Ardheim
Just a thing one might research to make the alien plasma pistol more accurate early on. Would make it heavier, more accurate, give it lengthier reloads and take up as much space as a primary.
Sathra
You can't equip alien plasma pistols as a default weapon (can only pick it up during combat), so why would this be useful?
thothkins
Yeah, why would you want to use it, then keep it and improve on it. Clearly madness. Autosell it immediately.

thothkins
just trying to toe the party line... but still not quite getting it.
lightgemini
No point in this, but actually adding a plasma carbine to the aliens seems good.
jazzglands
You're not supposed to be able to effectively use the alien weapons. They mention this in the xenopedia entry for the alien pistol. You eventually research ways to manufacture plasma weapons that humans can accurately fire. This solves the pacing problem in original X-COM where you could get access to really effective plasma weapons in the first month or so of the game. Yes it would be more convenient to get really accurate plasma weapons right out of the gate, but it would also be convenient to have a "win mission" button. Neither ideas are good game design. thothkins
that was the crux of that thread. Effectiveness and availability along with game balance. It wasn't convenience.
