  1. Without reading the back ground I look at it like this, XCOM was formed after first contact to be a multinational alien swatting team, you are funded by all nations and if you cant protect them they strip you of that funding and opt out of the XCOM project to either take the aliens on themselves or to join with them to try and save there own asses. Gonna read what its really all about at some point...
  2. I aint too hot on air combat either yet, keep gettin me migs shot down and that slows my progress but before all my bases are fully fuctional (normally 3 or 4) I hit a crash bug and it kills my game, gonna try the work around soon and have another go. To save migs I am currently just ignoring ufo's with escorts, I say currently I dont have it installed atm but will again soon.
  3. Ascendancy is a galaxtic empire game: colonizing planets, building ships, researching new technologies and that sort of stuff, its a real easy game to get into you can micro manage every planet if you like or auto manage any or all of them, ship movement is purely operator controlled. Published by the Logic factory and appeared in abandonware for quite some time, its now been removed because it has recently been converted to IOS but not android or other os's, ascendancy 2 will be coming out 'shortly' but I doubt that day will ever arrive, I personally think goldhawk could make a much better game of similar type.
  4. Any chance of an ascendancy game next, that was awesome, not just a planet but a galaxy to conquer. After X-Com this is the next most played old skool game I play and re-play time and time again.
  5. I thought you could edit these XML files with notepad, am I wrong? (notepad displays them but a bit messy, do they still work if saved in notepad?)
  6. For the lazy: http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/3387-V16-1-Crash-on-farm-map/page6 Gonna try this myself as soon as I download again...
  7. This sort of impatience makes me giggle, any software developer wants to produce the end product as quickly as possible while taking time to make the product appealing, software development is a nasty process of time and money with more time costs more money but with less time makes less money and the balance lays in the heart of of its creators. 8. I normally setup multiple bases as early as possible so I can take on as much as possible, I found this to be the best stategy in the original game. I hope like The_Mess wants that this is editable and still editable in the final release, an invasion should/could mean mulitple landings accross the globe, ufo's everywhere, not quite like the firaxis concept where action can be few and far between. Days since last sighting: 88, lets get drunk and play cards men (soldiers of mixed sex)
  9. I heard the beta may come in November, a good time would be second week in December so we all get an early Chriss mass present and you can do the best magic you can to get it ready and gift wrapped for us , you also might want to think about a PO box so we can all send you alien grenades, medpacks n stuff. If you had a PO box I'd send you summit good for the festive period for sure! Would it be possible for a soldier editor so we can put santa hats on the squad commanders, JK.
  10. Rock on Rikaze, it all sounded like you had an idea to me but I also dont have a clue...
  11. I find it difficult to save in ironman mode so I go with the flow, I noticed a couple of times while training greens if you send a couple of greens with the rest not quite so green the mission is easier, I noticed this as to make my second run through more interesting I only trained up my UK guys, I have a full squad of 15 uk soldiers including two psi phreaks, this took about 200-300 recruits sacking all others, if I was a scott I would only have scottish soldiers and if US only US soldiers etc etc, it was just to make it a little more fun oh and my vets almost always make back alive, havent played on higher level than normal so far and I doubt I will, hard and insane difficulties are for racing games and fps's in my book. Just had a memory return from playing the original game on CD32, used to make a cuppa while the aliens were having their turn it took so long, or watch a bit of telly or roll a j anything to pass the time till my next turn.
  12. Hi, I am sorry to hear about your troubles and congratulations on your first born, hope everything goes well and hope your wife is better now or at least far on the road to recovery. I am so glad I pre ordered the premium package as the novella will be a great addition, I thank you for writing this for us and hope you enjoy the finished game as much as I will enjoy reading your work. All the best to you and your family. Master Armadillo....
  13. Thanks mate, I now have a much better solution to the rather drastic stance I had, I am a terrible insomniac and sometime I cant see the wood for the trees. Updated my stupid post.
  14. Beta I meant alpha, its all the same to me, pre release... Yep I am a weird armadillo and yes I was being a bit thick, I have updated that post, abandon the game but not the project, now I have a plan there is no way I'll abandon the game, my skint mate can go get a job and buy a copy for himself if he want it lol.
  15. I wanna be able to eat all those dots before the ghost gets me, waka waka waka
  16. Fraxis XCOM Enemy Unknown What I could be arsed to say before: Love the graphics it looks realy pretty, not everybodies taste but I like it alot The ant farm base is brilliant I love zooming in and seeing that nothing is actually going on but you can see great detail and watch Alien interigation well the start, I like the way the Aliens stay in the chamber looking all glum n stuff. I like the perks that you get when choosing your base location etc etc. I did not like the limited base locations. I realy did not like only having one base. I did not like the small squad limited to a maximum of six. I did not like the soldier equipment screen, very limited and the addition of a fixed class for each soldier is a bust. I loved playing it but once finished it has little return appeal, I have started another game becasue I didn't get enough downed UFO missions. I did not like the way you can complete the game in two days/sittings (probably one if my wife would have let me). As mentioned above I also did not like not being able to pick up stuff in mission. I realy didn't like the way aliens were handled when you uncovered them, they tend to run off out of sight or take cover etc. I realy did not like the way the missions came up, three abductions and you choose one I did not like the slow motion actions it messes with the turns flow. I did not like the way you heard aliens so you could tell where to go, spoils the tension (not all of them do this I know) it was a good idea but I didn't like it. The dificulty level is a bit odd too it starts of quite difficult and gets easier? Where are the base attacks, alien and allied? The last mission is also a bust, a big disapointment in my opinion. No UFO pedia. (Erm yes ther is its just call something different, soz) Limited research, no research for alien entertainment of surgery etc. I did not like the way the game handles multi level ufos often meaning you have to spin your view point round to move a soldier on an upper level if the view had a lower level behind it (If you get what I mean), when you have to do this with almost each soldier in a number of turns it get frustrating. All in all I liked the game but it was a serious disapointment because it didn't fill the gap to the release of Xenonauts. According to steam I played the new game for 88 hours and was well bored of it by the end (some of wich was spent idle while I was else where). I played the original for 241 hours and have never finished it (I finished it on the Amiga but that time spend is not logged with steam) I would be interested in what you guys liked and disliked about the game being original xcom fans n all.
  17. Dammit your right it was XCOM: UFO Enemy Unknown in the uk for the Amiga CD32 any ways Yes I like the Xeno graphics I have nothin against them they fit the game real well my comment was that they wern't as pretty as todays big publishers do, they tend to spend the money on the graphics and leave the game play short, what I was looking for when I found xenonauts was a great looking up to date version of my ole fav game, playing the original is hard on the eyes where as the graphics of Xenonauts meets exactly to my expectations and thus I backed the project without hesitation. Additional: I found the tile sets for ufo's and crashed ufo's to be awesome along with the static screens, the graphics guys can produce far better material than I could, big publisher tend to make things all 3d when they dont need to be.
  18. Armadillo's like LMG's even with the 45ap cost to shoot em
  19. I had version v16, with the stuck in the whirlybird issue, then read about the issue and re-downloaded v16 and it worked so it was updated but took a couple of days, this led to a little confusion of the name but not an issue I noticed the file size was a little different. My reason for leaving it for a while now is the long time to move about issue that not many people will be fussed about, also I notice a lot more work done when I have left it for a while. I had the desura client installed but I didn't like that so it's now removed, space is the big issue on my PC i opted for a small but very fast SSD and moved my raided drives to mass storage (internal sata d: drive not usb connected) to move my games back n forth as and when wanted em (its not recomended but I know what I'm doing) for example I moved BF3 at 15 gigs to install ufo:eu, it only took a few minutes but to remove and redownload will take 45mins or more, as for xenonauts it takes a while to download for sure but it takes just as long to move it to storage so I now just delete it and try not to burden desura with too many full downloads. Oh and it also takes ages to un rar due to the large number of files, this isn't really a big issue to most and while a little annoying to me I will still back this project to the end even if this issue isn't resolved, if not resolved at final release I may just give my copy away but dont be disheartend about that it will be my loss and my rather skint friends gain. I only get a few minutes here and there to play games and if I want to play 'game a' and its not ready to play then I need to make it ready in the shortest time possible, not happy when my time is up and I havent played anything. take CSS or CS:GO for example I may have the need to kill a load of people but I only have a 15 min smoke break, takes two minutes to copy back from mass storage and Im on and killing but for xenonauts by the time its copied I'll only have a five minute bash and its a third the size. must not grumble the work being done here is great, big up the project! Update: As I have update and posted in another thread I am just being thick, I have multiple PC's that can run this game why did I think I would want it on my such restricted gaming PC (can only play while having a smoke break or when the mrs has gone to bed), you can have 300k files now for all I care I'll keep and play the game more on another PC! sorry for being a worry mutten thick head!
  20. Stategy is a PC genre that sometimes makes its way onto console, My original XCOM game was on a Commadore CD 32, I then got a PC and re-purchased the game along with terror from the deep and quite a few other games that really requires a mouse I also had advance wars on my nintendo hand held thingy and a couple more strategy games on various consoles but a revival is a bit far fetched. PC gaming is falling away and while it's a long way from the end of PC gaming the fact remains less games will reach the PC as the years go by
  21. Ah this explains why the direct download is out of date compaired to the desura client install, I'm not downloading for a while either way as the 80k files just takes too long to move about. I hope this is sorted as I do realy like the game.
  22. Sorry dude but exception is the rule, while we may say that in general women are out numbered by men in the worlds armed forces can you state that every squad in every army has this rule? While you say that men are generally stronger than women and that generally speaking this may be correct but can you say that a group of random people wouldn't have more stronger women than men? Like I say, sorry dude but the answer to both is no This is a big planet with billions of human inhabitants the chances of three women in one squad being stronger may be slim but to say its unrealistic is very short sighted indeed, you have been watching too much telly or you havent been out in the real world long enough to see that everything like this is not just possible but mostley exists. Pigs have four legs: fact - not true, I have seen with my own eyes a pig with not four, not eight but twelve legs, it didn't last long but it was a single pig with twelve legs it's unrealistic but true. (The pig was here in the uk, the farmer was aquainted with my farther but thats all the information I have, I was a little boy at the time approximately 35 years ago.)
