  1. Is the telefrag element what controls aliens being able to teleport onto and kill someone standing on a teleport pad? I like the community edition for the most part but I find that annoying. Being able to block the pads and collect the team around them is the best way to counter the aliens camping the other end.
  2. I thought of that but considering the fighters don't sacrifice themselves against other missiles, decided that wasn't it. It is a cool image though. Although since the singularity torpedo reduces everything within 5 km to atoms, the sacrifice would be in vain unless it somehow intercepted a missile going mach 15 before it got within 5 km of the battleship. Does anyone else using the main branch have this problem?
  3. If I send a Fury after a ship with escorts it only takes out one escort. First off why waste the singularity missile on an escort, it should always target the main ship? Second, from the description it sounds like the missile should destroy all three anyway. Is this how it is supposed to work? If so it is almost worthless. The only real need for a Fury is to take out escorted battleships. I can make short work of unescorted ones. With escorted ones there is a chance of running out of ammo or getting damaged. Considering all the money, time and resources needed to make one, they should be able to take out escorted battleships. Other than that, awesome game.
  4. Just wanted to thank the dev team for an awesome game. It truly is the remake of X-com that I have been waiting for all these years. It has the right improvements to fix the original's short comings, flavor changes to make it a new experience, yet is similar enough to the original to feel like I am playing a sequel.
  5. Awesome! Can't wait to play the final game. Congrats on all the hard work paying off Chris and team.
  6. Yes, you get a digital copy plus two of your choice of: T-shirt, poster, digital copy of Xenonauts Art Book or box copy. It is the reward I took and plan on the tshirt and box copy.
  7. I assume you are refering to the recent Hollywood version of U571. As an American, I apologize for Hollywood. My guess is they thought more Americans would watch it, if it was about Americans. Considering how popular James Bond movies are, I don't know why they would think that, but they rewrite history for strange reasons all the time. The sad part is many Americans get their history from movies, so as far as they know, the movie is accurate. At least I know what really happened if that makes you feel any better.
  8. So if I donate $20 on kickstarter to bump my existing pledge to $50, should I not select any reward tier, or should I pick the $20 tier?
  9. Happy Holidays all. Thanks for all the hard work devs. The game is looking good. I also want to thank all the members of the community that are playtesting. I have playtested other games in the past, but in the case of Xenonauts I am being selfish and waiting for the final release to play it. This is one game I don't want to spoil.
  10. Extra penetration doesn’t do you any good if you get into a prolonged firefight or multiple ones before you can resupply and you run out of ammo. You go through ammo quick, especially if someone is foolish enough to fire on full auto. Full auto is generally a waste of ammo. It is really only good for suppressive fire. This really isn’t the forum for discussing military strategy. However I will say that the problems in Afghanistan and Iraq have to do more with fighting against an insurgency and less to do with the penetration of the 5.56mm round. When the military has something to shot at, they do well. If they need the extra penetration sometimes called for in urban combat, they have the M240 medium machine gun, M203 grenade launcher, and AT4 carried with them and the M2HB heavy machine gun and Mk19 automatic grenade launcher mounted on their vehicles. Not to mention other support like snipers with Barrett M82s and heavier things they can call in. Anyway, back to game talk. Speaking of the ma-deuce (M2HB), it would be cool if the machineguns on the vehicles looked like them. The M2 has been the workhorse heavy machinegun of the US for over 90 years. Its continued use for so long speaks to its great design and it is arguably one of the best heavy machine gun designs ever. In fact I think a large majority of the countries in the world use it now days. Having Mk19s in the game would be cool as well, but I think an automatic grenade launcher would be hard to balance..
  11. I think the Sayeret, Israeli Special Forces, has women.
  12. Well, I wasn't implying that the game should use a system like this. It was just meant to be informative. For the game I like the idea of the player controlling the ranks.
  13. The Ak47 and the M16 are both good weapons, but they have their differences. The M16 has better long range accuracy (550 meters effective range on a point target vs 400 in burst and 300 in full auto for the ak47), while the Ak47 has better penetration due to the heavy 7.62mm rounds. However this also means that a soldier can carry less rounds. Assuming 10kg of ammo is carried: Ak47 = 10 - 30 round magazines( 300 rounds) (.92 kg ea for a total of 9.2kg) M16 = 22 - 30 round magazines ( 660 rounds) (.45 kg ea for a total of 9.9kg) Very early M16s had reliability problems, but by 1979, when the game is set, these problems had been resolved. While it can't take the extreme abuse an ak47 can, it is a reliable combat weapon. So as I said they both have their advantages. I'll take the m16 with its better accuracy and being able to carry over twice the ammo. The 5.56mm rounds have plenty of stopping power. However if someone took the ak47 with its better penetration and ability to be buried in mud and keep firing, that is a good choice too.
  14. United States uniformed services comparative ranks Here is some info on the US ranks if someone is curious. Enlisted start at E1 and work their way up to E9. Officers start at O1 and work their way up to O10. The Warrant Officers (W1 to W5) are special ranks that allow an enlisted person to become an officer, without the college degree. Typically achieved by a specialist in a particular field with a lot of experience. When a particular person went from an Enlisted rank to W1 can vary. Unlike the abstract way Xcom handled ranks, enlisted don't normally promote up to an officer rank. Enlisted and Officers are two separate paths. It can take a 25 to 30 years to get to be an E9. Once you are an E9, you stop gaining rank. You don't go from an E9 to an O1 or something silly like that. For an enlisted to become an officer you either get a college degree and then get accepted to officer school, essentially starting your career over as an officer, or you become a Warrant Officer. There are exceptions during wartime with people getting battlefield commissions, but that is not part of the normal promotion system. All the O ranks are above the E ranks, with the W ranks falling between the two. However a smart O1 or O2 will listen to the advice of his E7 to E9s. Who have tons of experience compared to the fresh officers just out of college and officer school.
  15. I have a different problem. I have the email but the id isn't working. Yes, I am sure I am using the right email and the right id. The email is from Xenonauts, not paypal. I'll send you an email Chris. Edit: Ok. Got it working. It was linked to my main paypal address even though it wasn't the address the confirmation email was sent to or is the one I used to register to xenonauts with.
  16. Love the new site. It looks great. I think it will do a good job of selling the game.
