MellowJello
After shooting down 3 different UFO sets (2 light scouts and a bomber with fighter escorts), my research on alloy fabrication just happened to finish. I try to close it, but I just end up with a dead button that won't close the xenopedia. Tried escape, enter; nothin'. Here's the save I managed to get right before the research completion: http://www.mediafire.com/download/675p6oqxcqzzl81/2013-09-06_18.11.13.sav
xeno7
I'm new to these forums, just bought the game the other day with the new stable build. I cannot unassign troops from the dropship. I just built my first hunter/scout and wanted to add it to use on missions. Since I cannot unassign any troops, there is no room to add the hunter/scout. Tobbzn
Confirmed, seems to be a bug with Alien Alloy Fabrication - I cannot close it either. I did not finish it as anything happened, it bugged out by itself.

Tobbzn
Start a new thread xeno7, this thread is about research screen not closing. In addition to Alien Alloy Fabrication, Base Upgrade can also not be closed.
Tobbzn
It appears to be related to every research that changes background images; Base Upgrade, Alien Alloy Fabrication and Fusion Reactor all have the SetCurrentBackgroundLevel("1") in their Researches.xml. EDIT: Confirmed, removing that part of the xml fixed the bug. Edited September 7, 2013 by Tobbzn
Calmingstorm
Tobbzn, can you explain where and how you change for those that are not programmers?
Tobbzn
On Windows, open the disk where your game is installed, press ctrl+F and search for "Researches.xml" Edit with Notepad or something like that. Find Alien Alloy Hardening, Fusion Reactor and Base Upgrade and remove the part that says SetCurrentBackgroundLevel. You have to remove some of the symbols on the side too, but compare with the other researches to find the correct syntax. (I don't have the exact phrase that needs to be removed since I already removed it from my install, but I'm sure you'll figure it out.) Calmingstorm
Thank you figured it out with your help
Ishantil
I can confirm this works. I tried changing the syntax by removing the quotes, but it still didn't work. Removing the entire line fixes it. Edited September 9, 2013 by Ishantil
Tobbzn
I'm concerned you may have deleted too much if you deleted "the entire line", so I've uploaded the fixed version here. This version unlocks all relevant tech but doesn't try to change the background image. http://pastebin.com/W8Vqa43M
Calmingstorm
it is a txt file, so not sure how to put it to use
Calmingstorm
the original researches file opened to excel, and in the cell, I deleted the lines. is there what am I missing in doing it that way? is it to be opened differently to change? Ishantil
So it's an XML file, but it's set to open in Excel2003. You can edit it as a txt file. I make a copy of all of the XML files any time the version changes before I start tweaking. It only takes a few seconds (just make a copy of everything in the Assets directory somewhere else). Take your existing researches.xml and rename it to researches.xml.old, then copy the file above in the same place (the assets folder) You only need to delete the one line, not the entire cell. The cell for Alien Alloy Fabrication should look like this: UnlockKnowledge( "Researches.AlienAlloyFabrication" ); Edited September 9, 2013 by Ishantil
Aaron
Good find guys - the code to change the backgrounds has not been merged across to our main branch yet, which is why it causes a hang. I am doing an update now, will push it to the experimental branch right away.
