1. What about installing Steam in Wine and then use it to download the beta version? I'll just wait for the official V19 but someone on the forums mentioned doing something like this..
2. Yes, I was able to launch alien base missions and they never failed when loading (I have had occasional crashes during combat, though, when most of the aliens were already dead and of course the saves didn't work, either...). V18 stable on OpenSUSE 12.3
3. No, beta builds will not be available through Steam for Linux and Mac. You can get them from Desura (and that other store), but only the stable experimental builds. Windows users get the minor updates as well
4. One question: it is mentioned in the Cesian (I think?) autopsy that these aliens are so similar to humans that it cannot be a coincidence. But this rather chilling observation doesn't lead anywhere, does it? Or have I missed something?
5. I don't think outer UFO doors should be destructible: if those things can survive atmosphere entry and direct alenium air-to-air torpedo hits, they shouldn't crumble when hit by a hand held RPG.
6. There is a whole novella included? Like in the good old days when one would get a whole book in the game box, not just the CD and maybe a crappy action figurine if one pays an enormous extra amount of cash? I love you guys!
7. Ah well doesn't matter, I'm spending way too much time playing V18 as it is, I should just tell myself to wait a bit for the next build (currently some crashes are getting annoying) I do hope any crash reports I/we might find won't be too outdated if all Linux/Mac players are on the stable version while you guys are steaming ahead with the experimental builds..
8. Did you copy the game from a Windows computer with Steam installed? That would be a problem for me as I am windowless I could install Steam under Wine I guess, but in that case I may just wait for the next stable build. Will the stable version of V19 be available from Desura?
9. I have access to the Desura store, but it only has V18. Is there no way then to get the latest builds?
10. Update: I checked Steam log files and they contain the following (app 223830 is Xenonauts as other lines from the same log file indicate, I presume 223833 is the experimental branch's ID? Or a typo in a config file causing the whole thing to fail in the first place?): [2013-07-23 09:32:45] Scheduler update appID 223830: Priority First, legacy=no, restore=""[2013-07-23 09:32:45] AppID 223830 state changed : 0x00000102 = Update Required,Update Running,[2013-07-23 09:32:45] AppID 223830 state changed : 0x00010102 = Update Required,Update Running,Reconfiguring,[2013-07-23 09:32:45] Missing encrypted manifest section for depotID 223833[2013-07-23 09:32:45] Invalid manifest for depotID 223833, branch "Experimental", skipping depot It then switches to the non-experimental branch and happily concludes that the game is installed (as the stable branch contains no files), providing no error message. Maybe you guys have an error in Steam's Linux manifest?
11. Hey guys, anyone have success getting the latest betas from Steam on Linux? I downloaded the Desura version (and I'm having a blast playing it!) but I'd love to test the newer builds as well, especially as I'm reading about shields, grenade fixes and other goodies here on the forums I entered the access code for betas and chose the Experimantal branch, but still no content gets downloaded. I tried removing and reinstalling the game, but no luck. Has anyone had more success?
12.

Welcome to the forums!

13. Oh and about the permissions: I gave read permission to all files and execute permission to all folders in the assets subfolder and now I can play as non-root.
14. This game is so good and brings back so many memories I got goosebumps several times while playing it I did get another crash though, when I was viewing the newly researched land vehicle. 15. Update: I checked the assets folder in /opt/xenonauts and it had the wrong permissions. I tried running the game as root and it started up! Gonna try playing it now
