Actually JA2 is one of the few games that has matured with the passing of time. With the 1.13 patch it became even better, and the vanilla version was, and still is imho, one of the few games you feel like you are in a paramilitary assault against a foe which outnumbers and sometimes outguns you. You cannot, barring some of the cheats, go rambo mode and expect to survive. A lucky shot to the head usually means death and death of one of your team members or yourself hits the other people hard morally. I still play it, I think 15 years have been passed since I've first heard of it and installed it into my first pc, and it still has a place in my harddisk. Yeah the resolution is... a little bit problematic but after you got used to it you still have the same sense of serious action.
My character, a sniper with a Dragunov rifle loaded with depleted uranium ammunition and night scope can own a lot of people but not all of them for example. You gotta plan every move carefully, use flares and grenades and also silencers... considering it is 5 dollars on gog right now, it offers you fantastic possibilities in tactical sense, the best part? You can use a lot of these tactics in Xenonauts
