Crepehanger

I had a couple of invisible civilians on a farm mission today, including one that was up against a hedge so I couldn't even see the shadow. I started throwing grenades at that spot and I was finally able to find him when he became suppressed.

Finished mission 2, farm map. The geoscape screen came up with all the various icons like radar range, the mouse cursor and my Chinook, but not the world map. The screen said "Loading Geoscape..." in the middle. Time was still ticking away and I could change speed, but the icon of my Chinook was not moving. After waiting for maybe three minutes for something to happen, I clicked on the Bases tab, which caused it to crash to desktop. 17.51

I can run the executable file, but it's v16 rather than the current build. I admit I have not read all nine pages of the sticky thread, but I have been to the download page. I can download v16.1 only if I put it in my shopping cart and pay the $20. I guess I can uninstall the whole game and re-download using Desura, which should avoid the update process that fails. I was hoping I could be lazy and Desura would identify the problem in their updater, but it seems increasingly unlikely to happen....

I was able to update to v16 (Windows) with no trouble, but Desura fails to update to v16.1 and then refuses to play without the update. Until something changes, I seem to be locked out of the game. There is a 16.1 file on the zipped download page, but there seems to be no way to get it without being billed $19.95.

I didn't see this in the master bug list. I have not attempted to reproduce it yet. I started a new game and placed my initial base very near Cairo. Instead of simply placing the base, I got a selection screen that asked me to choose Cairo or Tel Aviv. I selected Cairo, which caused a screen to come up indicating that the war against the alien invaders had been lost and I'd lost the game. Then I was dropped out to the main screen. I selected Start New Game and then I found myself back on the Geoscape, choosing a name for that base near Cairo.
