  1. What hardware are you playing it on? Have you got all the latest drivers? I have a save game that is V21 stable just before I attack the first Base, I could email or Dropbox it to you if that might help
  2. @TacticalDragon animals are great and they definitely know when you are not doing it right and just simply must correct your play style. Pancake will often just stand there watching, but then sometimes he will see my finger flinch so he has to try to stand on it, but the funnies thing is when he wonders over to my GF's laptop (he can fly but opt not to), he really likes that one because it has buttons with LEDs in them, that turn on and off like the CapsLock and NumLock keys or ones that change colour like the WiFi button. I actually don't know how long he could just stand there pressing the button, but I fear that the button would wear out before he got board
  3. @StK Definitely agree, that is why I always bring Extras (rookies) on every mission, give them a shield and just use them as scouts. Self imposed Iron man, teaches you discipline as well, by keeping the control in your hands. I know that this may sound illogical, but I am pretty sure my computer likes to cheat every now and then! lol
  4. @TacticalDragon Yer have no time for corrupted saves, also by saving it monthly, I can go back and not have to completely restart the game, ie tactics for the missions once the AI starts to use grenades, are just time wasters in the early missions. @Palander yer I have an i7 3.4ghz with 16GB RAM and 5xHDD RAID0 SSD's cache and there is still seams to be a huge lag in the ironman aliens turn.
  5. I don't know how relevant this is, but it might help hopefully I am playing V21 stable and a couple of days ago managed to fk up my copy some how, I believe that it was something that I had done because the game was working fine, till I started to mess around with the files under ./Steam/SteamApps/Common/Xenonauts lol The game would often just crash out at the main NewGame LoadGame options screen and if it made it that far would always crash on a load saved game. anyway if you are running V21 stable I believe that you will be fairly safe to proceed on the Xenonauts Launcher there is a button 'Save Location' I didn't bother, but it maybe safer to backup all these files Find the game ID there may be an easier way to do this, but I Create a desktop Icon for Xenonauts then check out its properties URL: steam://rungameid/??????, in place of the ?????? will be your answer Delete any file/folder with the number ?????? in it, under ./Steam/appcache and sub folders Uninstall Xenonauts in the steam library window then delete ./Steam/SteamApps/Common/Xenonauts and all sub files and folders Restart PC, just as a precaution Reinstall Xenonauts in Steam You will have to reconfig all your key changes and graphics settings Click the 'Save Location' button and point it to your old save games You should now be able to play your old V21 saves on a completely fresh install. as this worked fine for me WARNING: if you are not running the V21 Stable, I can't grantee success.
  6. I second this Maybe a couple of check boxes in the New Game screen where you could just select a "Random Terror" check box so even if you achieve air superiority Terror missions could just randomly occur, ie an alien infiltration unit, that has been working deep cover for years, just happen to mail/deliver a couple of Reapers do some random city. So a simple trigger in the game like 'if no terror mission after X days, Y% spawn random terror mission'
  7. lol also a turn 2 that looked something like this in ironman would simply just require me to smash something by the way, this is the beginning of turn 2, I haven't moved anything yet! Sometimes you just get shit on!
  8. Yes the Rookie rank is definitely needed, aka cannon fodder. There is definitely going to be a few aliens behind that door, cause the mission hasn't ended and that is the only blacked out part of the map left. Get the rookie to open the door
  9. I suppose for me Ironman mode is only for the people that can't trust themselves; not to reload every time something bad happens. also the game just doesn't seem to run as nicely on Ironman mode and pauses/lags every now and then. I have only ever had 3 corrupted game files and 2 of them were on Ironman mode, very frustrating (as you all know). So now I just make a pact with myself to rely on the autosave's mostly I do also save at the beginning of every month, before I quit and on the first UFO sighting of a wave. as I too have animals, that like to join in and push buttons when they feel it necessary to do so, which most often is not the best time as far as the game goes. Although there was this one time my pet bird pancake saved one of my condors from a missile, by stepping on the Q key, problem is that he also fired both missiles into empty space and disabled the cannons.
  10. After reading the last 3 pages of this thread, cause I am a noob and didn't see the 2,3,4 tabs until after posting my previous comment. I would like to add, that I enjoy the current wave system as they always seem to be over whelming at first, but the intensity adds to the games fun for me; Then when you get them all after a few not so speedy pit stops for your aircraft, you get a bit of a kick out of it and the sometimes, when dam that bastard got away is still exciting. I like the big wave system, but if there could also be a trickle system as well, just to keep you on your toes
  11. Hi guys Dam am I loving this game! I believe that the problem doesn't lie with the amount of UFO's or the fueling times, but more on where you are able to refuel your aircraft. Currently I always build my first base HQ in Egypt (thanks for the hints guys, this one is definitely a winner), at the beginning of the second month I will build 2 new bases, one in Mexico/Cuba area (called Merica) and one in Thailand/Philippines area (called Stralia). Then as money allows I will build 2 more bases, one in USSR (called Commys) roughly just above where the Radar intersects from HQ and Stralia, and one in Central Sothern Canada (which I call USA) I will then attempt to build my last bases in Africa, South America and Alaska but only if finances are really good. I will always have at least 6 hangers at each base, although HQ, Merica and Stralia will often sport 10-12 hangers (12 if workshop is present). I then run my economy at somewhere between $0 to -$200,000 net income, with 3-4 dropships and the rest of the fleet roughly split 45%/55%, Fighters/Bombers Priority research Alenium Explosives, Laser Cannons/Upgraded Bases, Plasma Explosives Alenium Explosives - allows for easy early game interception as you will only need 1 Foxtrot to kill the Scout (drop Foxtrot speed to minimum and press space bar) and with a little practice 1 Condor for a light Scout. (although you may still consider 2 Condors, if the light Scout is a long way from your base as you will not want to be running low on fuel with only 1) Having many spare hangers at each base allows you to transfer Fighters/Bombers between bases as needed, having the excess hangers may mean that you total Air-force may be 2 or 3 Aircraft lighter, but will ensure that most of your fleet will be in the places that they are needed within a manageable time after UFO contact I also rename all my aircraft to include base name, aircraft type, number; so they are easier to sort out after big muddle ups. PS I know I may be a bit late for suggesting content but I think the already excellent game of Xenonauts would only get better and more legendary! If the developers could make a couple of additions to the Geo-scape and Air Combat: 1) The ability to change troop positions in drop ships while the drop ship is refueling 2) I know the engine doesn't support 3D so a Global shaped Geo-scape is out of the question, but if you could put warp points on the north and south sides of the map, to simulate sending your Aircraft over the poles. ie if an aircraft entered the top of the map on the left side of the screen it would be move to the right side of the screen at about the same distance from the middle of the screen; this wouldn't exactly replicate a sphere but more of a cylinder with the ends flattened, however this would bring more considerations into base placement as currently your main bases need to be placed roughly along the equator or north/south center of land masses, as you would be able to attack things in the USSR and vice versa with aircraft from North America, without having to fly over Alaska or Europe (this is the cold war, but currently this threat/option is completely lost) 3) The ability to refuel aircraft in-flight or at cities.
  12. I always thought that Military training in Russia went something along the lines of "here is a hand full of bullets, now go find your own gun" the ones that survive tend to be very good.
  13. I really like the local forces, it is definitely a nice touch and adds to the living fell of the game, I will often stand one of my men with a Shield between the local forces and an alien (as long as they are not in grenade range) as many times the local forces have returned the favor and acted as a bullet/grenade sponge or even helped me clear a UFO.
