  1. That'll be awesome. The forums have indeed been slow the last few days. Just take that as a sign that more and more people want to dig into the Awesomeness that is Xenonauts
  2. Yeap. I downloaded the standalone version twice last night. I could open the zip, but it wouldn't run at all and said it wasn't a valid win app. I posted saying so earlier in this thread. The Desura version from inside the program Desrua works, but on the "Play" tab in Desura Xenonauts is stuck saying "100%-Updating", even though it's done updating and I can play 18.5 fine. Desura is a crap program. I'm crossing my finger this gets on Steam asap because I'm really tired of Desura.
  3. Desura is showing the update for me now..lol, after I finished downloading the stand-alone. Odd though when I ran the exe in the unpacked standalone it said it wasn't a valid win32 app and wouldn't run. No worries though as I figure I won't need it now with the Desura update.
  4. Desura isn't showing an update for me through the Desura client but I am downloading the standalone from the Desura page.
  5. I've more than gotten my value from the extra $10, you and the team deserve it, Chris. I'll also be really happy to move my game from Desura to Steam. I don't particularly like any of the digital services but if I have to pick between the two I'll go with Steam, especially with the benefits of Steam over Desura as you describe. So we should look for our Steam keys some time before or right after the Steam launch? Also, the Beta is most excellent. Very well done, and stable. You guys have made HUGE leaps and strides over the last 6 months. I CAN'T WAIT for the Xenonauts full launch. I dare say this is better than X-Com!!!
  6. Awesome News, Chris!!! I'll be glad to move my game over from Desura to Steam honestly. Desura is ok and everything but it's DL speeds are horrible when compared to Steam. No worries on the costs we paid. I'd say we're all very happy supporting you and Xenonauts. I also like Gauddlike's idea of just changing the text to "Founder". It simplifies it to showing people who supported the game before it went to Steam and in its-self explains why new purchasers won't be able to get one. Also, I assume when the Steam release hits we'll all get emailed Steam Keys correct?
  7. I sure hope the game updater is working. My version is updating now but it's taking fooooooreveeeeeeeer. Maybe even a little longer than that..lol. Seriously though why is it so slow? 166.6 kbs per second. If this was a car I'd get out and push Luckily the Awesomeness of Xenonauts is worth the wait Good update btw, Chris. That's good stuff brother.
  8. I'd gladly like a meat-shield...er, I mean squaddie, named after me. Enjoy. Try not to rush me into my death too quickly unless I can take a bunch of aliens (or civilians) with me....hehe.
  9. Sorry for the double post and also more on topic: Geoscape: I miss the lights being on the parts of the world currently in the dark/night. I think it would be much better on the geoscape if you put those back. That's just my opinion though.
  10. I'm %100 with you here, Chris, and I was born in 78. I can see the argument for the pure/complete 70's style, but, we should suspend that portion of immersion I think. These are "super secret, best of the best, the military is 20 years ahead of us" types in Xenonauts after-all. If we go pure 70's, all the black guys will have to have either huge puffy afro hairstyles or jerry-curls and all the white guys will look like the Dukes of Hazzard in military gear.... Let's not do that and pretend we did...please....for the love of god please. Maybe put some 70's styles cars on the maps where you're in a civilian or residential environment. That's 70's enough for me. Plus the starting weapons and military tech is all late 70's and early 80's gear. I can live with that.
  11. Indeed, quite right. This is even more apparent in TFTD. When surrounding the entrance to a UFO aliens will often pop out the door, take a shot or two, then go back inside knowing the door would close and the next turn you wouldn't have a clean LoS on them to take a shot. It really annoyed me how they vaunted the "cover system" in the NG to be new to X-Com when the OG did it as well. The only difference was in the OG the devs had the common sense not to advertise that getting out of the way of incoming fire was a new and special game mechanic because in a logical combat situation it was just common sense. I can see it now... "Someone's shooting at me, gee, I think I'll get behind this wall. Hey I have a brilliant idea, I'll call this Cover and say I was the first to invent the tactic!!! I'll go down in military history!!!!" No stupid, it's called getting the hell out of the way. Self preservation. It's not a new mechanic you invented and can take credit for just because the person who did it years before you didn't think people were dumb enough to have to put a name on a common sense action...
  12. Or anywhere else really for that matter. At least not when it comes to devs mentioning possible time-frames. Unexpected things can always pop up during development cycles and dates can get pushed back often as I'm sure we all know. Internally this isn't a problem but if people outside the team are expecting something, even beta testers, they can feel jilted if exact dates aren't stuck to like glue. It makes me miss the good old days of being a beta tester where you either got paid to do proper testing or were compensated with at least a free copy of the game and a mention in the credits. Now days companies know they can get gamers to test their games for them for free and even pay for the chance to do so. Hence monetizing and outsourcing QA both at the same time, while mentally getting the consumers en mass to except buggy unfinished software when a company simply releases something as is and then stops supporting the product. You can't blame a small company like Goldhawk or a bigger indie like Stardock for doing this as it's more or less standard in the industry now and it legitimately helps companies like them who need the help financially making a good game. Larger companies like Blizzard for example though can afford to dump millions into QA to make sure they put out a flawless product but they don't, instead choosing to milk their customers for extra cash and make them falsely feel special because they're in a "beta". The good ol days didn't last nearly long enough. Once upon a time it used to be possible to pay your bills on a beta tester's income without having to directly work for a big publisher or report to a office every day. If I could turn back the clock and set the industry as a whole to rights I'd do it a heartbeat.
  13. I started replaying TFTD the other day and remembered the horrid ship terror missions. So far I've only lost 3 missions, all ship terrors I either ignored or started and aborted.
  14. Looks like things are coming together nicely and timely as well. I love it when a plan comes together
  15. These look AWESOME, Chris. One suggestion though. On the Barracks screen where it list soldier stats I would suggest dropping the "S" from APS and HPS. Either that or add a apostrophe so it says AP's and HP's. Aside from that minor detail, 100% kick ass!!!
  16. Awesome. Sounds like you're nailing things down at a good rate. No rush, Chris. Hearing that there's more than one alien base type sounds pretty cool. Appreciate the update. Keep on rockin!!
  17. True. I think the page is older, and the comment is obviously before the updated date on the page. I think the date was changed/updated to 11 December. I think it might be mm/dd/yy as well. I think March was the date it was pushed back to the first time it was pushed back. I'm still not seeing a updated date on the game's site its-self and you'd think if they were a month away from release they would update the page and say so. Then again they're a small Russian indie group. If they're barely getting the game out or sales are horrible here they might not care about updating their English page. It would be nice to know something for sure though.
  18. I found some info on UFO:ET2. According to a few sites like this one, http://games.gamepressure.com/game_info.asp?ID=17214 the current release date is supposed to be December 11th. So if they're on schedule it should be next month just in time for a Christmas present. Lets cross our fingers. Also a good way to bide our time until Xenonauts comes out .
  19. In the end Disney would buy the rights to it killing the hopes and dreams of any serious fans.
  20. Take all the time you need, Chris. In the end some people may complain about timeliness because we all live in a "I want it now!!" society. Everyone else however would much rather wait a little extra time and have a nice stable build to test then deal with something pushed out just to be "on schedule" like the big companies do which we've all seen a million times. After the new X-Com I'm just all the more ramped up for Xenonauts. Slow and steady wins the race. Since I bought Xenonauts a long time ago I've seen you make HUGE strides in stability and game quality. Keep on rocking brother. Take all the time you and your team need.
  21. I've already beaten the new X-Com. It's a cool game, but so many key elements are missing it isn't really X-Com anymore, at least in a deep strategic sense. If the old X-Com and the new were both card games, the old game would be "Magic the Gathering" while the new game would be "Poke'mon". After being let down by many of the missing options in the new X-Com it's only stoked my Total Excitement for XENONAUTS!!! Go Chris (and team), Go!!!
  22. What did we have to do to get a named soldier? It's been a while and I can't remember. Was it just kicking in for "Premium" or something above and beyond that?
  23. Sweet. Between this and X-Com now only a month (and a few days) away it'll be a good time for hunting down alien scum.
  24. Awesome. Been a while since I checked in on the status of things. Go Team Go!!!
