  1. The soldiers feel a bit generic and that's not really helped by the experience system. I agree that it would be nice to have a bit of specialization, but not so much that all soldiers are single role. One possibility would be to split accuracy into multiple attributes so you have a base accuracy and several modifiers. So if you had accuracy 50, rifles +10, machine guns +0, you would have accuracy 60 with the assault rifle, and 50 with the machine gun. I could see this working with the categories of grenade, pistol, shotgun, rifle, machine gun, precision rifle, rocket launcher. All the weapons from other tiers are equivalent to one of these. This would tie into the existing experience system. If you make several successful hits with a shotgun, instead of gaining accuracy +2, you might gain accuracy +1, shotgun +1.
  2. Answering my own question - I found a way to look this up. Navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Xenonauts\assets" (or your equivalent steam path) and look at the file weapons_gc.xml. This is human readable in a text editor.
  3. I had four hangers in my base, one for a dropship and three for interceptors and I was on the screen showing interceptors. The top hanger had a Condor. The middle hanger had a partially built Foxtrot. The bottom hanger was empty. I clicked the bottom hanger and it showed the option to buy a Condor, but the whole game froze at this point. I was going to end task it but when I pressed Ctrl-Alt-Delete the game crashed. I got the following in my Event Log: Faulting application name: xenonauts.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x51a76ec0 Faulting module name: xenonauts.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x51a76ec0 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x0001b3cc Faulting process id: 0x10ec Faulting application start time: 0x01ce730e7de4f337 Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Xenonauts\xenonauts.exe Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Xenonauts\xenonauts.exe Report Id: 316af57c-df05-11e2-a4f1-d027887ecb6a
  4. There was a Sebillion inside a building on one of the Middle East maps. I knew he was in there and had a heavy waiting to suppress (or kill) him. Also a rifleman was waiting to run to the window, shoot, and run away again. However for the heavy to get line of sight I had to open a door. Another rifleman was well placed to do so. So I run up to the door and there's the yellow icon to open the door, but I can't work out how to use it. The only way I could open it was to move one space in and then move back out again. This extra movement used up TUs that could have been used for getting the hell out of there before my heavy fires his incredibly inaccurate burst (a danger to friend and foe alike). It also might have contributed to triggering the reaction fire which took him down to 3HP (and due to bleeding was 1HP by the time I got someone in to heal him). My questions are: How can you open the door without moving in and out of the room? Why could he reaction fire? I thought you had to use a certain amount of TU while in their sight, but all I did while he could see me was move a couple of squares. Could I have avoided reaction fire here? Or could I have been safer if the rifleman shot from the window first as his cover would be better? Can the aliens (or the Xenonauts) take multiple reaction shots in a turn?
  5. Thanks for the reply. As it happens I've abandoned that save but will use the advice for the next one. Unfortunately I misjudged the timing of a terror mission and got there slightly too early and had to do it at night. Having never lost more than two soldiers in a mission before in this mission I'd lost most of my soldiers in the first few turns. Most of them were one shot killed by aliens I couldn't even see. In the end I lost the whole squad, got annoyed, and deleted the save. I need to be more careful about day/night in future.
  6. I've just finished my second month and I am still using basic equipment for ground combat (with the exception of grenades). I was going to upgrade to lasers and wolf armour (I have wolf and jackal researched and am currently researching the jump armour). However, when I looked at the costs they were very expensive. So a few questions: Does anyone know the stats (damage, range, weight, clip size, etc) for laser weapons? Do the laser weapons have the same firing options and TU costs as the equivalent ballistic weapons? Just how much does armour protect you and how much does it weigh? If a soldier dies do you lose his or her equipment? I think the wiki is wrong. It says of the laser rifle "Compared to the Ballistic Rifle, it is more powerful and has a longer range, but has a smaller clip and is heavier." But states the range as 20 and the range of the Assault Rifle as 180. This is clearly not longer range. Lastly, I am confused by the Hunter Scout car. Three (I think) missions in a row it was destroyed, but a new 100% health one was there for the next mission. After that it was gone and I built a new one. Is this intended behaviour or a bug?
  7. Hello, just bought the game on Steam (yesterday) and am currently on my first playthrough. I'm Andy and I'm a Software Developer from London. I somehow managed to miss the original X-COM (not sure how, I was an avid games player at the time and it's the sort of game I would have played) but have played X-COM:EU extensively (166 hours according to Steam). I was putting off buying Xenonauts as I don't normally buy early access games - I have a tendency to play them to death and not come back to them when they are then complete. However as I couldn't find any new games I liked and was playing old games such as X-COM:EU and Fallout New Vegas, both of which I'm now bored of, so I broke my rule and bought this.
