  1. I wonder if improving the interceptor's range would be more fun or not, since the number od UFO's per wave is limited as is the loadout. Could be an useful thing early on when new players have trouble with air combat. Personally, I find air combat to be too short. Mind you, if you know what you are doing, it's all over in 20 seconds, but I am still learning the tactics. Unlimited fuel could be interesting, except when UFO air superiority squadron hits you with your pants down, and you try to hightail home. Ouch.
  2. Yep. And now we have the dreadded SIIA. Their "mitgefangen - mitgehangen" methods suxx.
  3. I was always amazed how there was widespread software piracy phenomenon, then came kickstarter, something like an anti-piracy phenomenon. How marvellous. "Like it or not, we live in interesting times" - Robert F. Kennedy
  4. Strange. All it takes to blast the UFO entry door is one LMG burst. Half-burst with plasma+
  5. We're lucky that the aliens do not use explosive satchels and rocket launchers. I remember in Jagged Alliance2 the enemy just loved to pepper you with LAW's, mortars and rocket rifles. Ouch.
  6. I have learned a lot from the periodical dev's pop-ups in the forum in the past. I am like that: methodical. If I found a game I REALLY like, I won't mind spending countless hours scouring the net after boards, discussions, FAQ's, walkthroughs etc looking for the tiniest bit of information before starting the 'real' game . Game research is part of the fun to me. Downside is the myriad of questions with which I am bombarding the forums. Thanks for your patience hehe.
  7. One of the research items in the game should be additional interceptor fuel tanks. Yadda, yadda, dreams are for free. Well, the struggle for air superiority is the main challenge in the game, since people have finished the game evenon harder difficulties only with ballistic weapons (allegedly). Also, ity is easy to start a new career with bazillions of millions and..live forever and ever..with a stained coscience. Or not.
  8. Kabill is a modder and a xeno player 'with a white beard'. He knows how the game code works
  9. I am in mid-january and I have completed 52 gound missions. Maybe I missed 5-6, but it was risky time-wise so I just sent airstrikes, too distant or night ops, which I hate in Xeno. Thinking about boosting the electro-flare range from 5 to 10 tiles. Should be more fun that way. 5 tiles is rubbish, a candle would ched more light. I believe that those ground missions carried me over the looming financial death. Sometimes did 3-4 in a row if they were set east-west.I lost Australia, but oh well, the rest of the flock is firmly under control now.
  10. I see it this way: they have their orders. If I want to change those orders, I need to radio in. On the upper-right part of the Geoscape there is a button 'send interceptors'. Those 'with orders' will appear as busy (white instead of green). Seems to work as intended to me. Not saying it is 100% correct, just..okay.
  11. You can 'divert' it. Just click on it and choose 'select new target' and there you go. I remember I've read about some WIP mod where you could have floating bases for interceptors, like carriers. So you could move the mobile floating base where your radar coverage is weak. Never heard of it anymore tho.
  12. Give me some time, I am curently on my 52th Ground Combat mission
  13. Yes the basic armor doesn't look as 'armor' at all, more like pyjamas. OT: In my game I can't see the predator armour inthe equip screen. No armour, no soldier, just vanishes. Can equip/unequip stuff and it it is visible in Battlescape and all, works OK but not visible in the base. Just researching the last tier armor, will see if that one is visible.
  14. They bought their Murcielagos and drove away?
  15. An Golden Oldie, Patrician III has that feature, transparent buildings on-command. Also an isometric 2D game. In that game for example you build houses for your workers in various cities. So do your AI competitors and the city council itself. After some time, its a jumble of houses and no way you can tell which are your which are not. So, there is a clickable 'button' on the upper right corner of your screen which makes all the houses but yours in the city become transparent. So you see only your ones and can easily click on each of them if you need. Well, it's been done 10 years ago, could be done today. Would be nice actually
  16. I agree, Steave, of course. But I think we should always keep in mind that GH is not Blizzard Entertainment or Electronic Arts etc. For such a small indie company, making such a valid game is quite an achievement. So I tend to turn the Blind Eye when I feel the need to.
  17. I agree. It annoys me to no end all that moaning about 'shoddy', 'outdated' graphics of the game. I am old enough to remember the '3D revolution' back in the 90's when everyone and his dog tried to churn out a 3D game, no matter if the gameplay was junk, the only thing that was 'selling' was that the game supported 3D graphics. The time of the 3Dfx Diamond Monster Voodoo graphic card. It was a mess. Gameplay, content and immersion were not important. The global quality of video games took a dive then. I am fully aware that the X-com franchise has a very limited target 'niche'. Not everyone loves the genre. The ones (we) that do, cannot be fooled with eyecandy galore, we want immersion, lore and the old X-com feel and playstyle. Xenonauts got it all. No fuss. On my end, I would be eternally grateful if someone could 'remaster' the old X-com, with better (2D) graphics, higher resolutions and a bit improved UI. Attempts were made, none was satisfactory IMO. Then I discovered Xenonauts. After a couple weeks of playng, I can say I am content. The graphics are nice, clear, the UI too. Yes, there is still room for improvement, but we finally got a decent X-com successor. It has a pair of big boots to fill, but it is doing great, in my opinion. The moddability and open, tinker-able .xml files is another boon. I DO like games with gorgeous graphics, but gameplay and immersion is always paramount to me.
  18. FYI my spec: Core2 Duo 6600 @ 2.45Ghz Windows XP Pro with 4 GB RAM (means 3.25GB for XP Pro) Graphics: Nvidia GTX 275. Runs like a charm, like all 2D games. Battlescape loading time is good, maybe a bit longer for those beautiful Skitso's maps Alien/NPC turn is fast enough (up to landing ships and base defense, don't know about Battleship attack, not yet there). My first game was UFO: Enemy Unknown, on Commodore Amiga 500. I was a hreavy smoker back then, and that was a curse and a blessing: alien turns took 10 minutes to finish, one cigarette. My gaming session would end with a pile of stubs in the ashtray and me heavily intoxicated by nicotine and caffeine If you are in the X-COM lore, buy it! This one revamp is different, it's not just full eyes and empty soul revamp.
  19. The current version is V1.09 I think. I got the game from GOG about 10 days ago, version 1.07. Still unpatched to 1.09 until I'm sure what the new patch does. Aside a couple quirks and a CTD here and there, the game runs OK. Not OK enough for ironman, mind you, but OK.
  20. Noone can buy an UFO. Else, it would become MOFO: My Own Flying Object! Sorry for the (intended) pun!
  21. Haha, this is so cool, the names. My name is Buligo.I like machine guns. Ha, this will be fun, the role-playing. What is the meaning of playing "Blind"? means you never played the game before and you are going headlong into it? Have fun.
  22. Neither can I, but then, I do have -4 miopia
  23. "Rotating' a 2D map does not rotate anything, it simply redraws the whole map again with new sprites/props/tiles. No models with triangles, just pictures. And there is only one set of those.
  24. Or Skitso's improved stumps Well, SimCity 4 had all that, rotations and zooms, but they did not need kickstarter to do it
