  1. Yeah and people keep blaming Desura for it And on latter, its pretty small company. Besides, they do have surprisingly lot of indie games there.
  2. I can't really accept your reasons for believing it lacks depth though Because if less inventory option means less debth then I would have to believe that chess/board games and Fire Emblem and other SRPG are shallow games. Also, even if I would believe you in that game doesn't have deep strategical choices, more complex =/= automatically more better as simpler =/= automatically worse.
  3. Someone on thread analyzed that names of achievements and mission names imply that missions take place on coastline so thats possibly TFTD connection without actually making TFTD game. Also, there is Kiryu-Kai from original game's manual backstory so maybe it has ex member of Kiryu-Kai or something?*shrugs*
  4. Can't be Xenokitty, it might get confused with someone
  5. Oh, you meant GAMEPLAY steam I thought you were talking about my "Wohoo" then venting out stuff Yeah, they are for power generators that add 20 power really useful when you get base were one steam block is one access lift and excavation away since it means you don't need to waste money to build multiple power generators.
  6. Eh, people who like XCOM: EU are minority here(or rather people who consider it 'XCOM game', there are more people who think its good game but not XCOM game), but nobody is gonna lynch you for it Unless you are alien in which case, RUN, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE D:
  7. Hey, I just played 60 hours with only stopping to sleep and eat and such and 7 failed playthroughs so I'm happy I finally managed to do it I like completing hard games even though I had some major luck. Plus each time I get addicted to game I can't get rid of it except by completing the game at least once so I can now focus on using rest of my week of vacation to do other stuff. I do plan to start new playthrough though, but now that I've done every research and foundy project and completed the game I know what to expect so I won't have that feeling of wanting to see rest of it. So anyhoo, your music comparison to ME is incorrect, guy who composed music for this did music for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. So check that game's music to get better comparison of what this game's music sounds like.
  8. Huh, nice, sad that keys are probably already used and I don't have ipad
  9. Wohoo! Beat the game! And yeah, on Classic(tutorial North America first month helped a lot since tutorial makes first month to be safe and North America's bonus allows for more money. Plus I got by luck such situation that world started without panic(yeah, initial panic state of world is random) and good access to steam in base)) Actually, I got REALLY lucky in this playthrough(about 8th one I think, I'm not sure) ._.; I managed to get alien captures VERY fast(for example, captured both thinman and sectoid in first mission with arc thrower) allowing me to research things faster which finally allowed me to get equipment fast enough to keep up with aliens. In the end I managed to beat the game losing only china, but I got REALLY really REALLY lucky Plus Tutorial first month North America helps. So yeah, I doubt I will ever again get this good classic run even if I repeat it on tutorial america =/ I had two previous failed runs on that already... And my total playtime of game is 60 hours ._.; Darn, I've been playing it a lot since friday... Anyway, comments? Game does get easier when you have best equipment(blaster launcher is especially awesome obscure weapon ) especially with psionics and if you have team of colones/shivs(which are godsend btw Seriously, I think part of reason why this playthrough went better was that I used more shivs..), but if you make mistakes you will still lose someone as late game enemies do ton of damage...
  10. Hmm, I guess UFO escape has very big score loss grading wise? .-. That or grading isn't balanced... Anyway, in my case ufos are VERY rare which is kind of hard as they have most useful stuff.
  11. Hmm, btw, does anyone have confirmation on whether alien invasion progresses on its own or not? I'm under impression that it does as its possibly to have base mission with early game enemies rather than late game ones. Though that might be because I got lucky and it didn't have cyberdiscs or mutons.(while on other time I got those before base, but I lost the game before I could assault the game)
  12. Yeah http://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=Scoring As you can see, no other alien mission causes significant score loss. It does give you tactical depth in that sense that it makes it harder as you have to only choose one(what kind of lack of resources do they have anyway? I mean thats why Bradford says you can only respond to one, but what is it? Lack of hangar space for two skyranges? Lack of soldiers? What?) which can be very hard since sometimes its better to take the reward than manage the panic and reverse. In original game its just matter of responding to every mission, at least until you get bored of doing grounded ufo missions. Anyway, its debatable whether that is good thing as managing the panic levels is frustrating unless you know what to do or get lucky with missions. @Wiglaf: Basically basic ones are good for nothing but medium ufos at best unless you get lucky or use boosting items well plus get lucky. At least until you get firestorm which is superior to the point it can take down everything, I assume it might have problems with battleship though but never got chance to try that out.
  13. I learned how to play Dwarf Fortress with tutorial video... Speaking of Oblivion and Skyrim, its kind of annoying how people blame consoles for "dumbing" down. I mean, yeah, quest tracker and fast travel is immersion breaking, but Morrowind is rather ridiculously hard early on when you keep missing enemy despite hitting them with sword Dice rolling feels off in such games.
  14. Umm, sorry, but that doesn't work. Losing terror mission = Insta loss for country plus panic, so if there was three choices with at least on terror mission, you would have to take that one always. Secondly, in original game not doing ufo landing mission isn't major, only missions dangerous for losing the game is terror misson because ignoring them gives you 1000 score penalty. Though you can apparently just abort mission to get 0 points to either side.
  15. While I think XCOM: EU is great game, I'm now starting to suspect that Wiglaf really is a troll as opposite is more popular opinion here
  16. About this game's intercepting... I realized that if you want to use normal ones for anything beyond small ufos, you HAVE to use those one time buff items. Of course, I didn't ever spend money on them, but in retrospect I realized that that way you can take down stronger ufos provided you have good equipment and enough evading ones. This game's intercepting is about as complex as original game's,(Is there a need for you to do "aggressive" attack after you have better aircraft weaponry? Or cautious attack/standard attack?) but the fact you can only intercept with one aircraft at time makes it rather hard. Bizarrely it ends up contributing to that "Choice" thing they are doing with this game because using corpses and money for bonuses can end up being rather useless because ufos are rare in this game.
  17. Wait, how the heck you got F? .-. Did you lose terror mission or something? I got F only twice, one was month when I lost my best soldiers and another was month when NOTHING happened beyond research getting completed.(sadly; couldn't survive december )
  18. There are counters to that, though they are pretty rare... For example, assault with that reaction fire if enemy approaches them ability. In fact, assaults pretty much kill berserkers easily when given chance.(whoever said few pages ago(it was this thread right?) that shotguns are useless is plain wrong, you just need to be at close range with them.(its easier than it sounds as assault class' perks are made for that to be possible) They have good critical chance too) Though yeah, you are still most likely gonna lose one guy unless you have chitin plating on everyone or something.
  19. Oh, my bad Yeah, those games are totally not XCOM. Though I've heard that Enforcer is apparently fun in brainless arcade shooter way even though its bad game and that Interceptor is apparently okay space sim that at least tries to be XCOM like(aka it has apparently research and some strategy elements). Still, who in the world thought those to be good idea?... Only good thing to come out of those is Interceptor's manual's in game setting history.(it doesn't have pop culture references like the game has and it does seem to fit rather closely to the canon. So I take it as canon in broad strokes)
  20. Hey! I have childhood nostalgia for Apocalypse and its my favourite!(only problem with it is that crap ton of stuff got cut out. Its possibly to not notice it, but when you are aware of it game feels uncompleted(because really, capturing from VIP from corporations would have fleshed them out more) when compared to original game) But yeah, TFTD is worst of original three, though it does have its own good points. Mainly alien colonies(not gameplay wise though, they are just frustrating to play through), they feel more unique than alien bases as alien bases use same tilesets as UFOs.
  21. I personally think that Firaxis game counts as XCOM game because of same reasons why 3D Mario games count as Mario game even though they play completely differently from 2D ones: Same premise, same concept, same genre.(for example, defending earth from aliens, intercepting research and tactics, tbs in this case) But I guess its up to whether you consider gameplay or concept to be what defines series.
  22. Hey, I liked UFO: Afterwhatever games Though thats because I saw them as separate thing from XCOM games. I was kind of expecting worse whats with lackluster interest by XCOM fans and everything
  23. So you mean that you want your games as realistic as it is possible? Ok, got it. @Par'Gellen: Hmm, yeah, I've noticed it that in this game its best to fight enemy groups one by one if possible, of course its hard to get good flanking without getting line of sight to enemies elsewhere... But yeah, since enemies that trigger scratter thing on their turn can't attack, as long berserker does it on enemy's turn, its not too hard to deal with. Unless you are in position where you can't kill it or your units panic from intimidation and shoot each other. Good thing that high will units do that rarely...
