I don't think any of the other lists are likely to get that big to be honest. Also, you can assign soldiers to the dropship on the equip soldier screen as well and I've had no problems scrolling through soldiers there (I don't really use the barracks screen for anything other than hiring soldiers, to be honest).

Ok, after starting two campaigns on normal and playing ca. 3 months into the game I need to ask more stuff :)

1. Love the game overall, still wish it had a more flexible interface. Oh well. Game-wise I have no probs winning missions, but I somehow feel overwhelmed in air combat when escorted medium ufos appear and struggle with the strategical part in general.

After 2-3 months I usually have a base in the mediterranean (Sicily), with 2 condors, 2 foxtrots, 1 dropship, and another in the US with only 2 condors yet, but more foxtrots to come. Seems not nearly enough, and the Americas seem to have less UFO activity, so the condors there sit mostly idle, as they can't reach UFOs further away. Is this a bad spot for a base? Should I focus on a bigger air force in my 1st base instead?

2. In my 1st playthrough I was using laser weapons - is there actually a point in using them once you get to plasma?

Regarding modding: Do changes on those xml files come into effect when you load a (pre-modded) save or is it better to restart completely?

1. You shouldn't be buying more Condors. Any more than 1-2 at each base is a waste of money. Condors are for fighting the smaller fighters. Foxtrots are always the way to go, as 2 will always be enough to destroy the larger UFOs. As for America getting less UFOs, that's an RNG issue. You've just been lucky there hasn't been significant alien activity.

2. All the weapon tiers are straight upgrades to the previous one. So no, no point in using lasers once you get plasma.

3. It depends. If you're in ground combat, you'll need to complete/abort the mission for the changes to take effect. If the mod uses a research item that has already been researched, you won't be able to get it. Aside from graphical mods, it's not advised to install mods mid-way, as they can get screwed up.

There are some questions popping up still from time to time:

1. Those energy cells for laser or plasma etc look all the same. Can I also use them for any other weapon type of their specific branch? So would a cell that is placed next to the pistol (in the equip screen) work as well for rifle, heavy etc.? I guess I can test myself, but asking doesn't hurt.

2. If I don't like a certain portrait of a soldier, can I just delete the pic under \soldierimages\faces (or in the folder for female versions) or will that cause trouble?

1) Yes. They all use the same ammo.

2) I'll leave this one to someone who actually knows.

Yes. It even says so in the xenopedia.

You will also need to edit soldiernames.xml depending on which faces you're removing.
