I think Psionics should be more then just mind control. One thing they should emphasis in my opinion is mind tricks both as a buff for your own (imagine seeing a charging soldier who thinks he is the king of the world ) or debuff the enemy. Having it as a utility skill with gimmicks is more useful for humans who relies in versatility against the vastly superior specialized aliens. Let the aliens keep their mind control and give us something more fun. Perhaps personal levitation or the ability to throw grenades with your mind (basically not have the throw limited by your line of sight)

So much arguments... Makes me want to try settle it Regarding body armor and why they start with not wearing any. Its not silly or stupid to believe that a highly advanced lifeforms invading our planet has weapons that renders our armor a liability especially when said armor is designed for another kind of damage all together. That said once you got more insight you can start to experiment and create new materials that protects better. A reason why Airplanes fare much better could be attributed to pure distance since the alien plasma technology appears to lose allot of its effect in travel. Giving reinforced airframes might just keep the airplane together while its getting peppered to swizz cheese. Being extremely hard to identify on radar (someone said 1% every minute) would make radar guidance in a moving scenario impossible. Especially for pre programmed software. Regarding funding. At the start of the invasion there is probably allot of confusion about what is happening and not to mention people are desperate for solutions. The Xenonaut project is probably just one in a thousand different organizations that promises to deal with the situation. Also as time passes and the Xenonaut project shows itself to maybe be the only (however it might not be) one with any real effect it also becomes apperant that the alien invaders is not out to extinct humanity and scared people in power might turn their heads more and more at the idea of subjugating themselves by/or not giving resistance resulting in the wrath of the invaders.
