  2. Okay, not such a big deal then. I was under the impression spawn logic had been implemented to a large extent. There were some videos I watched of earlier builds where aliens were seemingly more prevalent across the map.

  6. Hi Matthew, Please see my response to Gorlom just above. I believe additional classification features could be added in a non-invasive fashion. Let me know if you think this would help. Apologies if this isn't the best channel for offering development support - I looked for a link on the site but didn't find one.
  7. This is a good point. However some support for bug reporting could be added to the forums to help alleviate this issue. Custom thread fields are simple to add to vBulletin. So when submitting to the Bug Report forum users could select things like build version, affected gameplay system, etc from a drop-down listbox. Sorry for the vagueness, but it was intentional as I don't know the exact nature of the development needs and constraints you guys are working with. As for classification as I mentioned above you could just add additional fields to the vbulletin database and drop-lists (or similar) to the interface for the Bug Reporting thread. Then, if the development team wanted to, they could perform specific queries on the forum database to get information about the nature and quantity of various bugs and bug types, but most importantly this could ease integration into the internal bug tracking system and make triage (determining severity, owner, dupe checking, etc) easier, making testers live's easier This would take a little bit of coding to get done, and I would be more than happy to help. If I am still not making sense I could do a mock up of what I am talking about so you could demo it for yourself.
  8. Hello NastyNative, I would encourage you to at least check out the latest developments over the past year. I only started playing yesterday, having no knowledge of the game prior to about 2 weeks ago, and I am able to have fun playing. The most important thing for me was that the mechanics are in such a state that when I am playing, it feels like XCOM. For me this means the developers have been on the right track from the start, and are unlikely to deviate at this point. It may not be ready for your liking yet, but I have faith it will when it is complete - provided you enjoy XCOM, at least.
  9. UPDATE: Known issue related to spawn code and AI logic. Currently under development as per Chris This is originally reported here, I think. Context: Aliens appear to only spawn inside a downed ship, and will not move out of the ship until the player is within sight, typically at normal LOS range. During my first game that I created, ocassionally aliens would render with only a shadow blob when (seemingly) spawned outside of the ship. On one a civilian was seemingly treated as an alien by the game logic, it moved as if in combat and did not attack, and the mission didn't end until I killed it. Repro: May happen after starting first game after install. Start a ground combat mission, notice that no aliens appear outside of the ship, no aliens appear to attempt engagement prior to alerting them by approaching the downed craft. Additionally, keep an eye out for aliens rendering only their shadow blob or civilian being treated by game logic as actual aliens (in my case they were unable to attack, presumably due to being unarmed).

  12. Hm, I have had one incident where civilians were actually Aliens. I wasn't sure if this was by design though. I recently started a new game today and have experienced you issue the whole time. It is very frustrating because the entire level is a waste. You just march your squad into place and then fire away. I could actually complete every mission at this point with a shot or two from my tank. If this happens most of the time, it totally ruins the game after about an hour or less, depending on the frequency of crash sites.
  13. In addition, I wouldn't suspect that standard or premium supporters are regular customers at all. Rather, it would be my assumption that these people, at least most of the ones that participate in the forums anyway, are willing to assume some responsibility in the development process, specifically in testing. It is what they paid for after all, minus the supporter bonuses. I suppose an easy way to test this theory would be to request repro steps from the user if they did not provide them - via a dialog box or something - yet they can decline if they want. Then sit back and see if the quantity and/or quality of repro steps increases.
  14. Yeah, I agree. I didn't mean to lean on "required" so hard. I still think there is a certain threshold where requirements can be introduced in order to eliminate reports too vague or unclear to be useful, yet still not deter someone from submitting an acceptable quality report should they feel inclined. I guess the trick is finding this threshold while not deterring the bug reporting process. Though I suspect with an alpha release people will scream loudly enough about the most troublesome/annoying bugs without fail, or a bug reporting thread/system at all!

  17. Resolved: Use by default mousewheel-up/down and click-drag map to unobscure target. Additionally if not using 3-button mouse, ensure "zoom in" is bound in geoscape view (mine was not by default). Context: When attempting to re-route squadron to a new target, if that target is located where a GUI widget would be displayed, it can be become obscured by the widget rendering it impossible to select. Repro: While your squadron is intercepting a target re-route the squadron to a target that is directly above finland, where the "Intercept" drop-down appears. Note that it is impossible to select the target due to the "Select Target Location" dialog obscuring the target.   18. For me, this happens with all buildings, along with a range of other intermittent and varied issues. It does seem to be related to LOS in all cases though. I am doing some more testing and working on a more detailed report.
  19. Interesting, I have noticed a bug on 17.52 where aliens that spawn outside of the ship occasionally only render their shadow blobs causing them to appear invisible. When I post this one I will link to yours as possibly related.
  20. Context: Everytime I complete a ground combat mission selecting the Bases, Research, Workshop, and Xenopedia tabs does nothing. Only selecting the lower tab "Intercept" seems to cause them to become active again, displaying the associated screen. Repro: Go to a crash site and begin a ground combat mission. After completing the mission and returning to the Geoscape screen, notice that selecting the "Bases", "Research", "Workshop", and "Xenopedia" tabs has no effect.   21. Hi, I would like to propose the following: 1. As a requirement for bug posting, system information generating using a standard tool, something like dxdiag or whatever makes sense for the platform and project. 2. Optional documented classification for flagging hardware related systems, audio/video etc. Hardware information supplied by a supported tool could allow developers to leverage a class of regular expressions, or similar, to automate extraction of information relevant to a bug report in an unambiguous fashion. This can be useful in many ways, for example notifying a reporter that a specific bug is due to a known driver incompatibility on their system, potential dupe warning, triage, and other cool stuff. In general though, strictly following standards, allows for more automation and thus faster development. Just some ideas! Thanks, gfulton

Approximatley 10 units away and facing south, a reptile alien type fired a shot at the tank. The shot hit the tank, the tank explosion animation appeared to complete playing correctly, and the game crashed to the desktop.
