  1. Can't agree.. I have emulators and I play some console games and I dont' see them as working better. Plus I can save any time I want with my emulator. No checkpoints for me!
  2. Indeed. You got a small army at your disposal that can pester them untill they submitt. HOORAY FOR CYBERTERRORISM! (cookie to whomever gets the refference)
  3. Ellen Ripley also isn't real. Seriously, Chris has put in an option, so there's nothing more to be said. Adjust the game to you liking folks and let's keep the tounge-fencing to a minimum.
  4. To be fair, all cartoons share some visual similariteis, which is why we can lump them under "cartoony" looking in the first place. For the most part it has to do with stylization(proportions, scale), lighting and coloring. Not always of course. But usually.
  5. Early technology is always wonky. By pioneering something you are dwelling into things no one did before. Refinement comes after. Early sprite graphics wasn't any better. PONG ffs!
  6. Everything ashould be customaizable. If the players want to change the profile picture or any data (including sex) let them. Why should I be only able to change it at start? what if I mispell the name and only notice it later?
  7. Quick, someone draw tiny flag sprites and donate them to the cause!
  8. I keep asking myself - why would hypervelocity weapons destroy equipment? The aliens armor? Yeah, it would leave a nice hole. If they hit the rifle the alien is holding, sure. But what are the chances of that actually happening? Speaking of which: http://what-if.xkcd.com/1/
  9. I fnid it funny that the old Macross is more believable and down to earth than the new crap they keep chugging out. Yeah, the animation can be really bad..especially when the backup animator team did the job. But it can also be really good at times.
  10. Who would anyone change the name a dozen times anyway? If you do change it, you do it at the very start, because you have soemthing specific in mind. I don't know anyone who keeps changing names. I know 2-3 who change nicknames based on what a soldier does. But I don't see it as a sproblem at all. Then why is it so hard to accept that you can hire a soldier with a name you specificly like? There's 6 billion poeple on the planet. Forcing a player is often not a good thing. And if stats define a soldier, then changing the name changes nothing. Especailly since at the start of the game the stats are pretty much the same. Why would you dissalow other players to paly the game as they like? Now I dont' see much point in changing the name several times myself, but I see no reason to spend time and resources on trying to specificly stop it for no gain whatsoever.
  11. It is a critique. Too fantastical with the "turning thoughts into proteins" bit. Aliens that mind-rape you? Why not? But they should be well designed.
  12. EU's graphics are fine. Period. I don't get graphics wh***s and their obsessiveness with all the lastest vanity features. Does a game look GOOD? Yes? Then we have nothing to talk about.
  13. Instead of selling items on the black market, you could gift them to various nations to improve your standing. And technicly, if Xenonauts isn't technicly part of any military, then you could sell those weapons.. Yes to this. Altough for govenments, human life is cheap. So your soldier dying to get a new plasma rifle for your scientists to study would be in their eyes a good thing.
  14. 1) I have to disagree wiht you guys. The idea that there is no one competent on the planet doesn't sit well with me. What exactly IS the problem with getting better recruits? (other that someones bruised ego). What exactly IS the problem with training (devised by your own best soldiers). I don't get it. Recruit a guy and put in in for training. It makes sense. It has a cost ($ and time) It's not overpowered (1-2 ranks more than what you get) 2) I wouldn't change the Chinook range. Actually I would deliberately prevent all but the most modern dropships from being able to reach everywhere. It will reinforce the need for more than 1 base and 1 strike team. Speaking of which, has anyone ever built a workshop or laboratory in another base?
  15. So don't change it. Of all the things to find immerions breaking...really. You soldiers changing wepon specilaizations? Aliens not bombing us to stone age? ETc, etc... Seriously, I think a vocabulary check is in order. Immersion = something that makes you get lost in the game. Versimilitude/beleviability = something that makes the setting feel real (even tough it's not) Realism = something that mimics reality Being able to change the soldier? Why not? Think of it as hireing a nother guy and not changing the existing one. In other words, you didn't hire Shelly Anderson, 26, from Canada. You hired Mohhamad Al Safiri, 35, from Egypt. After all, Xenonauts is sponsored by the entire world, so you should have a pick from everyone around the world, not just 10 starting soldiers. Or you can just argue that the soldier got his name legally changed (cna be done) or had a plastic surgery/sex change operation. Whatever sits with you better.
  16. Baseless fear. There is no direct correlation between art style and dispaly technique

  18. Crysis max graphics are still better than 99% games out there. I LOVE Crysis. Best FPS I've played IMHO.
  19. If you ever played PnP D&D, that is nothing knew. Always be ready and always carry a secondary (with a different damage type) It's funny when a party packing only blunt weapons gets attacked by zombies.
  20. There is a difference between having a weapon come out as best overall and having other weapons be compeletely useless in comparison. In that JA2 list, there's pletny of weapons whre the statistical difference is so small that it really doesn't have a noticable impact. Also, with different damage types or special properties, you can give different weapons different feels. Advanced. Usefull. Better (but not necessarily in every way). Sure, if you research advanced ballistic weapons, the older one should be obsolete, because they are the same weapons, only improved. but when talking about weapons that work on compeltely different principles...like lasers, plasma and kinetics. I see their application and strengths/weakneses as different enough that they have their use. Alternatively, you cna have tiers of weapon types. So laser 1, laser 2, plasma 1, plasma 2 etc... So what's wrong with picking weapons you like?
  21. Oh, about the crappy, big boxy laser rifles? This is how a laser rifle prototlye looks like. It's big. It's big because new technolies and prototypes are by definition new territory and such lacking in efficiency. Remember the first cell phones? they were huge The first computers? they were big If anything, the laser rifles looks like they should.
