I didn't report it properly yet because i hadn't the time to try a clean installation, but i'm having a crashing bug at about 90% of the loading bar while loading on my laptop a GC savegame made on my desktop (both on 1.04 stable branch yesterday). Geoscape savegames loads fine, as well gc saves made directly on the laptop. I'm just saying, don't know if related, still have to try if it'ss an issue related to my laptop installation, and it's an ongoing game since 1.0, so there might be caused by all sort of things.

  9. This makes totally sense. Actually i'm a bit worried about the fact that almost every major patch breaks backward compatibility. I hope that it's just because at this stage of development it's still not worth the effort to keep the savegame compatibility, and not because of some serious problem with the system.
  10. Is the desura version still with 130k+ files? (just got the usual download error after hours around 95% '') edit: ok, finally managed to install that!
  11. Are we back to 130k files (desura version, not the standalone)? I've now an "assets2" with 78397 files (242MB) Is that correct? I don't remember well, but i think that the big archive files are now mostly gone, i see only GC_SpritesAliensXML.pfp, GC_SpritesXenonautsXML.pfp and GC_Tiles.pfp for 247MB Anyway, it looks much more improved, good work!

  14. Another test: gone to october without misisons, just basic researches, and built hangars and aircrafts. Saved in october and reloaded just fine (every reload has been done with the trick to avoid time freeze). Did a terror misison, saved and reloaded, worked. Did an ufo crash (scout in russia's farmland), saved both before reaching the crashsite and after the missione, both worked fine.

For the records, i have the same problem so i tried a new game where i sold my radars to avoid to be bothered by ufo detections, and fast forwarded through the year without doing NOTHING but the 2 basic researches. I saved in october, december, jan, apr, jul aug, september again and october again. When i reloaded (after a new game, to avoid the time freeze), they got loaded correctly, without crashes. The only odd thing was that all the alien bases on the map disapeared. I even tried to do a terror mission on october 1980, and it worked.
  16. for the records, standalone for premium is still v15, with the exit bug, downloaded a couple of hours ago. It's just that you can't get your vehicle out though, not a big deal. Did five missions and still no crashes (However i've got a variation of the same map everytime). The desura's standalone page says 15.1 for standard preorder though, but i can't download it to check if it's the true 15.1 PS: Desura's client update still says v15 of 20 september, i don't know if that's the 15.1 instead.

I don't know how these things works but, is there any kind of virtualization which could allow you to trick your engine into a virtual file system which allows you to put everything into a small amount of files? I'm afraid that the current amount of small files could get you in trouble even with steam, or for further developments...
  18. 14.1, and my base is in the middle east. They came about half into the first month, i can put them down but now i'm stuggling with founds because i can't have ground missions (both because the high number of them, sometimes i have a couple of three fighter squadrons close to my base and even on top of some scout, like they were escorting it..., and because they always gets destroyed). I have a second, radar-only base in central america, and it spots far lesse fighter and a lot more scouts, but i don't have a ground squad there yet, because i don't have enough founds... I remember now that i had the same problem even with v12 (i jumped v13 because i gave up on desura...). Its a bit frustrating to not being able to play the "core" game (the ground missions), and playing only air combat instead (even if i like very much how it's implemented) There is any way to manage to don't get the fighters *always* destroyed without risking to much to loose your aircrafts? (again... founds...)?

I know that alpha doesn't suppose to care about balance, but it happens to anyone else that very soon 90% of ufo spotted are groups of three fighters (or if lucky single fighters) and i can't get to anything else because i have to fight them since they are very aggressive? In addition they always get destroyed, and because of that i'm going through the second month with like three ground missions in total since the beginning of the game...
  20. I'm getting tired of Desura. Still no way to get the update without errors. I think that i'm gonna give up. I hope that they get only a tiny cut of the the preorder price...

I'm not questioning Chris' good intentions, it's just a problem with game comunities in general, every time you lay off a release plan (which is a good thing, and i encourage him to keep doing so), part of the comunity take it as a promise, where you didn't actually promise anything. Chris himself says in the very same post that things could get delayed unexpectedly.
  22. He didn't promise anything, it's just the plan. Things could go wrong, don't sweat it.
  23. I have to concede him that it's a bit confusing where the updates are placed. It took a while to figure it out myself. I strongly suggest at least a sticky to redirect people to the right place (or post them in the xenonauts forums where they should belong)
  24. I'm pleased, you're on a shorter timeframe than i thought. Of course things could go wrong, but it's nice to know that you're trying so hard.
