  1. Well, that actually brings up the question about laser gatlings. Do we really need it for just 2 starting condors?
  2. What's that? Other than that, hm, you seem to be right about migs. Need to try that now. And i guess i should skip laser rifles completely and take mostly specialized arms since jack of all trades rifle doesn't look too good at all. As for vehicles, i played a bit with hunter. Yeah, it's good, just very expensive to lose. But levelling everything with pulse laser feels like old x-com with rocket to every barn just in case. Good stuff. Never tried scimitar yet, shrike dropships and corsairs are always more important to build. As for not covering eastern part of SU, well, i tried to keep it safe due to sentimental reasons, but i guess global war on humanity means i have to make sacrifies. Oh well. Poor far eastern guys. Let's see how "more migs, less condors, bases further to south, more lmgs and less rifles" play out,
  3. What's the point? I can understand advantages fully 3d game would give, that is, intereting cover, buildings, etc. But 3d models on 2d maps, why?
  4. Right mouse button on the doorway. The cursor will change to the little door icon, so that's the time. Just move it around a bit to see it.
  5. In the UFOs they shoot. But seriously, the only major complaint about air combat is that i can't set my fighters to do anything but go face to face with ufo during first interception. Not even that - they for some reason don't fly towards the ufo itself but towards the point ufo is heading. If that's mig-32, i want him to just close in fast and go away. No need to spend more time caring about where this big dumb ufo is heading. If that's f-17s, i want them to take the enemy from behind. When the target UFO is slower, it is certainly possible. If i survive closing in with enough evading, i can get behind the UFO and then shoot it all i want with gatlings. So, why not start with it?
  6. I've only tried the game for a few days so far, modifying every approach slightly, but so far it doesn't seem to work just as i thought. Let me tell you how i try to play and any advice would be appreciated. So, it currently looks that i can't really have more than 3 bases. Therefore, i place them like this (sorry, i'm at work and don't have xenonauts map with me) : The starting one is the one in europe, it covers much of european Soviet Union, Europe itself (except for ireland, but more radars later fix that), big part of nothern africa and some middle east. Then i immediately start building the second one, each of those other two will do - Central American covers much of US, at least after second radar goes live, central america itself and some south america, thus covering 3 regions, and asian one covers asian part of SU, indochina itself and a little part of australia. I build one more radar, hangar, living room, stock thing on first base. Some extra soldiers if i see good stats, rest of the living room goes to up to 5 scientists. Then i just wait for second base to be built, lay down 3 hangars and radar there and wait for the month to end. If i have the money by some miracle, i order 2 F-17 in. MiG-32 research starts as soon as possible. After that, i go full plasma research until i get laser gatlings, then switch to alenium to get alenium missiles. While the month is ending, i obviously try to intercept as many aliens as possible and conduct at least one UFO raid to bring me materials for study. Rest i usually airstrike because even a few dead guys make raids unprofitable for me compared to air strikes, and i really really really need money for planes and their bases. I build at least one MiG on the primary base, and if i have more money, i build second one while sending first one to base 2. Second month - with fresh money i start building 3rd base, lay down second radar and probably run out of money. As soon as possible, i finish base 3 and build things there, usually with just one radar because money is low. 2 F-17s and 1 MiG-32 as soon as possible. Next objective is to raid a corvette to bring materials for study. Stun weapons might a good choice to research on the way, because stun grenades help with raiding UFOs a lot. Situation with funding sort of stabilizes at this point and even gets into positive if i'm lucky. However, now the problems with ground combat arise. Simple mistake or just an alien using cover too well can turn UFO raid in a slaughter with over half the team dead. Terror missions bring real terror, i usually pop in, kill 1 or 2 aliens and then the only option is the nuclear strike. If i go about researching and building wolf armor, i lack firepower. Jackal is totally useless. Laser weapons cost too much and take too much time to risk carrying them around on unarmored guys. I still do it sometimes, but this is very risky. Where am i doing mistakes and/or what am i supposed to do next? I guess the logical idea would be to research and build shrike as soon as possible, and then go for corsairs? The thing is, where to get the money for that all? I might have the money to do it very slowly due to one lab/workshop, or i can spend money on additional labs and workshops, probably on the first base because trying to move production elsewhere takes too much money, but then i hang in the air with not enough interceptors or without the 3rd base in general. Generally, funding regions fall off in next months, and earth dies. Something's gotta be wrong. I already had major improvement in ufo hunting with just building 2nd radar on each base, so there must be something else.
  7. (not to op, but to 3d lovers: ) Well, Firaxis made X-Com in 3D. That turned out to be horrible and cartoonish game. There's nothing wrong with sprites. Games with sprites are easier to mod, too. They age well. They look good enough (for me at least). Now, if you want some real innovation, use voxels and modifiable terrain, buildings, allah, everything. Remember Vangers, Perimeter? That'd be great. But if you talk about making everything the same, but prettier, that's not innovation. More complexity would be great for Xenonauts, but Chris already said they aren't going to make addons. Shame, but oh well. On the other hand, some mods look promising, i don't feel the urge to go and try them all myself, but if best of them form some kind of addon, that'd be great.
  8. This feels like magic, but just one additional radar on every base helped me to get from -250k$ every month to mostly positive funding changes. Thanks for the advice. (that still got screwed up by failed terror or two, but who cares)
  9. Oh crap. +25% range each. Now i understand what was all so wrong about my game. Other than 1m bases, that is. Brb, winning a war.
  10. So, why 3 radars? I didn't find any information on radars ingame at all. ...now that i said that, i guess i should look into xenopedia. Sigh.
  11. Oh, insane ironman of course, didn't even think of any other option. Anyway, are you people sure 1m is not the correct price for a new base? Because that's what i've been getting too, if i remember it right. 500k extra cash might be that one thing that changes everything. As for happy nations, ViniJones, i find them to be unhappy no matter what i do. And them stupid aliens never do terror missions that would help with relations a lot! Is it relevant to some knid of UFOs being shot down, i need to keep some landers alive deliberately?
  12. Well, i've encountered the same problem on my first two attemps to win. 3 bases don't seem to be enough. Using one radar per base, tho, maybe that's the problem, why do you recommend 3, anyway? Still, just not enough money to go around, always in negatives with getting money only from air strikes and ground ops. Also, losing is obviously not an option, if you lose even just the laser guns and keep wolf armors somewhere aroud month 3, you're toast. Wonder how am i supposed to get massively better in $ department.
  13. Well, RPG-7 is very outdated by now, it was good enough around Xenonauts ingame time, but now there are many other options to kill a tank for infantry, from RPG-32 to Kornet. You can see some examples of their usage in videos from Syria. Well, not kornet maybe, but konkurs is definately there.
  14. Right, thanks, will get to it after i beat the game in vanilla state. Unless somebody else makes a "tablet" mod first, of course. Some kind of emulating right-click without stylus would be good too.
  15. Again, there's stylus that has right mouse button click functionality.
  16. Well, you don't need to type in names as long as you're playing on ironman, so it's fine. As for the buttons, yeah, did anybody mod it in yet? Or is there a manual about getting buttons in? I tend to play games on surface myself, and the need to get keyboard to press some button pisses me off sometimes. I managed to play dominions using stylus, tho.

  18. So i guess steam is updated as soon as new update rolls out, and humble bundle version is not (the one i see there is from 20th june). The question is, is desura any better? I mean, i don't want to use steam and hopefully never will, but playing latest version must help with bugs. Also, if desura is indeed better at updates, is there a possibility to activate the game there despite buying it via the xenonauts web page widget (or whatever it's called)? Thanks.

  20. Wait a second, is AK actually called AK-47 ingame and in files? Well, such weapon never existed on large scale, it was some some prototypes among other AK prototypes. The first one was just AK, the one around xenonauts timeline is AK-74 or AKM, the most modern one is yet another one but who cares. Point is, AK-47 is certainly not something people in xenonauts would use because it never existed as mass-produced weapon.
  21. There's some sprites included? Where do i find them? Well, RPK would be nice too... I'm not an artist enough to create my own sprites of good enough quality, so i guess i'll have to wait for final release. It's just a few days from now after all. Isn't it?
