Yeah, well, we all gotta be good at something. I'm going at being outside two standard deviations.

Start of combat. Sebiillian nine squares away, no cover. I have three guys in the end of the chopper. Sniper: 75% miss Assault: 56%, miss, 56% miss Assault: 56%, miss, 56% miss Just now, standing two squares away, 95% miss with shotgun. Next turn, kills my guy (of course). This is getting ridiculous. So am I being lied to? By say...50%? Because everyone seems more accurate, well, actually, no, just the aliens.

V19 Experimental Build 6 available!
Ishantil replied to Aaron's topic in Xenonauts-2 Releases & Patch Notes
This looks like a great update! I'll try this when I get home from work this evening. Great work! I was hoping to see some balance changes to the Air Combat section, but I'll see how it goes. -
I was thinking it would be nice to have an M-79, since I find that the rocket launcher is sometimes "too much" and a thrown grenade is "not enough"

I wanted to stop by and comment that this mod is amazing work. Well done, Max and a333. Fantastic stuff.

That will make playing the game a lot easier! I like it!

Sounds like you put a whole lot of work into the system. Thanks for doing that. And I love how you guys are happy to work with the community, Aaron. Good show!

that would be awesome

Uwa, did they seriously name an armor "buzzard"? They realize that's a vulture, right? Edit: Upon looking that up, it looks like it has different connotations, depending on where you live, haha. To Old World types it means "hawk" apparently. We Americans use it to be mean "vulture".

My experience with the aliens is entirely based on two species; Sebillions and Sectoids. So I cannot accurately say how well the aliens' health is balanced.
-
Yes, Sectoids and Aquatoids were the most fragile of the species, followed by Floaters. Once you got Heavy Plasma Rifles, only the larger aliens such as terror units and Mutons/Lobstermen were problematic. In any event, one hit kills with a good weapon, such as human designed lasers or plasma rifles would be okay on lower ranked stuff. The main problem I have is that it takes me several turns with 4 guys to hit an alien enough times to kill it. So the increased lethality that I was speaking of was accuracy based, not weapon strength based.
-
I prefer the higher lethality to the "movie style" of the new X-COM. The reboot feels like you've got four guys who are killing every alien in the invasion. I didn't like that. You're waging a war, not a skirmish. And that didn't suit the game well, I don't think. There's nothing wrong with your soldiers being unique and hard to kill, but the lethality of the game should mean that you are expecting to lose people. It's a war for Earth, after all. So my vote is increased lethality.

Can you post the code, rynait?

The pacing of the game is very aggressive, and missing the UFO, as it were, really hurts you. I didn't see a Standard Scout until I started seeing Corvettes and Heavy Fighters. Imagine my surprise. So when the Mediums started setting off terror missions, I hadn't seen a speck of Alenium. I went straight from shooting down Light scouts will all ballistic weapons to Corvettes, Landing Ships, and Standard Scouts. The standard Scouts I could beat, the rest annihilated me. When I got my first standard Scout, I finally got some Alenium, plasma rifles, etc. Each wave, I could only manage to shoot down the light ones, and thus, everything turned to pot. I've basically abandoned the 19.5 air combat at this point. I don't have the energy to play it anymore unmodified. So I'm waiting for 19.6 or 20.0 or whatever. I'm toying with making some light modifications to the aircraft just so I can play more of the game.
-
Personally, I just want them to tone it down some and/or decouple the air combat difficulty from the main game difficulty.
-
I appreciate you looking into the thread, Chris. I think there's certainly some remaining balance options available.

Two hardpoints and no gun. What a waste of a plane. -
How does the Foxtrot refueling faster than a Condor make any sense at all?
