  1. Magnum Force Click here to download. What is Magnum Force? Magnum Force is a ballistic weapons mod for v21 stable. All the vanilla infantry weapons have been replaced (stats and images) with ballistic weapons of the period, and they have been incorporated into the tech-tree (the updated Xenopedia contains the lore behind these changes). I like hard games, and this mod is no exception. The early game guns are actually more powerful (max 50 damage, to vanilla's 35), but the later weapons lack the raw power of the MAGS (90 compared to 120). There are some new weapon types (revolvers, hence the mod name, sub-machine guns, automatic grenade launchers) and adjustments to existing weapons. An example of this is the assault rifles - they can burst twice per turn. I feel that in vanilla they aren't effective enough, and this change reflects their dominance over other weapons without overpowering them. Ground combat retains the same balance in the respect of TU% for actions, movement, etc. - I like that balance in vanilla, it works. The geoscape features only a couple of changes - starting money is down a bit, and the later dropships have lower capacity...the vanilla mid to end game gets a bit tedious for me, too many soldiers knocking around reduces the difficulty. Here's a picture of the omnipresent Ryan Quinn modelling our new stock weapon range (Josh Eales was not available at the time): He's packing the Browning Auto-5, an AK-47, the pig, a S&W Model 629 , and a shiny block of c4. Installation Download link is at the top of the page (the file is 3.53mb). Make a clean copy of v21, and move the assets folder from the download into the clean copy, replacing the vanilla files. There's also two excel files in the download (vanilla weps and mod), which makes it easy to see the changes which have been made to the weapons. Any questions, feel free to ask. Changelog:
  2. Didn't the OG have a little message pop-up...like "Mikhail Ragulin has fallen unconscious"? I seem to remember something made it easy to tell the difference back then.
  3. It's a risk I'd be willing to take to get my hands on the UFO bounty. Plus, a skilled player would find ways to lessen the chance of death using the weapons already in the game...combat shield, c4, rockets, etc.. It would liven things up a bit; storming the UFO should be the most dangerous things our Xenonauts face on a ground mission...at the moment, it feels like an exploit (and that's coming from someone who's never door-spammed).
  4. At the moment, attacking aliens inside rooms/ufo's is made easy because of this. A better system would be if reaction fire was triggered by a unit appearing in the LOS, instead of the current one (correct me if I'm wrong) of waiting until the unit has performed an action. For example, I can stack eight troops directly outside the nice wide doors of a scout ship, kinda line infantry style. One in the front line chucks a stun grenade in, then it's mop up time, as the aliens can't react because they're stunned. However, if a soldier shoots or moves, it triggers reaction fire and it's my troops who get a seeing to. But if just appearing in the LOS triggered reaction fire, it'd be more realistic...as soon as the door opens, my men would get cut down in a hail of plasma. However, such a system would have drawbacks...i.e. there wouldn't be anything (at the moment) to prevent reaction fire at the start of a turn if an enemy is in LOS, which could be a bit odd.
  5. The stats are somewhat hidden in the battlescape. It bothers me a bit, with them only featuring in the inventory screen. I propose that they should appear by clicking on the soldier portrait. At the moment, that feature is redundant...all it does is show my handsome Xenonauts. I think it would be a good, flavoursome addition to ground combat if there was a dedicated stats section brought up via the portrait.
  6. Here's the situation: Major Pierre Leroy finds himself critically wounded in the face on the andron onslaught. Lacking the TU's to throw c4 at them, he heroically decides to strap it on and rush headlong into the fray. He primes it, setting it to explode after 1 turn. Charging toward the enemy, he comes under heavy reaction fire and is cut down in the doorway, but gains solace in his last moments from the knowledge that he's going to turn the mission in the Xenonaut's favour. Alas, 'twas all in vain, as the c4 failed to detonate. I assume this is a bug, as... 1. If he'd have thrown it, it would of exploded at the end of the alien turn. 2. If he'd have kept hold of it, it would have exploded at the end of the alien turn. 1 & 2 show that if it's primed, it's gonna blow. But throw a death in there, and it doesn't.
  7. I'm a filthy tanker. I roll with one rocket-turretted hunter, and six supporting troops. The tank (I use that term loosely, as it's not a tank, but I treat it as one) leads the way, doing the bulk of the killing until it's time to breach. The soldiers pick off any stragglers that escape my rocket tank of doom. I use 2 heavy weapons troops, equipped with the LMG and a shotgun in their satchels. The other four fine folk carry assault rifles, and also pack a one-shot rocket launcher with a side serving of c4. Although I will probably swap the secondary weapons around, as four shotguns is far better for breaching.
  8. The health of this dude is listed as 55 out of 53. I was performing a BOGOF in the dropship. First mission, this guy got wounded. We head to a second crash site without stopping off at the base, so I was expecting him to have lower health....but something's gone amiss here.
  9. Seen this a couple of times now. Dirty little alien has spawned into a hay bale. Nothing that a grenade and some shotgun lovin' couldn't cure. Saw one spawn into the other type of hay bale on another farm, a square bale like the one my guy is hiding behind at the top of the screen.
  10. There seemed to be a lot of Ragulin's in the OG...same for Astrov's and Tatyana's too. And Mutons! It's Lancaster UK. Only 3000ish miles. And this game is looking the part indeed.
  11. I am Mikhail Ragulin. Or rather, I am not. I actually am Jon. Ragulin was a soldier of mine back in UFO: Enemy Unknown, all them years ago. He was with me from very early on in the game, and took part in roughly 120 missions, collecting over 150 alien scalps. He died on the final Missions to Mars (in fact, he probably died a few times, but being a kid, I brought him back to life by the power of the reload). His name has stuck with me all this time, perhaps a sign that he would get the chance to kill again in a future re-make. So, UFO was the first game that stole vast swathes of my youth. I missed out on TFTD (it just looked like UFO to me, but with added blue). I loved apoc, but it was a bit easy. And, for me, the new remake of UFO looked nice, but lacked spirit. I'm also a filthy modder. I released a couple of mods for Hearts of Iron 3, but gave up a couple of years back. Anyhow, Xenonauts is downloading now (albeit a trifle slowly), and I'll soon be scalping me some aliens. Or, hopefully, crying in terror as they slaughter my boys...
