eh?) (Also, are you devs featured in the recruit name list? I hope so - I'd love to see a full team of forum members and game developers screaming and dropping their weapons in terror, all in the name of defeating the alien menace! )
  11. Yeah, since that's the main reason as to why I was wondering about whether nicknames/usernames would be appropriate/doable, as I know people who'll be playing Xenonauts in real life - who'd know me via my real name - and those in online communities who'd know me by my online username - who'd of course know me by my username, rather than my real one. But yeah, I guess we'll just have to wait until others come in here and post, for things to get interesting, and possibly get the ball rolling!
  12. Hi there, sorry if this is the inappropriate sub-forum for this thread, but well, it seems like the right place, so I'll just go with it! Anyway, I'm just curious about what the naming restrictions are for the $125+ tiers are, that let you submit your name to be in the pre-generated list of names. I mean, obviously you wouldn't be allowed to have your name as somethlike like "Amanda Huginkiss" or something, but how about adding nicknames in there, as well as your legitimate name? For instance, mine would be: Tom "Major Isoor" [surname] (pronounced "eyesore" not "izz-oor" if anyone wasn't certain, heh) So, would that be permitted? Since I mean, I wouldn't see why not, as it's not exactly out of the ordinary for people to have/be known by nicknames or callsigns, right? But yeah, just thought I'd check before I go and sink $160 into the Kickstarter within the next couple of weeks, and then find out that my name has been disallowed because of it, or something.
  13. Alright then, thanks for that guys, I guess I'll just keep checking Kickstarter.com and my email, once it's over!
  14. Ah, I was also wondering about this. I take it the email you mentioned will also include a means of giving you our address and name, etc. for the bonuses for the $125+ tier pledges?
  15. I just registered last night too, after seeing the Kickstarter. (although naturally I've been following this project for a couple of years now but didn't want to get my hopes up, as 'too good to be true' projects like this happen to disappear the moment I do get excited about it!) I'll definitely be sinking $150 - plus shipping - into this as soon as I get it, seeing as I've only just blown all my money on archery gear! Should be able to, by the end of the ~31 days.
