  1. B-but, I liked alien entertainment ;-; Seriously, one of main reasons I play XCOM type games IS research text, which makes me sad when games stream line research texts to just explaining extra benefits you get instead of being immersive.(though, to my luck, only UFO: Exterrestials and UFO: Afterlight do that. And at least Exterrestials have longer pages for alien autopsies even though every weapon one has short explanation why you got technology and just tells how strong it is, same thing in Afterlight expect that none of research are as detailed as in Aftermath) Which is why I like "pointless" research that do nothing but give you info about aliens and such Which is why I'm annoyed that EVERY Xcom clone gets rid of "Capture live alien to get its own research page" thing. I guess XCOM fans are too annoyed at having to capture every hard to capture alien. I mean, UFO: Exterrestials you have to only capture commanders and they just give you plot related research texts you need to complete the game, in UFO Aftermath live transgenants just speed up research(and some aren't even capturable), though for reticulans it works because they are only actual aliens in the game so it makes sense that you only get plot related intergration one. In Aftershock they again don't have live alien ones besides plot ones I think, in Afterlight capture ones are necessary for getting new technology, but Afterlight research texts aren't as detailed as Aftershock and Aftermath, they just tell benefits of research and sometimes rarely bit info about WHY research gives you that benefits.(Like Beastman Shaman explains that they do rituals and healers and stuff, which is why you get medical research unlocks from capturing them, but doesn't tell anything about beastmen shamans actually) In UFO: Alien Invasion you don't get any alien specific research, you just need to capture enough aliens(capturing certain number of aliens unlocks more research, but I think species don't matter) to figure out that aliens have hive mind. In Xenonauts... Well, can't tell since I don't think we can currently capture aliens But yeah, am I really only one who enjoys research for sake of immersion and for not getting new stuff? Was I only one who enjoyed capturing all aliens in original games?
  2. So would driver of hunter die when hunter is damaged but not destroyed or only if vehicle is blown up? If driver dies simply from hunter getting damaged but not wreckage getting blowed up, it would give you reason to not sacrifice hunter and then just save wreckage so you can repair it
  3. Am I only one who actually likes fluff text for sake of fluff text?
  4. Speaking of islands, am I only one who finds it hard to place base on islands? I mean, islands seem to have rather small "hitbox". Same thing about edges of countries that are still not clearly on sea.
  5. Please don't derail conversation to discussing alien origins.(But since we just talked about that, please don't make aliens to be hive mind by viruses/microbi, Apocalypse and UFO: Alien Invasion does that)
  6. Xenonauts is ONLY game on Desura that has problems with updating for me Every other game works fine so please don't blame Desura for it. Though yeah, I guess its because Xenonauts is rather huge game since most Desura games are obscure indie titles so they don't need much time validating and stuff.
  7. Well, Xenopedia says that aliens have thousands of ships in their fleet, right? So let's say some really patient player decides to keep playing instead of completing final mission to destroy mothership or whatever, at some point his ufo count will go to thousands right? Well, yeah, I'm suggesting that there should be easter egg that comes if you shoot down all ufos of alien fleet Alternatively, if war again aliens takes years(or you are just really efficient), aliens decide to retreat. That or they decide "Screw it" and blow up earth with alien version of nukes. Of course, to not make game time based, maybe limit should be something like ten years before getting alternate game over, I think it should be easter egg or something and not something you need to worry about.(Or maybe alternate game over years should be 2012 or 2013 if Xenonauts isn't released this year Alternatively, if player keeps destroying lots of UFO, just have there be even involving aliens getting reinforcements. Again, just to explain why they still have UFO. Of course, I doubt anyone plays long enough to destroy that many ufo, but I'd think it be nice easter egg.
  8. I'm probably going to donate at least a dollar at some point Mainly because I don't have money to donate much, but I still want to donate
  9. Huh. UFO: Alien Invasion is planning to add skills to pilots at some points. But yeah, while having pilots to be employable might be nice, it isn't really needed.
  10. Hey Chris, would you happen to know if anybody from Finland has donated to get their nationality in game? I don't myself have money to donate that much. I'm not really patriotic or anything (I don't really ever put bases in Finland except as joke), but there IS certain novelty in being able to have chars from same country as yourself. Honestly, thats probably the reason why 200 tier is so popular. I mean, its only one with nationality in game, right? You could have put nationality in game to lower tiers considering that it basically just amounts to text anyway.
  11. Well, if you have underground base in desert or iceberg, you could do some visual ef- Oh wait, Xenonauts and other XCOM type games don't show any ground on bases =/ I guess it could work on XCOM: Enemy Unknown with their ant farm base, they could have entrance have terrain of where you put base and have ground next to base facilities change... But they'll probably just have one fixed location for the base Maybe base could have its own icon depending on location its put into? Like those drawn pics in xenopedia and such?
  12. Still, I would like something that makes bases feel unique based on their location. I mean, whats point of secret Antarctica base when its useless because it doesn't cover any useful area with radar?... Even if there aren't any bonuses to bases, it would be nice if during base attacks there would be something that visually separates them or at least you get more recruits from country you put base in in those bases.
  13. Yeah, oil rigs missions would be awesome and it would be nice to have reason to have radar coverage over sea even if it doesn't make sense why aliens don't just bomb the rig.
  14. I tend to put bases all over the world , even on Antarctica. Sometimes I even put one in Finland because I live there. But honestly, its kind of bummer how base location in the end amounts to only just "What is good location for radars?" and "Where are UFO going to fly by the most?" =/ There should be bonuses based on location or something just so there would be SOMETHING good in creating secret Antarctica base.
  15. Yet I prefer Apocalypse to it For example, one problem I have about first XCOM is that countries really have no face. I mean, they are just funders. You lose them, you lose money. Corporations in Apocalypse had personality and backstory even though gameplay wise they aren't really that different beyond providing different services and having different buildings, but they still were distinct. I guess if they had had feature to capture humans and other stuff they were planning they would have been better done. Anyway, when country falls under alien control in original game, they just cut your funding. When corporation falls under alien control in Apocalypse, they assault your base and attack you with vehicles and such. In original game countries had no other purpose than being source of funding.
  16. Thats something I've been confused about, unlike most cult games, almost every gamer knows about XCOM and it makes it seem like its not cult series but series that is popular and such. So why there haven't been "Follow the leader" phenomena with it? You can easily find all XCOM like games from XCOM series wikipedia page, but most of them are XCOM fan games and other ones are either Laser Squad/Rebelstar or two some game I've never heard of.(Incubation(part of Battle Isle series, fourth game apparently) and some game with zombies or something)
  17. @Gauddlike: This game DOES have greys apparently. @Gorlom: Yeah, but spines are... Okay, I don't know what material spines are made of, but they usually aren't red. Anyway, I'm not complaining that I find it "unrealistic", I'm just wondering about design choice, why did they choose to do that decision? @Hellstormer: Yeaaaaah, that reminds me of times I asked Elder Scroll fans "Argonians are lizard people. So why the frick female ones have breasts?" and they just answered "Its fictional fantasy race." ;P
  18. Yeah, but I still have seen some posting that indicate that posters want game to BE UFO: Enemy Unknown. Admittedly, mainly on other sites and such. Edit: Though, now that I thought about it, I guess reason why I so strongly dislike idea of remake of original game is that... Well, both UFO: Alien Invasion and Xenonauts ARE fan remakes of original games and I've heard some people do the "My dream has come true, there is true successor to XCOM!" speech, so my dislike to "True successor" thing has become subconsciously connected with idea of remake of original game that is "true to it" =/ Like only way to be "True successor" is to be "Remake of original with better interface/graphics/few new features" if you understand what I'm trying to say. Of course, I could be wrong because I'm not psychologist or anything, but thats what it seems like. Anyway, whatever the case is, thankfully neither UFO: Alien Invasion or Xenonauts are going to be exact remake of original game with different paint.
  19. I was talking about official XCOM remakes, some people express opinion that XOM: Enemy Unknown should be same as original XCOM but with prettier graphics. Really, some people are suggesting that Xenonauts should be as close to original as possible, why else one question in FAQ is "Will this game have Chrysalids?" That and there is 1:1 remake thread by that guy who wants underwater missions for some reason.
  20. I do normally actually hate "If remake is same as original with few new things, whats the point" argument, but XCOM is series that was while ago thought to be "dead" because of crappy sequels that have nothing to do with original three. Those kind of series need new games instead of old games remade. Series can't survive if it doesn't get new fans and its hard to get new fans by just remaking old game for old fans.
  21. Agreed on that forcing players to build multiple bases with resource limitations is too artificial way to make people use multiple bases. Bonuses might work better if bonuses are good enough. Even if bonuses won't give people good reason to put bases at different points, it would be nice to have some reason to actually put base other locations than high population centers and place with most radar cover on land, like base on Antarctica. I mean seriously, I put base there in XCOM because I liked idea of cool secret base, but on practical side there was no use for it besides for intercepting few passing by ufos.
