  1. As we use numbers to select the soldiers, the currently chosen number should be visually emphasized in whatever way. /me thinks
  2. Well what I meant (but didn't write) is, it crashes on loading any saved game, no matter if it's from old versions or if its been saved by version 17.5. I reported to the bug forum.
  3. Hi, Xenonauts crashes to desktop, after I threw a greenade. Unfortunately, after Xenonauts restart, I cannot reproduce it. Win7x64 Michael
  4. Hi, when I choose a unit member, e.g. no. 5: The soldier gets chosen and the small triangle appears above him. But didn't the numbers 1-8 get highlighted in prior versions? Now they don't. Michael
  5. Hi, I've downloaded v. 17.5 completely from Desura, the >4GB version. Unpacked it to a new directory without problems. a) My PC with a core i7, 8 GB RAM, GTX-570, Win7x64: After starting xenonauts.exe the window with the choices appears. I click "Full game" and the Xenonauts-process is gone. EDIT: Resolved. After I tried to start Xenonauts via a remote desktop connection, Xenonauts had no resulution set in it's options screen and therefore did not start. b) On my Lenovo W500 notebook (also Win7x64) Xenonauts starts normally, but when I load a savegame, even if it has been created by version 17.5, it crashes immediately after I click on "Resume operations". EDIT: b) happens on both computers.
  6. Thx Khall, pls put the text in CODE-Tags. Questions/comments: I dowanloaded the 4 GB standalone. Deleted the old Xenonauts directory and extracted to a new dir. a) Is it supposed not to be savegame compatible? Mine crashes, if I try to load old saves from the last version. EDIT: IT'S WORSE. IT'S TERRIBLE. IT CRASHES ANY TIME I LOAD A SAVED GAME (After click on "resume operation") b) Why is the Geoscape UI (the Earth map window) still the old one? All others use the new style with the buttons in the center. c) I've seen citizens kinda teleporting from one place to another.
  7. *refreshing http://www.desura.com/games/xenonauts/download every 0.0001 seconds* ...wait... it's holidays... ugh! I guess it won't be available soon but I hope
  8. I must say I like the darkness of the older one. Darkness in dark times, it fits better. The new one is too colorful for me. I'd like to see the new Geoscape more dark, without that blue, and without that computer desk guys to the bottom left and right.
  9. Are you from Germany? A widespread opinion here is, indians are hired because they are cheap. They are said to have not too great education, but for (financial) tactical reasons companies here say there are no german experts ("Fachkräftemangel") in order to have a constant flow of cheap foreigners. I don't know about the qualification of indian experts. What I think is, they cannot have that many super duper experienced guys who started computing with Commodore C64 etc... With a smiley or without?
  10. We simply cannot know how busy/lazy Chris is What I know from software developing (well, my experience is developing of Perl modules for something) and also from what I feel about this project - I think he is very busy - AND delays are just normal. I'm pretty confident to see a good and playable Xenonauts in 2013. Currently it has too many crashes.
  11. Ah thanks, didn't recognize it because I'm on a notebook (so I'll have to use that red knob and middle mouse button on my Thinkpad).
  12. Hi, I don't see it. Is there a hotkey for selecting the next (previous) soldier? Instead of mouse clicking or typing different number keys I'd like to simply use one key which would make selecting soldiers/vehicle more reliable for me. TIA
  13. Chris will already be sexy, wealthy or even super rich at 1.0.0 release time, so probably there's no need for DLC sales
  14. OK thanks for your reply, no, nothing happens with those keys. I tried a lot keys, maybe this is due to notebook keyboard limitations? So what, if it's clickable in UI its fine.
  15. Bought it. So many good games these days!
  16. I have to ask this, because I didn't find out how I can flip the rectangle for facility building in 90 degrees - what's the hotkey? TIA.
  17. From what I heard[1] (as a non veteran) the Gollops XCOM sequels got worse, so not necessarily a Gollop remake would have been great per se. Götzendämmerung! [1] Stay4ever german podcast about XCOM. http://www.stayforever.de/2012/02/folge-8-x-com/ A simple OT question, maybe someone may answer it, don't wanna open a new thread for this: I didn't find out how I can flip the rectangle for facility building in 90 degrees - what's the hotkey? TIA.
  18. Yesterday I was just thinking the same "This music is excellent". There's geomusic2.ogg, which is brilliant, as an IDM veteran I think all those Autechre etc. lovers would like it. It's the darkness of the music, that fits with the game very well. Will there be more ingame music, e.g. for Geoscape? I was thinking also about a concept like the Software Soundsense, which is designed for Dwarf Fortress, but in theory would work with other software as well. That way you can have it play whatever music files you wish. DF writes game events permanently to a logfile. You tell Soundsense where the logfile resides and it monitors it. At every new event it reacts and plays sound. Parsing is per Regex templates, and it plays music with a probablity system. I hate this "rich patron gets his toes licked" side of Kickstarter. Yeah I know, that's the way it works.
  19. Startup movies are annoying as hell, but you can turn them off. Currently I cannot look where exactly, but you can delete the respective entries from one of the config files which are in "DOCUMENTSFOLDER\My Games\XCOM..."[1] maybe search for "nvidia" or "movie"- not sure. Then XCOM:EU starts up just lightning fast (if additionally on ssd of course ). [1] WHY THE HELL DO GAME DEVELOPERS SPAM MY DOCUMENTS FOLDER? WHY THE HELL DON'T THEY JUST USE %APPDATA%? IT SUCKS SOOOO MUCH.
  20. Also new here! Hello! 40 year old gamer with no previous XCOM experience, but turn based RPG. Also FPS and others. Dwarf Fortress a lot. I enjoy the Firaxis game as well as the Xenonauts game.
  21. I don't see the point in the XCOM:EU debate. It's a different game for me, and it's an enjoyable game. They should have taken more of the Geoscape thing out... Especially the stupid aircraft fight, where there was no user interaction left except pressing OK two times. I enjoy the game for its tactical combat, as well as I enjoy Xenonauts for more management, as well as I enjoy Dwarf Fortress as well as I enjoy FPS like Arma Multiplayer and player killing as well as I enjoy Japanese Go as well as I enjoy... Why do you always bash different games? I think today we are in the great position of having thousands of fantastic games. But if you ask the internet communities, all games except the one they currently love are garbage. "Badminton is crap, because it has no Chelyabinsk Variation of the Sicilian Defence"?
  22. How does the forum software know about your heroism -> ?
  23. Hi guys, I'm a n00b at XCOM. I usually play RPGs, but also shooters, e.g. Arma series. Personally I hate the debate saying that FPS are braindead software for braindead players. I bought XCOM:EU by Firaxis and enjoyed the tactical map a lot. I like the turn based concept very much. I was aware that the Geoscape has been drastically "streamlined" but so what. For me it was a new and good game. I wasn't missing anything the same like I won't miss a Geoscape in Call of Duty You know what I mean. XCOM:EU brought me to original XCOM and then I heard about Xenonauts. I must say I enjoy it as well. A different game for me, with a very specific mood. And well done except I don't like the comic like soldies. They're kind of flat and 2D, whereas vehicles are painted 3D - inconsistence here. But thats just a minor thing, all in all it's just great fun. Even though I must say I'm beginning to lose my first game in Ironman/normal. "Ironman" which is both in Firaxis and Xenonauts: I must say it's a great option, because later you have no chance to save or return to old saves (except maybe if you manage saves on file system level). Otherwise I know myself, I couldn't resist to load old saves... I wish more games had it... All in all I think gamers often think too black/white. I can enjoy everyting: Just killing players in Multiplayer FPS, or doing micromanagement in Dwarf Fortress, or play chess, or play COD,... just depends on my mood. I am an ENEMY of terms like "COD Kids" etc... It's too over simplistic. I think nowadays we are in a great position of having millions of gorgeous games! And no, old games weren't better per se. Thanks for your time and thanks for Xeno devs for doing a great job! Michael
