  1. I give my vote to the original XCom. I did not like the atmosphere in the other 2 'true' XCom's like the first one. And the XCom Reboot from Firaxis, not classic XCom but it's actually quite fun and worth grabbing on sale for sure.
  2. The 2nd game I ever bought was UFO: Aftermath. Loved that game. As a kid I always latched onto those UFO investigation shows, and knew the lingo like the 'dreamland files' and all that when I was little. Literally, UFO: Aftermath was the reason I bought my first video card, a 5500FX. Installed the card, the video test ran smooth, I smiled, and had a great experience. I pre-ordered Aftershock, the sequel, and put up with it's Starforce crap but eventually that was patched out. I will say Aftershock was my favorite of the 3, Afterlight was still good but it went way too cartooney for me to like since I expected the grittiness of Aftermath and super-grittiness of Aftershock. My opinion, buy all 3 from GOG.com. But remember, I played Aftermath and Aftershock before finding the first XCom on Abandonia (back before companies starting sending lawyer-threats) and I have fond memories of those games. I am always happy playing that series, and counting Original War being one of the greatest RTS's of all time it's a shame Altar Games went under as abruptly as they did. My favorite games for a decade were made by that company.
  3. Space Empires 4 and Space Empires 5 are my two favorites. Really, they are the standard to which modern Space 4x's should be held to. Not as messy as MOO2 in interface, lots of ship parts customization, etc. Those games have it all. You can get them on Steam, I actually have SE5 on disc. For real. But, big but, SE5 only works for me on WinXP. Runs super slow on newer OS's. I am lucky to still have my older 2.5GHz dual-core gaming rig still running with XP Pro and a 9500GT, mid-grade card for it's day. SE4 oddly runs well on even modern PC's. It might be stretched a little at certain resolutions at it was made for 1024x768, but it's still fun. Seriously. If you have not played SE4 or SE5, you do not know what space 4x games really are. Cannot say it enough, out of all the games that attempted to be a space 4x that I tried (my list is much larger than yours) I have to say SE4 is what should be in the dictionary as a description of what a space 4x should try to be.
  4. Confirmed. Just downloaded V19_Stable from the Humble Bundle store. I tried to unzip it with 7zip and it would not work. Error message is "Can not open file *directory of file here* as archive" EDIT: Also this needs to be in like tech support, but that section seems to be only for game bugs. This isn't a bug with the game itself, it seems Humble Bundle got a bad file.
  5. If you can't lean you can do like I do and scoot soldiers back from the corner a little at a time to see slightly more of what is around the corner. If the corner goes around East to North, put a soldier one or two blocks from the corner then go south a block or two then look North. Still the chance of an Alien getting a snapshot on you the moment it sees you but you will be further away at least. This also works well with a few soldiers. I first developed this technique in XCom when trying to get a solid method of tossing grenades around corners with minimal risk.

  7. Name of title says it all. I do not like using Steam especially on my older PC and I use the direct download of the game from the Humble Bundle website, but they only have the v18 stable download. I haven't been able to find where I can download an updater or a patch so I'm wondering, how am I supposed to get v19 stable and it's hotfixes without using Steam?
