  1. Chuck Norris doesn't flush his toilet. He scares the s*** out of it. Don't burn me bro! Dont' burn me bro! Speaking of which...someone sensed the emebrs of this thread. RUN FOR YOUR LIVEs:
  2. What makes you think they aren't privy to information? And who do you think would give the govenments in question the needed edge? Just becasue the armies of the wrold can combat the aliens doesn't mean they can do so effectively.
  3. But what's the point? You are already shooting at the enemy NOW. Increased chance of reaction fire doesn't mean much, since those AP's you left might remain unused, and thus, go to waste. So in effect it's better to just shoot and leave no AP for reaction fire, thus making the "inreaced chance to be reaction-fired at" penalty pointless. Hm....maybe make it so that rection-fire costs for attacking supressed units cost less? That might actually make it worth-while.
  4. You speak heresy! And being a commisar that is EXTRA HERETICAL! Don't let chaos cloud the devine spark of the Emperor. His light burns brightly in the souls of the Faithfull, and his presence will warm them for all eternity. The heretics will suffer the ultimate punihsment and be given to the clensing flanmes of purgation!
  5. Having other people in the world do their part wouldn't hurt the premise of the game at all. The Xenonauts are basicly a tech-aquisition department. Search & steal.
  6. Hm...if people fire full auto-on you to supress you, I don't think they will have TU's left to reaction-fire on you. Doesn't that negate the danger of runing out of cover? You can just casualy walk away The biggest problem with getting this to work is the fact that it's turn-based and the sequences of events plays differently than in real life. There's no way to model it accurately. You and the enemy take turns. Doesn't it make sense then that the effects/states ALSO take turns? This is the reason why I sugegsted for "supressed" being a state that lasts a turn. If you get supressed on the enemies turn, you are in that state for the next turn.
  7. Easily fixed. If you overkill an UFO, have one of your advisors pop up and say you should try to down one, not destroy it. "Sir, while destroying that UFO is a great, we should try to avoid damaging it too much. The lab boys would prefer it if we forced it to crash, rathen to desintegrate in mid-air. I suggest we avoid using missles on heavily damaged aline craft, and prefer cannons."
  8. The Legendary artifact that is the Racoon Stamp of Approval. We all want it. But there is one item even more legenday. One approval that is beyond mythical. The very gods scamble and beg to get his approval. Yes, you guess it.
  9. If all supression does is reduce reactions, then it's pointless. A player would simply use all of the units TU's to fire and avoid any meaningfull penalty.
  10. Continously fireing DOES improve your chances to hit...because your gun is already poitning and you're spewing bullets..also you can adjust your aim more easily with a sustained barrage. If you're caught in the open..sucks.. But if someone is going full-auto while you are in the open, you are in a pickle either way. You can run for cover, but if you do in a straight line, it's not that hard for the enemy to lead your shots. If you zig-zag, you spend more time under fire. So you're boned either way. Getting the supression mechanic to work in a turn-based games is hard. I'd go and say impossible. If we want to talk realism, you'd be in far greater danger in the moment you are leaving cover then when you are sprinting. But there's no way to model that, because the combatants take shots in turns, rather than continiously. And applying a "to-hit bonus" (or evasion penalty) only when the other guy is leaving cover is unfeasable... Hmm...maybe if we're talking about reaction fire, but supression may eat all TU'. How about this - supression eats half TU's and the other half is used for reacton fire IF the enemy moves. The bonus to hit depends on the distance from the enemeis original position. The further away from the position he was supressed he moves, the safer he is. So basicly: supressed unit - if in cover, no to-hit bonus for the enemy - if caught by reaction fire when moving while supressed, enemy gets bonus to hit (dependent on the distance from the soldiers original position)?
  11. Why? the Geospace IS A monitor/screen you are looking at, while research/engineering IS talking to the head guy there. Nothing out of place there.. Honestly, you ppl are sometimes complaining about the most inane of things.
  12. The whole point of supression fire IS that someone is throwing so much led, you don't dare to move. If you DO move, you should consider yourself lucky if you don't get hit. An accuracy bonus for the supressor makes sense, as it implies he is already shooting to keep the supresee (?) pinned. So..either you DON'T move, and the enemy gets no bonus to hit you... OR you do move and the enemy does get a big bonus to riddle you with bullets.
  13. Here's a few fictional medals...good for refference:
  14. Kill 5 alines in a single mission AND mantain at elast 2 kills per mission for 10 missions = Bane of the Xenos (Crux Terminatus) Insted of enhancing your morale, this medal reduces the morale of every enemy that sees you.
  15. TEh Enemy hides in FLYING METAL BAWKSEZ. WE shall take away their flying metal bawksez.
  16. Back to supression, the idea of supression is to prevent a unit from moving. reducing AP prevents it from doing anything. So just have supressed being a special state that stops you from moving. You can still shoot, throw nades and stuf. Or alternatively, you can move, but if you do move the enemeis get an accuracy bonus to hit you for the entire next turn.
  17. You should...but as it is, practicly everyone is in your line of fire... Like I said.. I saw my soldiers hit someone who was 60° to the side. A person would have to be drunk, dizzy and spinning to miss like that.
  18. Coding civilian AI to do one of these things: - huddle in some corner inside a house. - run away from an alien - run towards soliders, and try to get behind them - if a civy spots a Chinnok, he hides close to it.
  19. The best humanity has to offer can't hit the broad side of the barn?
  20. IIRC; UFO: AI has general accuracy AND skill for a specific weapon type. And skill is incresed with use (use of shotguns increases your accuracy AND close skill...assult rifles increase accuracy AND assult skill, etc..) So any soldier can use any weapon. Soldier with good accuracy will be decent enough with any weapons, but you can specialize them to be really good with one or two weapon types. It's not a fixed/closed class system like the new XCOM.
  21. Yeah, probably. My forum name? Can't recall..been using it forever on hunderds of forums. I THINK it might have been a very old Wing Commadner review....
