That's not really just a problem of a society, but of people in general. In the middle east, it seems like as if you can say anything that does not insult Islam. In the west, the problem is that many people think that a right to free speech means the right to be heard. On the contrary, a person has the right to express his views but people have the right not to listen and the owners of the medium in which the speaker expresses his views has the right to refuse him the right of expression. For example, if someone came here and started writing hate speech, the moderators and owners could remove the said person from the board without infringing on his/her freedom of speech.
A healthy bit of nationalism wouldn't hurt you, Svenskärna, allowing everybody into your country often causes a lot of problems and your tolerance for the intolerable is a part of national character that can be easily exploited by people with bad intend.
However, I can agree that Europe's current nationalistic trend is a bit scary. Some people are forecasting Islamic Europe by 2050 while others speak about a possibility of death camps reopening all across Europe. Personally, I find both forecasts both extreme and terrible.
