When you switch research to a new topic, it resets the entire progress that has been made so far on the old topic. Are the grumpy scientists setting their papers and computers on fire out of anger when you tell them to switch to another topic? If this is intended, at least a warning saying "Are you sure you want to lose all your progress on this?" would be nice, although I would strongly prefer that the progress per entry is saved individually.
