svidangel
SEE BELOW, ROCKETS SEEM TO BE BROKEN FOR ME. First ground combat crashed when I hit the OK after viewing soldier stat changes. After I reloaded the combat completed successfully. Second ground combat went fine. Third ground combat I have not been able to finish, each time I reload, the game crashes to desktop with a standard windows error message. All three were vs sebillians in a light scout, desert type map. Two other visual things: Reloading into those games, I noticed all ground damage was repaired upon reloading. Props and stuff were still half/totally destroyed, but any dots/burn marks from explosions were wiped away. Also when I hold both a med-kit and a pistol, my soldier literally spits bullets. Looks amusing. Edited June 14, 2013 by svidangel
svidangel
Aborting the mission near the end still causes the crash. Reloading the game from the Autosave does allow me to abort the mission successfully, so something that happened during the mission is causing the crash. Attempting to load a game any time after ending the mission would crash the game, crashes the game. Wow, I think I found it. Firing the rocket launcher seems to be causing the corruption. Running around and gaining TUs/STR didn't cause a problem. Shooting a sebillian with a rifle didn't cause a problem. Shooting a rocket and hitting a sebillian caused it to crash when aborting mission. Shooting a rocket into the ground caused it to crash when aborting mission. svidangel
Here's the save file in case they aren't causing this problem for other people. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7fhe800pnbzyo9w/2013-06-13_22.46.23.sav
Lamb Chop
I can confirm this bug. But with stun grenades... Flash bangs works fine. If you use a stun grenade, game crashes after mission.
svidangel
Damn, must be something else too, maybe regular grenades. Just had it happen in a mission with no stuns and no rockets.

Shooting a rocket into the ground caused it to crash when aborting mission. Nice find! I was consistently getting crashes until I read your post and did the first mission with no rocket launchers. I used rifles and machine guns, finished the mission, no crash. I haven't tried using frag grenades yet, but a flashbang was used during the mission and it didn't trigger the crash at the end. I thought the crash might be from "damaging" aliens killed from crashing (a damage number appears over the corpse if it takes splash damage), but I guess not! I guess the bug's related to the range fix for explosions, then. Makes sense.
svidangel
Yep, regular grenade. BOOM, ctd upon aborting.

Aaron
Ok, this crash is related to smoke - it will occur any time you end a combat mission while some smoke is present on the battlefield. It will probably have to wait for a fix from Sergey.
svidangel
Is there a file where we can edit out smoke? >.>
Ol' Stinky
Is there a file where we can edit out smoke? >.> Go to your xeno dir, then into assets and look for "weapons_gc.xml". Open it with a text editor. Search for fireChance and smokeChance, which are mostly among the various rockets and grenades. On the alien weapons side of things, make sure you change AlienPlasmaCaster and heavydronecannon which have a chance to cause smoke.
Xierg
Crash site 3 - Every game (I have 6) now results in a CTD. Never used any sort of rockets, grenades etc and I applied the fix for that anyway that was published. This bug seems to occur when I save during combat, somehow that makes all my other saves (including geoscape saves) result in a CTD whenever I try and load them. Xierg
Managed to load a savegame, start of a ground map. Either saving or completing the map via winning or losing ends in a crash. Appa
So I've done some playing around with the XML files and generally testing out how to get a workaround for this issue. It seems that as long as smoke dissipates before the end of the map, the game should return to the Geoscape. This is a big issue for missions where the UFO is on fire (from major/severe damage). As posted above, you can turn off smoke creation for the weapons but I found the best way to deal with this issue was to edit the gas_gc file. I changed all the values for dissipate chance to 75, except for PowerCoresSmoke (burning ufo smoke) which I changed to 95 (since there's usually tonnes of it). I also usually spend a few turns after a burning UFO has extinguished just to make sure all the smoke is gone (have everyone go outside). Hopefully this helps you guys get around this issue.
