TrashMan
Solution: Emergency landing. Dropship lands, and everyone bails. Dropships either leads the fighters away and gets destroyed or is left there out in the oprn (and gets destroyed). Either way, you sacrifice the dropship to save your troops. The location you landed would generate a rescue mission - send an empty dropship to pick them up.
Safe-Keeper
Simple fix: tell the game not to generate terror missions outside of interceptor range. I personally love the fact that transports now require escorts because UFOs will try to hunt them down otherwise, and just allowing you to land the chinook completely removes that feature from the game. Other than that, I've suggested the ability to add drop tanks to fighters, and that, too, would fix things nicely and be realistic at the same time. Edit: I support the idea of splitting and merging formations in-flight. Would make a lot of things a lot easier. Hovis
Having the UFOs target your Chinooks does raise an interesting question though, just how much air traffic is there for them to single you out? I mean it's a safe bet that civilian airlines and air freight is not happening in the game world, that whole business would be locked down as soon as the first UFO decides to use the British Airways flight for target practice, so you've basically only got military and government aircraft in the sky. With that in mind we can only speculate how many military aircraft are up. It's not unreasonable to think they are just going for anything that looks fishy to them once their crew is on the deck. kenmtraveller
I wouldn't tie terror missions to interceptor range. One of the main variables the player needs to balance is global interceptor coverage. It makes the game less interesting if this no longer matters.
