  1. Having now done base defences, apart from a few bugs I have to say the way it's done is bloody damn good. Obviously would like the blasted wraith to be a bit less teleport happy but no doubt that's what everyone thinks. While not directly-related but everyone will know what I mean ... can the hospital do a better job please? Hate having to waste time setting up 'healing sessions' at the beginning of a ground mission/base attack/defence.
  2. Just a quickie; can't see it posted elsewhere when searched for. Like many I have a manufacturing base and have to transfer stuff to it. One item at a time. 5000 Alien Alloys etc is tiresome. Can this be altered please? Ta.
  3. Think this is a really old one, but can't remember and cant' find. Feb 29th 1980. Went to put a scatter laser on a newb troop in a basic base. CTD'd. Went back and to re-trace steps tried to put a plasma rifle on a better troop in another base. CTD'd.
  4. Yep. Sebellian Carrier. So it's a known 'issue' then.
  5. More a question than anything else. Might be a bug, even. On entering a carrier I find my troops dying to an invisible alien. Doesn't shoot just grunts and presumably chews the crap out of them. Annoying because I've done one carrier so would have hoped to have discovered as a corpse or something if it's in the game. Any views? Ta.
  6. Um. Playing easy level. About to lose S America it seems even though I managed to take out the alien base there (bloody hard it was) and they're already sending out huge craft and bombers that I just can't touch because my research is waaaay behind and cashflow is again non existant. This being a huge part of the game in terms of a prerequisite for competitiveness. In terms of research while I have a Corsair and laser rifles but still have things like the Hunter rocket upgrade to do. Then in Mid December I research the Marauder which from the Xenopedia description appears high end tech and which 1) I'm never going to be able to afford one, let alone all I'll need 3) can't build without huge numbers of technicians but can't get them because of 3) cash and all it entails and build times of units (90 days with 10 technicians for a Marauder) is still a problem when everything else happens so quickly. I've save scummed to keep troops alive, etc to see how this plays out - answer, you still end up too skint to do anything other than maintain and build a little, slowly - so the game still runs away from you too much. I can't even make a choice of air warfare > ground warfare or cover only a smaller area only or well, anything because of the way things are going. I need as much funding as possible, so I need a large area safe because otherwise my funding goes backwards and I lose ground too quickly; even just losing S Am is sending me backwards and because troops heal far too slowly (ignore the bug where you can heal in the next mission for now), I can't even rely on ground missions to pay for operations which is further compounded by the now infrequency of UFO arrivals. So can someone look at how the game progresses again please? I know we're meant to always be behind but as it stands there's no fighting chance even when I'm just reloading ad nauseum just to get preferential outcomes and that's not something I enjoy because if nothing else it's just a big time killer.
  7. Just had this where I tried a reload from the Geoscape. I did have the graphics bug with base layouts not showing up in the little boxes at the top of the base screen which was what me decide to reload along with my inability to cancel a Marauder build because the little cancel button had disappeared and clicking in the right area produced no response.
  8. I shoot down a Corvette and when I return to the geoscape it apparently escapes to space. Made a 2nd base. Put in a Medical centre and transferred troops over from first base. Troops don't heal.
  9. in Steam v 18. Not sure if this has been reported or is just part of the : I can see farther than I should type bug. I have a screenshot if required but don't know how to upload (ulp).
  10. I say freeze cause the game didn't get as far as CTD'g; just left a smelly black box which covered everything on screen bar a small bit at the bottom - i.e. it was the size of the Steam window. I have been playing the same game flipping between using Steam and Desura as I feel like it. Has been stable thus far. Tried to put some armour (Jackal) on a trooper when it happened. I think they weren't actually in Charlie, but can't remember now. Here's the gumpf I got from the windows error report. 11. As above. Was not directly next to a wall, but some squares away. Caesans still pounded wall to get to troops behind it. On the industrial tileset. They also simply tried to shoot their way through the ship once I'd commandeered it.
  12. Had it twice now: with the scout the power core shows up as being above the ufo from outside but not when inside. Came up under both Desura and Steam versions (so 18.3 Hotfix) and whatever it's called under Steam).
  13. Old problem seems to have come back. In one ground mission I found I could only select one of my soldiers by clicking on his portrait/bars rather than him directly.
  14. Yep. I don't bother with night missions and still find it very hard to even get within sight of them. Currently yet to take down more than one Caesan/Seb without losing all my troops (am sending in 8. Taking one out usually accounts for a minimum of two dead/seriously wounded soldiers and do now have basic armour. They still like to shoot at the door of their ship too. Playing 18.51. Have had one case where a wall tile was shot away by one alien and then the other shot through the gap to kill my soldier behind it ... annoying so and so's.
  15. I agree. Given how accurate they are, that they can wipe out a troop before I can even get within sight of them (currently trawling through easy level again as is my way), as soon as they get rifles I can not complete ground missions at all. Kinda just kills the game
  16. True, but when Chris says the game needs balancing by (in part) providing less cash to start off with and the game's economy is ..ed, then it doesn't fill me with joy, rather it leads me to think "I want my money back"! Without sufficient income the game is unplayable. I see no need to try to 'mod' the game: if it needs that, as far as I'm concerned I (or someone) is doing the work of the game maker who hasn't done a good job. Please note, I am testing the game on the easiest setting. I imagine there would be no point in trying to play it at a higher level for me as I do find it sufficiently demanding as it is. I also would not want to only play it on easy: that's just a good way to play it and learn the ropes. Equally, I'm not interested in Iron Man: I'd just like to get from start to finish and minimise losses/casualties along the way while hoping not too many nukes are let off. I can handle crashes and bugs: this isn't even a beta, but if the inherent design of the game is flawed then why should I bother? Currently the game is even harder than TFTD on normal level and that was as far as I went on that game. In the end MC'd everything because otherwise I wasn't going to get anywhere on that. Now I don't mind smarter/harder aliens in ground battles, but when it takes over a week to make armour that gets lost in a flash and costs a ridiculous amount (as well as stupid transfer costs for goods, etc, etc) then it's paramount that people don't die/equipment doesn't get lost (etc, etc - all comes down to finance to a large degree) because otherwise any attempt to chase the aliens is a waste of time. I also don't consider a good game one where I have to try to send my troops forward one square at a time throwing grenades and hoping that it suffices in order for me to find out where the enemy is and then fail to kill it while it can seemingly pick me off at will from far farther than I can see e.g. TFTD because that is simply tedious.
  17. Good! Do we get lots of cash for doing so? I really, really struggle on the financial side of things (and currently I'm not playing without copious reloads ). Oh, and this is on easy level. Best to start at the bottom and work up, methunk.
  18. Will wait to see what these bring. Based on my experience though ... er, can I have my money back? Simply because playing on easy as I do, I'm getting creamed out there as it is and I'd be stuck with having to repeat the first week forever if I were playing properly. So the 'balance' is even more 'unbalanced'.
  19. Are these still the same as before i.e. they disappear on re-loads, can't be raided, lose you money etc? If so, I'll stop now as they've appeared and I can't seem to do much with em. Ta.
  20. Just had this happen again in 17.6. Unsure if it's not in the list of 'to do's', so will mention again just in case it's the problem rearing its head again - i.e. CTD with little box saying "C++ has asked game to terminate in an unusual way".
  21. Had this since about v 15 - if that helps the developers - i.e. must be an old bug.
  22. V 17.6. Win 7. Desura client, not standalone. Transferred a trooper who was wearing the only suit of wolf armour I could afford to another base. He turned up naked (ish). The wolf armour has now gone missing. One free F-17 to anyone who can find it (provided you let me have a corsair along with the armour).
  23. And back on the subject of difficulty: does the game intentionally select terror sites that are just out of range? All the time? I've managed to get 3 bases up: should be able to get to at least one of them, you'd think. Nope. And even on 'easy' which should be easy to play test (well maybe in Beta), I've lost 3 troops that I can't replace and can't afford anything even if I could build it - 16 technicians aren't worth having. Still like the game but can't see me getting much past the end of October at this rate. Will see how I get on though (where's the big pile of cash stashed?).
  24. I had this, but only with 3rd base. Worked out that if I can get the planes there in one go and will no interference from the appearance of alien craft it works ok. 17.6 being played btw.
