  1. Over in a thread discussing Jackal armour, StellarRat said:- that got me thinking, what were the most challenging missions for everyone else. For me there was a big jump in alien numbers from 7-8 to 21 in my first Alien Base defence in 19/4. Not just the numbers but the alien rank increased by a couple of steps as well. As I'm using ballistic weapons, even the grenadiers were stretched at the time. I'm fairly sure that if the aliens had been slightly more aggressive, I'd have been overrun.
  2. I had my first base attack... ON CHRISTMAS DAY! it was like 3:43 A.M.! imagine being woken up on Christmas day expecting coffee and cookies and you find out your commander(poor guy... he died) is waking you up because a horde of androns and wraiths is sitting in general storage shooting everything that moves!(thank god for wolf armour, btw I finally got alenium[see we need more alenium thread].
  3. In essence, post your "epic" moments here; the insane shots, the courageous charges that end with success with nary a scratch laid upon the hero, etc. So, I'll go first. I don't know if this counts as unusual, but it was the first time I tried it and it worked incredibly. So, combat shields. Love 'em. I had two shield bearers crouched in front of the UFO entrance, with two snipers-with-shotguns (I love putting shotguns in my snipers packs too, it makes so much sense now!) sitting behind them, ready to fire over their heads. Except they both missed. So, I had one shield bearer fire off her pistol, and I think one or two shots made the mark. However, the sebillian was still standing. So, as a last ditch effort, my brave other shield bearer ran up and whacked the sebillian with the shield. That's right, I shield bashed a seven foot tall lizard man. It took two hits to kill it, but kill it he did. It was pretty epic. The next most epic thing from today's playthrough was, to be brief, pistol whipping a Caesan to death. It took several hits, since that's all I was doing was melee attacks, but I literally beat him to death with the butt of my pistol. It was pretty epic.
  4. Ssstay back, or the lady getsss it! Don't worry, everyone made it. Well, except for the terrorist -- I MEAN -- alien. (P.S. why are there no strikethrough tags for this forum?!)
  5. Wheee, after the annoyance of having to reassign all my troops to a new base to get in charlie range of an alien base, I was immediately hit by a wave of UFOs right over my original base. I had 3 elite soldiers left with no armor and only a few laser weapons to take on a sebillian Landing ship in late December. Took 3 reloads during the mission, but the 3 took that @#%^ apart. All with heavy scatter laser things and 2 with a laser pistol backup (only had 2 onhand). God pistols are so amazing. So incredibly amazing. Favorite mission so far.
  6. Haven't played Xenonauts for awhile, and now that it's closer to beta, there's one thing I'm wondering. If you've played the latest version, have you had any tense or frightening game moments? One of the best parts of X-Com was the feeling of not knowing what was around the corner. Few games kept me on edge like X-Com, and I'm hoping Xenonauts captures that feeling. Some specific examples: Do you worry the first Xenonaut to leave the chopper will get immediately sniped? Do you fear for the xenonaut that you send into a dark corner, or a downed UFO? And maybe the most important question: Do you actually get mad or upset when one of your best guys die even though you know they're not real, but it seems like it? Oh yeah, and does the music lend to the tension too? Cause that was another thing that added a lot to X-Com.
  7. First mission. Sebillians. One runs out of his ship, spots my dudes. His buddy from inside takes two shots, hits the first guy in the back twice, suppressing him, not killing. Still hilarious. My day is still made. Edit: the dude in the ship ran out and crouched on his buddy's corpse. So he really did shoot his pal in the back and kill him. Double Edit: And then teabagged him.
  8. I'm making this post because I have a few funny stories of stuff that I've done, in frustration, victory or defeat, during a ground combat, and I'm interested to find out if anyone else has any funny anecdotes. Some of my favorites are I have accidentialy thrown my mug through the air spilling the contents, Mmmmm coffee, all over my laptop when my tank shot my five teammates in one go although it was aiming at an alien next to them. Another is i have inadvertently torn up some homework in suspense. So has anyone else got some funny stories? Or am I just an easly scared and annoyed noob ;P
