  1. You mean one turn after? Sounds interesting. -------- I think, I'll use the opportunity that healing was mentioned and ask a question that was always on my mind: If a soldier is killed (and they sometimes come back alive with 2hp at the end of mission) does it help to heal him with med-packs? Does it by anyway improve the chance that he will be alive at the end of mission or am I just performing needless roleplaying when I heal the bodies?
  2. Well, yeah, steam will overwrite the modded files with each new patch. In most cases you can just replace them back if you don't keep your xnt4.3.rar file. Not likely at this point - but if Chris pulls of some unexpected big patch (one that would breake save files) then you would probably not be able to get back to your old xnt game. So it's better to have auto-update off. Note that steam will update every time you start the game anyway (even if auto-update is off), to be sure that your game doesn't update just play it through the game's exe file. Not steam.
  3. Kabill, thanks for the idea , I was thinking of it already (it sure makes keeping order in game files a mess though ). But I've changed my concept of the aircraft anyway.... it's now >supposed< to be produced. It's just that I was wondering really hard which line in code did I miss. But oh well, curiosity killed the cat - hardcoded. You must admit that things are hardcoded in this game most unexpectedly .
  4. I would love it, if it was more in the lines of Jagged Alliance (they did speak a lot of B$ in Ja - but every line was pure gold). With this im a bit worried it will get repetitive. But I don't know, I haven't tested it.
  5. Well, I'll just set it to manufacture for now, it is a prototype after all I resigned from the conventional aircraft tier 2 concept for now. I want to see all of them flying alongside till they get replaced by more advanced xenobased crafts. My current project: - F17 slightly reduced hp (still "high" in comparison to others) - Mig 31 - one more missile slot (normal sized) ! lowest turn rate in game, slightly improved speed, low hp - M2x, slightly improved range (just a 1000) - Su-T10 ...I've tried two cannons and a heavy weapon, low hp, good turn rate... And I got a funny result : the cannons took all of the interface space...so the avalanche is beyond my control, it fires at will (I could probably change the order in which weapons are displayed though,... still an interesting concept: to have rockets beyond the players control...probably more frustrating than fun though) Here's a look of what the Su looks like in combat along the F17
  6. Thanks for the files and effort Sentelin. I now know what's the difference that made your file work: - you used the Foxtrot It seems that in-game aircrafts can be set to buayble...whilst I can't do the same with the newly created ones. So I must be missing some line of code somewhere...but as I said I looked everywhere for it.
  7. Oh come on, we already have a blue Mirage 2000... I would have to change that one too. @Sentelin that is aircraft.xml, right? (it is one of the true xmls so it works in excel....and it doesn't rly change anything if I set buyable to "yes" ....it's like im missing a string somewhere else) Edit. Tiers ..are complicated. Will be damn hard to find balance - the research tree is already cramped with all the new weapons. But, yes I would like to make the conventional planes much more vurnable. Lowering the upkeep and maybe lowering the cost of command centeres could be an option (more bases, more aircrafts). Maybe you could increase the number of ufos at that point?. I'll think about it and make something out of it when I have the time. For now, goodnight
  8. So, yeah... this is my Su-T10 Cheburashka. All graphics checked. No crashes experienced. It's basically Su-27 Flanker, it's the size of the games mig 31 Foxhound ...except that Flanker is known for it's exceptional manuvrability. Now lore-wise and specification-wise we can do a lot with it cos it was still a prototype in 1979 (code T-10. And the soviets were still experiencing a lot of problems with it) Ideas: 1) At first I was thinking of making it available from game start and make it basically more or less the same as the games F17 (maybe a bit less speed/range more armor/turn rate). Mostly it would in that case serve for flavour (if you build a base under Moscow) 2) Other idea: make it a better version of the F17 but at the same time MUCH more costly (initial price + upkeep) 3) increas Foxtrots range a bit. And make Cheburashka a mid range heavy interceptor (2 heavy weapons + cannon + evasive maneuvers). And damn expensive. Maybe low hp? 4) Make it like in point 3 and costly in upkeep BUT you only get one at game start, you won't be able to buy/produce any more. I basically tried the idea from point 1 .... made it a bit slower than f17. Gave it 1 torpedo/1 missile / 1 cannon... and honestly, after recently playing with Apollo....that was efficient and damn boring. I guys I should find a way to rebalance aircrafts altogether. Apollo is getting positive opinions. So im wondering if changing hp/speed/turn rate of ALL the convetional aircrafts would increas the fun. We now have 4 of them...so we have the resources to play with. TD: Is there anyway to destroy shotdown aircraft instead of that auto-rebuilding for no cost? And I still don't know how to make an aircraft buyable. Edit: Oh, and any ideas how it might be used are appreciated.
  9. Well that's certainly not normal. This happened only once? If so maybe some program (Antivirus/ graphic updater or whatever) was running in your background. If it happens more often you can probably try 1) Updating your drivers 2) Reinstalling the game 3) defragmenting your HDD like Sentelin suggested (the game uses thousands of files - it's that kind of engine... so the speed with which it gets to your HDD (if by chance you didnt defragment it for 7 year ) might probably be a big issue ) Edit. TD ... no ideas about the colors, I didn't test the weapons recently so you should probably ask Sentelin....who is with his books now Fox: OCIW - not possible. engine-wise LMG - maybe; it doesn't rly feel like a machinegun, does it? more like an assault rifle.TD, any thougts about renaming it? It is a good weapon though, you just need soldiers who have both str/acc otherwise recoil will ruin your shots G11 - there are already a lot of weapons in the b2 tier, I don't know if creating any more there wouldn't be redundant, but I dont know, TD is in charge of weapons.
  10. I never touched those particles. I was expecting 500 files for each particle type (as with armour) but in this case it's only one file. I'm sure that there is some kind of catch that makes it difficult to work with. This engine has a catch like that for everything. Everything looks simple at first glance and then the moment you start changing one simple thing it turns out its stringed to another hundred files or/and hardcoded. TD, were you thinking of a recolor or something more? I don't know if I'll be able to do anything later on. I'm a bit busy this week.

  12. Good idea, my laptop hasn't seen a defragmenation for a year now. With the engine the game is using this might actually help quite a lot. ------ Meh, I wanted to play but I got a modding fever. Guess what aircraft I'm making now and I might give you an early spoiler pic And unless TD is planning on making a total air-space overhaul and ufo balance, this is the last one I'm making. (I want the player to have some gameplay/aesthetic choices but I don't want to overwhelm him with a whole air-fleet of choices ). ----- Anyone has any opinions/suggestions on the Apollo btw?
  13. I'll start a new game (well had only those 3 missions in the last. So It's not that bad). Turns out I messed up some of those face/ soldier name files and I was still getting blank faces. Well , that was stil fixable I guess... But I also had about 10 asian guys and more in queue ...and there are only so many asian faces around. So I'm reverting to the normal files and starting again. So yeah, I'll get you guys into my squad, I'll add myself (but what if I die? Game over ? ) and I think I'll name the rest with GOT/ASOIF names...why not. Having Ned killed by a berserking Jaime will be quite fun I guess. As for the name... I always liked underdog characters + I like characters faced with difficult choices +the plot in the books is a bit different than in the series. and it lets you see things through Theon's mind and thoughts. + Alfie Allen's acting skills + whenever people make that reference about some missing genital parts (which isn't specifically mentioned in the book) I can always say It rises again. Harder and Stronger..
  14. It sometimes happens to me when I use heavy explosives (rocket launchers and such), especially if it hit explosive obsticales (cars, petrol stations)... it's like a 2-3 sec lag. Other than that I never seen any lag in game.
  15. 3rd mission...hmm TD, so did you put in that Kabills ufo randomizer? or just parts of it? The thing is im encountering only scouts as for now (im happy about it) but I just met a not so friendly Harridian. One men killed. Our sniper Sentelin had his chance to get his first kill but he blew his 95% shot . Pvt TD still in sickbay.

Ok, post mission report: Type: Ligh Scout, farmland, day Killed: 4 Sebillians and 2 Gargols The mission was quite successful, everyone made it back alive... well one of our Ivans was mauled by a Gargol...but I guess he was playing dead. He will be back with us in about a month of convalescence (yes I did already build a hospital). Can't say much about enemy AI cos I surpessed most of them before they had the chance to do anything smart...however - One Sebillian was crounching before I even saw him...they would usually do that when they were involved in a skirmish ...now they seem to do it in advance. - One damn lizard threw 2 gas grenades over a shrubbery.... he had no LOS, his mates had no LOS on me, I had no LOS and I certainly didn't provoke him...like wtf was he thinking? I'm just glad those weren't alenium grenades. As for you two... Pvt Sentelin you had two assists and suffered a minor wound, good job soldier. I am hereby givin you the nick name Eales. Wear it with pride. Pvt TD. You got shot in the guts in the first turn (2 weeks leave), but you did get the lizard who shoot you with your machinegun. I am therefore giving you an extra 'N'. Giovani ---> Giovanni. Notice that with my settings you will be privates for a looong time. you have to really earn that extra stripe on your shoulder. Edit: OMG the Apollo 1vs1 are exciting. I went with the same strategy as before...except this time after the rocket hit the enemy craft, it still had 15% hp left... And when we got in cannon range...he reduced my hp to 20%. His being 6%... So i risked it and decided to make a flip...Luckly my pilot fliped in the right direction (actually the right direction was left). I got it down but I was left with 10% hp . I love the Apollo. Im wondering how it will play out when I have more of them.
  17. Yep it will work with 1.02. It works with 1.03 too. I have no idea what ACM/TRM means though.
  18. This is the max effective range you can get out of it (I still BARELY had the fuel to play out the encounter). I moved in hot on the enemy light scout and downed it with a missile. Flew back to base with 70% hp. The auto resolve settings I'm testing gave me 88% chance.   19. Oh god, I hope TD nerfed their eyesight. Androns in terror missions are the most annoying thin ever. Hopefuly I will manage to get some weapons before they start showing up. ... I got 8 research projects from my 1 mission. Lol. I think Ill now start naming my soldiers after you guys, at least I will get a chuckle out of their deaths. If anybody wants to join my brave men, give me a first/last name and optionally a nick. I'll give you feedback on how they are doing. Edit. I mean the purple things which are a rip-off of from the Alien franchise with Sigourney Weaver.
  20. If you mean the mod in general....well it is ready in a way. It's fully playable. New content will be added periodically (that is every day, every week, every month..who knows? ) ------------------ I just played my first game since xnt 3.8... (and I put on that music I found recently) and it was probably the closest thing to the sense of uncertainty and dread I experienced since x-com. Now to start. I am using a 10 men Charlie variant for my games, its balanced by the fact that I set the experience needed to gain ranks by x2 or x3 depending on rank. (A bit stronger early game and no team of captains midgame.... I don't even know how late game looks like). But even with those 10 men I barely made it through alive in the first mission. I didn't have much luck with it ... no aliens till day 18 .... i autoresolved (a 100% chance) with two concords..and true enough they shot the target (and were both shot down aswell). And the first mission a big scout. At night. Admitedlly, I didn't equip my new recruits with nades. Big mistake. But I had 5 rifleman, 3 heavy , 1 shield and 1 shotgun. I landed in a village and saw a civilian in a nearby hut. So i decided to block his exits (It's for your own safety, sir) with 5 men, I left one by the ship and moved the rest exploring. The explorers got to the enemy ship and a skirmish began. The aliens were sitting in their ship. Opening the door shooting at me (whilst I didn't have the vision cos of night time) and Chris'es patent almost killed me - CLOSING UFO DOORS. I couldn't throw in a torch cos they were all sitting and shooting from somewhere deep inside the ship and the bugger who was openning the door wasn't even going to shoot me (and get visible). It was a damn psychic who was openning the door every turn and staying hidden at the same time. Now I remember this tactic from when I played vanilla beta some time ago. Where I would open the ufo throw in nades and burst'em and then casually close the door. Now it was exactly the same thing. But they were the one doing it to me. I'm still kind of sure the psychic openning the door and staying inside was kind of an accident in the code. But if it isn't it's a damn good ai script. At least for night missions. I finally overpowered them by using heavy machineguns, nades and my shotgun..But one of my men ended up with 1 hp (lucky bastard ) and another one dead. I won this front only because the enemy had nothing else than pistols. But back at the hut... A reaper snuck back around the ship and was going for the guy guarding it. He shoot and missed. So all of my men run out of the hut to aid him...It wasnt enough and the bug was right in front of me...oh well one man dead? Nope. Fortunatelly, it died out of wounds. That was a relief. Not for long though. My phalanx positioned men ( I always form a phalanx when I see reapers) got a volley from that damn vortex thing, out of nowhere. 3 men down. Rest retreating to the ship...... Then the reaper nation attacked... Those damn things are now completely terrifing (at least in early night missions)! In 3.8 they kind of run at you and past you (I presume to hide) and then attack you in the next turn. 1) Now they don't run in front of you but try to backstab you 2) They won't wait for the 2nd turn...If they see the possiblity they just run behind you and start attacking right away. Those are some damn well written AI scripts TD, congrats. Basically the mission ended with 2 of my men alive and injured, 6 unconcious (vortex has a damn high range) and two dead. I guess it's time to prepare for mission 2. So far everything looks thrilling. ----- damn it.. Cpl Earl Teacup Flaming was among the dead. That guy looked like a mixture of Churchill and a pug (so very much the same thing). And he was British. Damn you aliens.
  21. TD probably didn't see the 1.03 patch notes yet . Im not sure whether auto-resolve will be able or not after you mod it. Our update is for the 1.02 and it therefore might re-enable autoresolve for 1.03 But even with autorelove you will probably want to not use it with Apollo. Auto resolve is damn difficult to set. I just tried it out and: Fighter vs Apollo (7 times - save /load) - 3 times I won - 3 times it was a draw (both crafts down ) - 1 time he got me in autoresolve the chance was 0% ... Then I tried a light scout (5 times save/load) - 3 times won - 2 times lost It wasn't easy. and autoresolve was proposing 71% which I think is fair.

From the first page alone..there are lots of viable ones: Day of Chaos Bent and Broken Static Motion Ice Demon Controlled Chaos - this one maybe for aircombat ?

I know the AK47 is: + easy to add (cos there are already sprites prepared) + a part of pop-culture, so extremly popular But... would you really arm the world's elite forces with AK47s? - it's reliable (though there were more reliable guns in the 70') - it has simple, sturdy mechanics (so it's easy to use and learn ....but aren't your men the worlds elite how already know how to use ANY gun ...unless you take into account the terror factor) - it is cheap (that is no concern for xenonauts) If anything, wouldn't you want to change it to an Ak74, maybe AKM at least? (or perhaps does anyone have any better kalashnikov suggestions?) Faced with an alien invasion I would personally more likealy pick something from the european arsenal, rather than a kalashnikov (provided cost wouldn't be an issue and you would have highly trained soldiers).
