I noticed that as well. I had two guys inside a house at the windows, one guy outside shot his MG in a straight line parallel to the windows to an alien. Nothing was hit, but the Alien and both soldiers inside the house where suppressed.

I launched an Interceptor (one of the first two fighters) with the "launch interceptor"-button while he was refueling (like 55%). I clicked his icon on the geoscape to change his destination, but all options where greyed. He flew in a straight line north until I was asked to let him return because of low fuel. No such problem after refueling was done.
