(I must confess, I always pictured the Xenonauts organization as rather more of a private company in the whole business for the profit - bidding out its services to the various governments for a price rather than being some pitbull for the shambling, corrupt, and degrading world state wannabe that the U.N. is. Thus, it would be less likely to succumb to the dead-headed, unnecessarily hierarchical, ham-handed, tradition obsessed, and creativity hating tendencies that the state armies of the world of exhibit.)

I feel there's definitely a mercenary element in the background text. An organisation that's been in decline for decades thanks to the powers that now rely on it to help save them. That formed some of this thread on an alternate background to the game.

Enjoyed the post Transcendence.

Yeah:

Go into the assets folder within your Xenonauts game folder (within your steam folder, commonapps folder, if you're using Steam) and you'll find the strings.xml file. Search (ctrl-f) for "captain" and you'll end up right on top of where the names are stored.

Hi GizmoGomez,

I don't expect a response given this post is over a decade old.

I edited my soldier rank titles in strings and they all worked perfectly, except for the highest rank.

For some reason, my highest-ranked soldiers become Colonels when they should become Captains.

I've double-checked the strings file and all the rank images so many times.

I have no idea why I have Colonels rather than Captains.

I also used new rank images which all work fine, except the symbol for the highest rank disappears on my Colonel (it reappears if I edit the strings file back to the default Colonel rank).

If you had any suggestions or light you could shed on this issue, I'd greatly appreciate it!

No worries if not.

Thanks.
