V 21 Stable - Random system lockups

Recommended Posts

I've used v16 stable build in the past but had stopped playing for a while and waited for more patches/updates for this game.

In the past I only experienced crash to desktop or the game will stop responding but I was able to close the game off with task manager or alt F4.

I've just updated Xenonauts to v21 stable today and I've been experiencing system lock ups only while playing this game, my keyboard becomes unresponsive and there is no hardrive activity and the music is looping over and over.

There is no pattern to it ether.

The first system lockup I experienced was at the main menu screen when i first launched the game and had to reset my computer, I assumed it was my firewall and turned it off.

The next lock up happened when I was on my first UFO mission on the battlescape (about 5 minutes into the mission) I selected a soldier and pressed( I )to look at his inventory and the game locked up my system again.

I tried a third time and reloaded my auto save and tried the mission again and all was good until I was at the base management screen and I was replacing injured soldiers from my squad when i clicked on an injured soldiers name and the game hanged again.

This is happening randomly for me and I can't reproduce it.

When I used V16 I was able to have gaming sessions for a few hours without a crash and no system lockups.

Now with V21 I play for about 20 or so minutes and my computer completely locks up and need to be rebooted.

I've looked at event viewer in admin tools and nothing out of the ordinary is logged apart from this message

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

Anyone know of a fix for this or is experiencing similar issues???? :(

My system specs are:

Running Windows 7 64 Bit

Intel I7 860 2.8Ghz

P55A-ud4p Motherboard

8gb of ram

Nvidia 460 GTX (332.21) drivers

1TB WD caviar black HD

Using onboard realtek sound card

Running Comodo firewall and Avast free antivirus in the background

I don't think I've seen other people reporting actual system lock-ups, as opposed to crashes. In my experience hard locks on computers are almost always down to a hardware problem - it is quite hard (but not impossible!) for normal programs to cause them. It also seems like you have pretty normal hardware, so I'd be surprised if there was an incompatibility of some sort; also you describe them happening in various parts of the game that run in completely separate sections of the code.

I am not attempting to shift responsibility from Xenonauts here, but are you sure it doesn't happen with any other programs/games?

I haven't experienced system lock ups with any other programs I've been running.

I just played a few hours of dishonored the other day with no issues as well as farcry 3.

With the earlier version of Xenonauts i never experienced this problem.

The only thing I've really changed on my system was updating my video card drivers about a month ago was from version 314.22.

Might be an video driver issue but I want to rule it out.

I know there were issues with nvidia driver with 2d programs a while ago (IE firefox useing hardware acceleration causing massive slowdowns system lock ups) but that should have been resolved in the latest drivers.

Some info about it here:

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/624802/official-nvidia-331-58-whql-display-driver-feedback-thread-released-10-21-13-/?offset=167

I've had system lockups in the past ( very rarely and not for a long time ) but its has been constantly occurring when running Xenonauts

I just want to know if anyone has had these issues or know a workaround to stop this issue IE: disabling a certain setting in windows ect?????

Also does xenonauts use hardware acceleration and is there any sort of compatibility mode/setting i can try to see if it is an video card/driver issue???

Apart from the system locks ups I was very much enjoying the game :(
