  1. Maybe having picture of alien would be good. I mean, thats what we are here for, right?... Umm, right guys? Riiiiiiiiiiiight? And yes, I do actually play scifi games mainly because I like aliens
  2. Must be tough to be developer. I want to be able to be game developer one day(at moment I don't really see that being ever being possible), but more I heard about game industry, more it seems like hard work just gets rewarded with people shooting you in leg and then putting you through treatment victims get in Saw movies =/ Well, if words from random person help at all, I'm grateful for hard work developers put in their games. I also love the sprite graphics and think they are much more worth than graphics/aesthetics in AAA games and that you guys have been doing great job so far. You guys deserve much better. Thank you for pulling through the whining and not quitting because of it. Thank you for making game most people would consider niche. Thank you for making this game. BTW, I can see why people might be complaining about tile variation ^^; From what I've heard, current ones are xenonaut base, alien base, arctic, farm, industrial, town, suburbia and temperate. Actually, thats quite a lot, so they might be complaining because of demo and assume that real game will have that little variation ._. Anyway, I guess they are expecting.. Well, XCOM was long time ago, it was already impressive for it to have that much randomization. People are assuming that since this is newer game, game needs more than just tilesets for different type of terrain. For Example, UFO: Alien Invasion has ton of different maps for different kind of locations and not just different kind of town maps, there are maps for different locations like workyard, map with access to underground pipe network, map in middle east, mountain cabin map, etc... I mean, I guess people are expecting that town maps for example should look different based on where map is located. Or that there should be different kind of forests. Or map for all type of wilderness. That or they think that all maps done with farm tileset for example will look exactly the same. That or they are just bitching about something they don't know anything about. After all, it doesn't matter if there is only one map for Arctic terrain as long it can be used so that it can look both like tundra and like snowy mountain. That or I'm completely missing the point of why they are complaining ; Its also possible that they hear "8 tilesets? THATS TOO LITTLE" without realizing how much work that many tilesets mean or how it actually shows up in the game =/ Honestly. People in Internet nowadays are naive cynics. They believe everything they are told if it strengthens their point of view, but distrust everyone else and assumes everyone is trying to screw them over =/ I wonder whether that is just true nature of people, people turn into that because of masses of people(people in smaller Internet communities tend to act better than in large ones) or Internet just has that effect on people. After all, it is in a way to screw people over in Internet than in real life =/ ...Eh, I should probably stop talking about things I don't know about ;
  3. Well, they censored in Fallout 3 Nuke launcher to Nuka Launcher (And I think they changed name of item named after one of bombs dropped in Japan.(they apparently didn't notice other one because they left item named after second bomb unchanged)) and made you impossible to set off the nuclear bomb in that Megaton city. Or did they completely remove the bomb? Anyway, they do seem to do that with localization at least, so I guess their pop culture isn't good representation of their general culture. That or its "Hey, only we can play around with stuff that is horrible for us!" I have no clue, I don't know that much about Japanese culture.
  4. Well, UFO: Aftermath have Reticulans(aka that series' version of greys) so I assumed its just stylistic... Something. Yeah, I have no clue what it is supposed to be.
  5. Well, if that can be seen from zoomed in pictures, then yes, it would be cool. Though if game would ever get Japanese release, I guess it would have to get censored since Japanese are touchy about that for understandable reasons
  6. Hmm, yeah, that was kind of silly considering that aliens never rebuilt their buildings even if you never did anything. I mean, after destroying their building mushroom factory thing and their ship mushroom factory, wouldn't they be already defeated? Is there anything they could have done with only their portal building? And yeah, is was also silly that you could have had missions in buildings that were destroyed before they even got rebuilt.
  7. Sir, I have to challenge you to duel for calling Apocalypse abomination *continues reading rest of the thread* Okay, people already said that several of your points are due to fact we only have alpha demo available which means it has limited functions from what they have planned, but I have to ask something: Ok, if you think devs are copying XCOM too much, WHY the heck are you complaining about them not having UFOs land in demo? Unless you consider that change for worse(though its most likely just alpha thing, I don't know) Speaking of which, you called Apocalypse abomination(for which I will curse rest of your family lineage ;P), but from what I understand fans hate Apocalypse for changing rather many things(for better in my opinion) so why the heck are you complaining about them trying to keep things samey? In general I do agree with your "point" but not your arguments, in that game has to stand up as its own game. My first post in this forum was about being frustrated by "Xenonauts! Finally true successor to XCOM!" people.(Funnily enough, we buth also have sameish sort of avatar, except I don't think mine is anything living... Hard to tell, its avatar I got from GOG purchase of UFO: Aftermath.) UFO: Extraterrestrial would be better example of what you are talking about in first post, most egregious thing about it is that one of aliens (Sybian) looks identical to Snakemen. That game does have its own features(especially before someone modded it to resemble more like XCOM. Which is version I have played because modded version is Gold edition on Steam)
  8. Well, they are planning to have androns appear in demo apparently, so I guess they could add those or something .-.
  9. Could "Have your own home city/town be among terror sites!" work as pledge reward? I mean, all cities in terror mission look the same anyway so you would just have to add new dots to map on spots which previously didn't have spots. Or would that unbalance the game?
  10. Most of mods feel... Well, most of them have different feeling to vanilla game. For example, I play Fallout 2 with restoration mod, but certain parts feel like maker of mod added lines himself because removed parts in game didn't have the dialog in files and you can tell it.
  11. I personally prefer playing games vanilla so I can't accept the "Don't worry, someone will mod it in anyway" as consolation. Really, I only mod games if they add something removed from original game or if mod really is better game than original game. But yeah, I'm not sure why civilians in alien hives wouldn't been turned into reapers already. I guess you could do combination of alien hive and alien base mission by having alien base located inside a hive, but yeah. On the "Doing research on hives" idea, that would still mean that after one research mission you could just blow up rest of them, I mean alien bases have that as reason that they probably have fleet guarding it or anti air or you need to capture alien commander, but reaper hive is hive full of creatures that breed rapidly. So yeah, when the game is released and if we haven't figured out a way for them to put it in, I will pretty much give up on this.
  12. Yeah, modding is out of the question, so only way to get Reaper Hive into the game would be figuring out a way for developers put it in without being too overtaxed.
  13. So yeah, its already said that reaper hive won't be in the game, but even then I feel obliged to try even if it is impossible, so no need to point that out. I personally want reaper hive in the game because... Well, let's face it, closest thing to alien hive in XCOM type games is Alien Dimension in Apocalypse. And thats it. For some reason, none of XCOM type games have done alien hive. When you think about it, original XCOM series is only one with alien inspired by titular monster of movie Alien(Chrysalid, Tentaculat which was basically floating one eyed tentacle brain chrysalid and brainsucker which filled role of Chrysalid for Apoycalypse), but no alien hive from Alien 2. So yeah, I'm sad people didn't vote alien hive high enough because it would have been unique mission in ALL xcom type games. But yeah, we already proposed that Reaper Hive tileset could be indestructible(there are plenty of ways to explain that and it would make sense story wise too, I mean, in Alien 2 whole movie would have been over if they had decided to nuke hive from orbit earlier No point sending squad to almost certain death if you can just nuke the reaper hive, so having it somehow be damage resistant would work), but that isn't apparently enough for it to be included in game. There have also been suggested that reaper hive tileset could be combined with human base tileset(like aliens building hive there/taking it over/kinda like zerg infested bases in starcraft) meaning that you can just recycle most of tiles from human base and add few new ones. I personally would prefer full hive, but human base hive would still be great. Third suggestion so far has been that it could be dlc. But developers aren't interested in doing dlc and let's face it, if reaper hive is dlc, it won't be like... Well, if you buy reaper hive dlc, you know what you are getting, but if its in game and you haven't spoiled game for yourself, you are going to be surprised by such mission if you know what I mean. But yeah, if anybody has any great ideas about what could make Reaper Hive tileset viable for developers to put in game, please tell them here even if you don't believe its realistic to happen.
  14. Huh somehow it has now 2 up votes and two against it .-. Weird
  15. Yeah, hive tileset could have been used like... Well, you know zerg infested bases in starcraft? Or maybe like biomass in UFO Aftermath/Aftershock, just not have them be over everything...
  16. Well, reading from kickstarter update page, indestructible tiles aren't enough... Now I will have to live with that knowledge that if people had voted slightly differently we would have reaper hive instead of military base one. Oh joy.
  17. There is that thought that since its late game mission, buying dlc would mean that you would have to get end of the game before you can actually enjoy the mission And like I said, its more scary when mandatory, if its dlc then its case of "Huh, that was awesome mission I bought and knew about in advance" instead of "Holy ****".
  18. I don't think DLC Kickstarter would work because there is lots of backlash agaisnt dlc nowdays ^^; I personally don't want reaper hive to be dlc(though I would buy it) because that would make it... Well, optional. I think everyone should feel dread of alien hive in region harvesting all civilians to breed more aliens
  19. Hmm, that could work. I mean, alien hive in Alien 2 was like that, wasn't it?(its long time since I watched that film) Chrysalids were obviously inspired by them, so it could work as homage. Plus there are other aliens who do do the human base hive thing. Anyway, I would personally wish for full alien hive, but if human base hive would convince devs to add it I'd still be happy.
  20. About the original Reaper from XCOM or other thing?
  21. Well, I described it through zergling so he can probably put it together But yeah, kind of funny how original XCOM has enemy called Reaper that is so forgettable that nobody remembers it.
  22. I really want it to be in D: I hope devs soon tell us if our suggestion wasn't enough =/ Probably going to create suggestion thread for discussing about how to make it cheaper/easier/less tasking.
  23. I was hoping that motion detector would be among lower ones and pilot picture one higher. But yeah, I'm probably going to create thread at suggestion section about possible ways to make Reaper Hive take less work if indestructible tile suggestion isn't enough/developers just don't want to do indestructible tileset.
