  1. It would add difficulty, but it would also create some interesting choices and definitely make the air combat more interesting.
  2. I'm not really looking for difficulty, I/I is enough of that. This is more looking for something fun that shakes up how the game is played.
  3. Hey guys, just wondering what all people have done out there in terms of special "house rules" challenges. Has anyone done a run with something like all ballistics, no explosives, or some other self-imposed challenge like that? I've been toying with the idea of doing another non-I/I playthrough if I manage to finish Long War a couple months before XCOM 2 comes out and I'm rather liking the idea of an all shotgun challenge. I played around with it for a couple hours a few days ago, and it seems to be fairly viable although I found myself doing some counter-intuitive things like taking advantages to changes in CE and doing shotgun overwatch camping a couple times. It also really flipped things upside down because my map preference is opposite of normal and I found myself avoiding the desert maps I normally loved for the big open spaces in favor of industrial maps. I also wound up with base upgrades and hyperwave decoders in like November, which was nice but weird.
  4. Opening any menu pauses time, space bar sets speed to the lowest speed.
  5. What they actually teach is staying out of each other's firing lanes, which is something you totally control.
  6. Thanks, and no I'm not planning on adding my kids to the campaign. I thought about doing something for my older daughter's birthday back in March, but it just didn't feel right to me to add them in game.
  7. I'm sure some of you have noticed that updates have been coming slower for the past few weeks. I have a new daughter, which is great but until she starts sleeping more at night my gaming time has been cut pretty harshly. I plan on finishing this campaign still, but I'm dragging out my updates to try to delay going radio silent for a prolonged period. [video=youtube_share;K72ZtPvFyCk]

  9. Those missions had a couple moments where they could have gone bad. I can bully the aliens most of the time, but losing soldiers still hurts a lot. I'm actually just waiting for an Overseer to show up where I can kill it and then planning on sprinting to the Temple Ship. In future episodes I reach the point where I build extra plasma weapo s and armor purely because I have excess resources.

  11. You might find this useful, it's what Chris wrote up about Xenonauts' development. http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=5036&d=1405853502

  13. I just use on ground team, and invest heavily in controlling the skies. Aliens can't assault a base if they can't get to it.

  16. Floater autopsy is actually behind Alien Biocybernetics, which is fairly annoying since there's no reason to get it until you're heading for MECs. I'm just grateful that I've never seen the CCS/launch combo used against me because that would be fairly rage inducing, and Long War already has plenty of other frustrating combos.
  17. Ah, I just can't read and totally missed that on the SS.
  18. I wonder what his nickname is. [video=youtube_share;qCfHo97H-yw]

    Xcom 2

That will probably depend on how hard it is to pull off. I'm guessing it'll be relatively easy to get a minor edge, with more involved options for stronger ones.

    Xcom 2

I think they'll have a similar research system, and just tweak numbers for balance. Not researching more advanced tech and building/acquiring it would be such a massive change that it would be shocking if they cut it. New day, new article: http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/02/xcom-2-welcoming-our-new-alien-overlords Short version is XCOM got stomped and never developed advanced tech in the first game, and was forced into hiding.
  21. It was my own fault for not paying close enough attention to where they went. I can at least not be too annoyed because I could have avoided it by playing better. Telling me I'm not using/abusing mines enough is a fair criticism. Over the last few sessions I've started using them more and more. I actually chopped two more rocketeers for moar mine spam. Xcom 2

I like the idea and I'm pretty pumped for this. The only thing so far that is keeping my hype level from overloading is the mention of stealth mechanics. That will either be a great addition, or complete BS.
  23. Alien bases can have multiple power cores, the actual number depends on the base size.

  25. I felt the same way about scouts for a long time, but now I've reached a point where I have so many scanners available that those and MECs take over the scouting role, plus B14 means they don't have concealment and holotargeting is less important because I can scope stack. Plus MECs are more tanky and harder to hit than in 15, which further reduces my need for scouts. In B15 though I totally get using scouts more, especially since chameleon suit actually works.
