  1. True. Parts of southern United States are considered "central america" by the game. Although I know some Texans who would vehemently disagree.
  2. Diamond tipped, as in serrated diamond edging of the claw specifically evolved to cut through armors. Also, you can't "break" a diamond like how you are implying. It is the hardest substance that we know of. The only thing you can do is shatter it along a cleavage plane, (a plane of imperfection in the material), cut it with another diamond, use specialized lasers, or erode it with chemicals. Stop posting false information. Pure diamonds (those without micro imperfections) can only be broken with other diamonds, or specialized machines. The chassis was fiberglass, that is not the impressive part. It took the engine block, (a half a ton of solid steel) ripped it straight out of the truck (connected to the truck by steel parts) and tossed it away like it was a toy. That is just a regular grizzly bear, not a genetically engineered killing machine. In general, yes. But not always, spider silk is an excellent example. This is the 41st milennium, anything is possible. In this universe, there are quasi-deity entities that exist in a realm of pure thought where time and space have no meaning, some humans have psychic powers, and there is a race of warlike sentient fungi that make their technology work through the power of positive thinking. But you really want to say that something evolving diamond tipped claws is "unrealistic"? Genestealers are quite capable of ripping straight through the armor itself, they don't have to go for the joints. This is backed up by the lore in numerous places, and I've tried to give an accurate description of the pseudoscience that justifies it. It really isn't a stretch considering some of the other stuff in warhammer 40k. Terminator armor doesn't make you invincible. In one of the horus heresy books, a traitor terminator remarked that even something as weak as a lasgun could punch through a joint or a weak spot. For reference, lasguns have comparable damage output to a modern day assault rifle (see Dan Abnett's and Sandy Mitchell's works). Hell in one of the Ciaphas Cain novels, a few gaunts messed up a suit of tactical armor to the point where it needed repairs before it could be used again.
  3. As a fan of warhammer 40k, I have to disagree. I remember reading somewhere that genestealer claws are diamond tipped. Besides that, I think you are underestimating the power of bones/claws and "natural weapons". One of my buddies is a park ranger, and he said he saw the aftermath of a grizzly bear attack on a truck. The thing ripped the entire engine block right out of the chassis. Now imagine a 10 foot tall, four armed, organic killing machine equipped with diamond tipped claws, that is probably 3-5 times as strong as even a genetically enhanced space marine, and has thousands of years of directed evolution behind it to breed it for killing humans. Does it sound so far fetched that they can claw their way through a few inches of adamantium? I'm not saying they will rip through terminator armor like tissue paper, but come on... No tyranid bias either, I'm a guard player. The only thing a guardsman needs to hunt genestealers is his regulation flashlight, his cardboard box *cough* flak armor, his uplifting primer, and his standard-issue wheelbarrow to cart around his enormous brass balls. HERESY! *BLAM* Err, wait... am I allowed to *BLAM* a commissar?
  4. I always bring a vehicle to night missions. The headlights are invaluable.
  5. That is because I am old you whippersnapper. At least compared to a lot of people here. I know StellarRat is older than me though.
  6. Probably an oversight, but you can explain it away by saying he was "medivaced" out at the end of the mission by another chopper.
  7. Yes. If you want to know my name has some history behind it. Before I enlisted, in my youthful days as a high school student my main game was CS 1.6. I would play it constantly, and my favorite character model was the "elite crew" terrorist skin. Then the few years where 1337 was being a "thing" on the internet happened. And... well I was 1337 before it was cool.
  8. Right, because pointing out that... "But you have stat counters that don't even work, mismapped keys, broken scrollbars, a main menu that doesn't display properly for half of the people that bought the game, a good amount of misaligned specters, and many more issues that are extremely noticeable or could potentially ruin an ironman playthrough." Makes me a troll. Your logic is inarguable. Goldhawk defense force go! I'm not suggesting ignoring the gamebreakers to focus on the minutiae, but can't you fix both at once? The specter fixes shouldn't take long at all, and there are a lot of community patches for them that would take very little time to evaluate, and integrate. And how long does it take to fix a broken scrollbar? Are you saying that spending time fixing it would seriously impede your ability to tackle the showstoppers? Forgive my ignorance if this is not the case, but it appears as if you are ignoring easily fixable issues because they are too "minor" for you to bother with. Understood. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, could give us a list of which bugs would require too much effort/time/money to fix and thus will not be fixed in the final version. I'm not trying to be facetious here, a list would go a long way to get people to shut up (myself included) about certain issues that will never be addressed. You don't need to be patronizing. I get that I am one of the more vocal critics here, but some of these bugs were reported MONTHS ago. "Extremely noticeable" is a matter of opinion yes, but please, go ahead and try explaining to the guy who lost his best soldier to a misaligned specter on an ironman run that the issue is "minor". I'm glad that you are at least willing to integrate some community bugfixes. Looking forward to it.
  9. Chris said 40 ground missions was the average he wanted for a playthrough. Airstriking is supposed to give less money/materials then doing the ground combat. That is only fair because you are taking risks with ground combat of losing soldiers, or even wiping a squad and losing all of their equipment. The trick is though, that airstrikes need to provide enough relative to ground combat that most players say "yea i'll just airstrike that one" without feeling like they are gimping themselves moneywise. If I get 30,000$ + materials for doing a scout mission, and the airstrike gives me 20,000$... I'm honestly not to chuffed about losing 10,000$ because it saves me a half an hour of real-life time. Think about it. Yes you get more money for doing GC constantly, but is spending that much time really worth half a suit of jackal? There will always be OCD players that feel the need to do every ground mission for the "optimal" playthrough. Trying to incentivize the hardcore min-maxers to not be hardcore min-maxers through game balance is not going to work.
  10. Again, I realize budgeting is a concern and that you have limited resources. I also realize nothing is ever perfect, nor do I expect there to be 0 bugs in the finished product. But you have stat counters that don't even work, mismapped keys, broken scrollbars, a main menu that doesn't display properly for half of the people that bought the game, a good amount of misaligned specters, and many more issues that are extremely noticeable or could potentially ruin an ironman playthrough. Why can you not fix some of these little things while you are fixing the big gamebreakers? Your people are already tinkering with the code. Or hell, why not integrate some of the community bugfix patches if you really don't want to put the work into it, like the one kabill linked.
  11. There are still tons of little bugs in the game. Nothing gamebreaking on my most current playthrough, but lots of little annoyances that lead to good men getting killed. Props not acting like cover when they should (I'm looking at you intact window frames), aliens still teleporting through doors occasionally, multi-story shenanigans of every description etc... Then there is the minor but still very noticeable bugs that just plain irritate me. The main menu bug (still not fixed), the barracks scrollbar bug (still not fixed), C4 not registering as kills, vehicles not registering kills or missions, vehicles respawning at the end of missions, various ammo bugs when a team is sent on missions, typos in the xenopedia etc... I've been saying since the beginning of may that a may 30th release date was not realistic if they wanted to quash all of the bugs, and that an additional month of polishing was necessary. This was the response... Behold, here we are one month and 7 "release" versions later and the game just barely is free of gamebreaking bugs and is still riddled with minor ones. I understand that budgeting is a concern, but please can you fix some of the little bugs while you are fixing the gamebreaking ones? Some of them really destroy the immersion.
  12. Good catch. Missing armor and weapons has been a bug reported for a long time, if this is truly what is causing it...
  13. Perhaps graphic load times due to low amounts of v-ram? If the cause is as you say, the loading "times out" after a certain point, maybe slower videocards cannot load the information fast enough.
  14. I have been sick recently. Returned to the game to play 1.06 to see how things were coming. First mission a landed UFO. I had cleared the area and had my men moving up to secure the UFO. I had a machinegunner and a rifleman watching the door with full TUs. Alien suddenly pops up outside the UFO door, no open door and no reaction fire. He splashes my machinegunner. I thought this problem was supposed to be fixed a while ago?
  15. Known bug. They said they were working on fixing it but that was quite a few patches ago. I would too like to know if this will be fixed in the release version.
  16. Are the main menu bugs, and the broken scrollbar on the barracks screen still being looked at?
  17. This is intended. The engine doesn't really support "falling" behavior.
  18. Sorry, but this is pretty serious for me. Newbies are going to be using these props for cover thinking it protects their troops. I certainly did and I have been playing this game for over a year. How does a window frame, or wall with a window NOT provide cover when intact, and yet provides 50% cover when broken? That is completely illogical and counter-intuitive. I have been losing troops like crazy, thinking "wow, those caesans are good shots", when all this time all the stuff I have been using as cover has not really been cover at all. Correction, it is only cover "sometimes". If you can't fix it, you can't fix it. But please put something in the quickguide or loading screen that explains this mechanic.
  19. Alt+printscreen, and ctrl+V into an open paint file. Or use a third party program like fraps, or press f12 and capture with steam. Are you running any mods?
  20. Another big problem, putting it in the same thread because it is a similar issue. Apparently intact windowframes do not provide any cover, but broken ones do. Confirmed for all the windows I tested in the industrial tileset. This one definitely needs fixed.
  21. This is the same problem with medkits. I've already reported it here: http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/10437-v1-03-Ground-Combat-Switching-to-medkit-reserved-TUs Please post comments in that thread to bring attention to the issue.
  22. No, all relations boosts are from shootdowns.
