dropbear
More of an annoyance but since the reaction fire happens one soldier at a time anyway, it might be a good idea to stop if the alien is already dead.
Tascruel
Gotta agree with dropbear. Currently it is just bit useless to save any TU to reactionfire. Always better than nothing ofcource! I hope you guys have some time to twiddle with the reactionfire before releasing the game. I assume this is not top of to-do list. And also is at the todo list already? One suggestion I had in mind, would be that we could have option to take, or not take the reactionfire shot. Example: 10s time to make choice or game goes further. (options like: Fire / Skip) Also I was thinking, that you could get "new changes" to take shot, if reaction fire %change works in your favor as opponent moves. Could be "risky" but then again would make reaction fire much more usefull. Just an idea
StellarRat
Yeah, that ones been around for a while. Of course, it is fairly realistic, but not player friendly.
dropbear
Since we're suggesting changes to the reaction fire mechanic anyway, I always liked the way Jagged Alliance 2 (1.13) dealt with it. Basically if you get an interrupt a player turn is inserted (and vice versa for enemies). This allows to decide weather you want to take the shot or not, which would also nicely solve the death-by-friendly-fire-because-an-alien-walked-around-the-corner issue. Depending on what the code looks like this might of course be too drastically a change, but maybe not. One thing to note is, that if you go down that road, give the player some way to disable reactionfire if below a certain number of TUs. Otherwise you'll get spammed with interrupts you can't do anything in Anyway wrong forum for suggestions i guess, so I'll stop now.
StellarRat
That would be a good option. Laser Squad worked the same way too. (If you're old enough to remember that game. It was the forerunner to XCom.)
dropbear
Altough technically old enough, i don't remember playing that one. Then again my memory is kind of bad, I barely remember X-Com. Anyway slightly off topic here.
Matthew
I reported this issue earlier, here is the reply I got: (0000886) Chris (administrator) - 2013-11-04 08:37 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This is intentional, as reaction fire is meant to occur simultaneously but we can't focus the camera on all the units simultaneously. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- (0000887) Chris (administrator) - 2013-11-04 08:43 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Intended. dropbear
Ah well, thanks for the clarification anyways.
vaultdweller
Well then, I guess we'll need to spam the feedback forums about that instead, because it is a seriously annoying design decision.
