  1. Yeah, this kind of stuff was brought up as a possibly polish item ages ago. Possibly part of some form of 'death list', Roll of the Fallen kind of thing. Weirdly, what made me attached to my soldiers was simply that they were little more than a bunch of numbers. But they were MY number-bags and that's what was important. I'd hired them, I'd commanded them and most importantly, they'd survived. It was always the stupid things that really made me like my troopers. Like a Captain Dimitry who'd been injured slightly several times (5 days or so each time) and was leading a squad of mostly rookies in a Snakeman terror mission. Advancing through smoke across a park, he killed 3 snakes where his useless charges failed, a true hero. Turn end. Snakeman lunges out of the smoke and shoots him in the face with a plasma rifle and kills him. Or RavenX II and his incessant bullet-magnetism.
  2. RTS have taught us this. Elite troops get blue lasers. As for the medals and stuff, yes they would add 'depth' but not much compared to quite alot fo the list. I'm pretty sure at least half of them were mechanical things rather than window dressing (like tanks leaving corpses that can be used as cover, equipment templates, things like that).
  3. Hmm, another secondary objective could be: Kill every alien in a base attack (their base, not yours). You don't have to, but you can and should get much better rewards. Chris did mention upping the loot for base attacks to make them more worthwhile, so having a full clear give you much higher amounts of loot would work into that as well.
  4. The ones we've been told of so far are in terror missions. Various landsmarks and special locations, defended by NPC troops. If they're still intact at battle end you get bonus points, which result in increased nation happiness.
  5. Ordered the weasels from PETA, or do you mean re-capture?. Also, the actual X-com troopers don't kill civilians (on purpose), the recovery teams and intelligence agents do. Its due to the anti-alien missions being 'official' business, so X-com proper isn't meant to kill humans while on them. They are, however, required to cause major structural damage on terror missions as a cover story. The recovery teams don't bring the ordnance necessary to do so themselves, and are busy finding, interviewing and executing the surviving civilians. Its all for a good cause though. People are less likely to panic if its just 'terrorist attacks' compared to 'alien invasion'.
  6. Rank. Higher ranks have a stronger (possibly larger) morale boost aura. Its part of the mob-effect morale boost.
  7. Er...no? Oh, wording. Meant I'll keep watch.

Sathra: What? No! That's crazy. That's like taping 2 cats together and using it to mine. Sathra: I'll ask the prisoners. *short delay* Sathra: WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU! EARS RINGING FROM THE SCREAMING! THEY DON'T LIKE THE NAME! OR PHOTO! OR LIFE-SIZE MODEL!
  9. Medals would be great, I agree. But they're not essential, which is part of the concern. There are ALOT of nice-to-have things floating around (its several pages of 12pt last time Chris mentioned it), and not all of them are going to be implemented.

Floating and how incredibly average they are. They don't excel at anything, but they're not crap at anything either. Sectoids are twitchy but weak, Snakemen are good shots but slow, Mutons are tough but stupid and Ethereals are just flat out bastards, but tend to waste their TU on psi-spamming rather than shooting.
  11. Yeah, this got discussed alot. I think the final decision was to bring it back more in line with X-com (ranks based on numbers of troops, in a pyramid hierarchy), possibly with having officer promotions being player-decided. One of the major reason for having no limit to the number of ranks available was for showing the experience level of soldiers. Its now unnecessary due to the personnel screen.
  12. Ooh, new air-combat GUI. Under Battlefield Equipment, it has "electric stan batons". And the Chinook can only carry 10 troopers now?
  13. Everyone needed to make a new account, just that a few of us did so as soon as the site was revealed. Edit: You guys are so paranoid >.>

Cobra is in the US, so the floater base is closer to them. The snakeman base is in tibet or something, so Area 01 is closer to that. Floater bases are actually harder for me than snakeman bases, since Snakes are such terrible soldiers. Sure, they can shoot good, but they're so slow it doesn't really help them. Chryssies aren't to hard if you know how to deal with them (pro-tip: don't bomb the bejeezus out of the base till they're all dead, smoke is your enemy against Chryssalids).
  15. Yay! I assume the throw range will be balanced properly too? Was always a bit odd that HE packs became better to use than grenades for veteran troops, who could still throw them really far, without the inherent 'hit the battlefield ceiling' problem.
  16. Better than my idea of how to keep a highly active anti-alien organisation secret. The LP's version of X-com is basically a globally funded terrorist group that just happens to attack the aliens most of the time.
  17. Pretty much. Always good to be informed of such things rather than them being a horrible surprise (no, I'm not still sore about SoTS 2 at all...)
  18. Oh yeah. Made great use of it in X-com for finding bodies and grenades. And just seeing the sheer devastation I've wreaked. And, y'know, getting an overview of the battlefield and my troop placement vs the map architecture. Best place for a sniper, good areas to flank from, stuff like that.
  19. Maybe not massive. Say...twice the size of the current RPG HE rocket one, but 2/3 of the damage. Splash some fire around too. Should only be for actual overkill (say, -50hp) situations, otherwise it becomes either a liability or a...well, plan. Looking at you Gauddlike.

Lol. So you guys want me to throw you at another base? Floater or Snakeman? Oh, and any requests for weapon changes? The only things we haven't researched (yet) are small launchers.

Must be. Its nearly the end of June for crying out loud! We should have been having them start to appear around May. Then again, Snakemen were pretty delayed too...

2 more. Floater base in Cuba (or thereabouts), and another Snakeman base in the Himalayas (where the Stuffers raided the supply ship). Should be another one being build soon too. Also, where are the Mutons, seriously?
  23. Oh oh! Is it the Chryssalid-but-worse critter?
  24. Grenades aren't currently planned to have a delay (you just throw them, no priming necessary). The breaching charges might, but we haven't been told much about them beyond their existence. Having a massively overkilled vehicle explode could be a nice addition though.
