  1. I will play ironman also.

Anyways i think that some survivablilty for the chinook crew should be added. If crashed you should have a chance for some crewmembers to survive. Possibly with some wounds. I would like to have almost entire crew alive if the demage was not too big.

As for rescure mission i don't believe aliens would really try to capture your soldiers after destroyng your aircraft.

However aliens can do even more harassment. For example in "Enemy Unknown" book written by Vladimir Vasilyev aliens are luring skyrangers from xcom base as a result the base was defended by few rookies. There was even an idea to use pilots armed with laser pistols until skyranger returns.

    Here is the book btw:

    http://www.amazon.com/Vrag-nevadom-Enemy-Vladimir-Vasiliev/dp/5170097328/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t/190-3537876-5458139

But unfortunately in russian. Very good book for Chris to read if we had it in english

  2. This mission have a very limited idea. After chinook is lost player would reload 99%.

But i think this mission could be done for flavour to have a 50% chence to occur only once per game.

If xenonauts had a release date second half of 2015.

If we had a superduper moddability of this game community would have a possibility to implement this type of mission. But superduper moddability needs at least one year to be focused and implemented.

  3. I think if civilian already in the human containment or have been vivisected then it should change. May be it should stand without move like if it was brainwashed. Or it should produce sounds other then an ordinary civilian and move towards operaitves or try to runaway from ufo. It's human nature reminds that operatives should help but they are not they are. Player would think wtf? Should i shoot at them? But they should not be dangerous as for me.

I imgaine human containment as a room with civilians walking free and having several exits that are not locked. It should not be like an alien containment with every alien sitting in a different cell. Aliens have differen approach. They suppress human minds/implant smth. I would call it alien examination. After this it will never be a human again.

Alien surgery tables can be placed in the containment room itself.

  4. plucx eventually i agree. Some things that making the game easier (and more relistic in this case) can be be overlaped with things that make it harder like a big alien with a long tongue that can suck up soldiers at the door.

p.s.: i like heavy explosive in xcom eu variant

it all depends on the AI and how aliens communicate

well for tactical shooter like ja2 what you say is right.

For xenonauts it is ok for aliens to see the whole map all the time but pretend that they don't. Aliens must have a completely different thinking etc.

  5. Here is an example of open formated event system from paradox game about ww2

This event popos up for finland in case of winter war looming. This event is triggered by another event. Multilanguage text descriptions are stored in a separate csv file.

    # Finland - Reaction Eventcountry_event = {id = 2501is_triggered_only = yestitle = "EVTNAME2501"desc = "EVTDESC2501"picture = "Winter_War"option = {	name = "EVTOPTA2501"			# Let them come if they dare!	ai_chance = { factor = 100 }	relation = { who = SOV value = -10 }	relation = { who = SWE value = 5 }	relation = { who = NOR value = 5 }	chief_of_staff = 29137	# Carl G. Mannerheim	chief_of_army = 29145	# Carl G. Mannerheim	set_country_flag = finnish_winter_war_has_begun	SOV = { country_event = 2502 }}option = {	name = "EVTOPTB2501"			# Fold to Russian Pressure	relation = { who = SOV value = 25 }	relation = { who = GER value = -15 }	relation = { who = SWE value = -10 }	740 = { secede_province = SOV }	88 = { secede_province = SOV }	779 = { secede_province = SOV }	SOV = { country_event = 2503 }}}

Or here is an event for Parliamentary Scandal that can fire for any country. It would fire once per 24 months on random date if the ruling party has oorganisation below 70%

    ########################## Parliamentary Scandal ##########################country_event = {id = 5001trigger = {	not = { has_country_flag = parliamentary_scandal }	not = { organisation = 70 }}mean_time_to_happen =  {	months = 24	modifier = {		factor = 2.0		war = yes	}}title = "EVTNAME5001"desc = "EVTDESC5001"picture = "parliamentary_scandal"option = {	name = "EVTOPTA5001"			# OK	set_country_flag = parliamentary_scandal	add_country_modifier = {		name = "parliamentary_scandal"		duration = 20	}}}
  6. Right, but the problem is that it's such a great tool that it would be quite possible to make boarding a UFO too easy. Boarding UFOs should be a punishing and harrowing experience which demands extreme caution.

Right. I can see a some suggestions aiming to fix the pain in the back that made xcom a good game.

    - Grenades from the corner

    - Breching ufo walls

The game is fun not because that it is possible to win it without saves and without any unwanted losses.

  7. There are a lot of ways to implement alien activities other then fighting xenonauts. It is almost blanc field and was not implemented in any other ufo game.

I like an idea of civilians go inside the alien ship on their own will. But this should not look funny. It should look horrible. If they just walk on their foots then their animation should change somehow. May be they should suffer or they should become very quiet.

May be some probe-cocoon can capture them. This is the most horrible way i imagine. Smth like brainsucker from apocalypse but this thing is gently slowly flying and takes the whole human corpse inside after paralysing it. Then it dissapears in the air teleportating to ufo. It brings corpse to human containment module or to the surgery room. Btw that would be fun if it could capture operative and after you eventually break in into ufo you find an alien perfoming a vivisection of your crew member. Alien surgery should not stop on any ocasion.

Aliens can paralyse civians and make some injections without killing them or without any kind of effect on this civilians during the mission. Human player would be curious wtf? what for this injections/activities are made? Some players would specially allow aliens to make more injections to see what would happen. But civilian would remain the same. Disguise infiltration?

Cattle can be brought inside ufo via levitation pistol turned upside down under convoy of four aliens.

Well this activities must not be funny and it is possible to do so. Also aliens should not act like humans. I mean they should not always perform logically as they have a superior intellect and you should have a feeling that you just can not understand what they do sometimes.

Let's say that you are sent to save these poor chaps as a secondary objective.

It should be horror. You can recieve a bonus in the end of the mission if you have saved civilian in the ufo corridor. But this is an ordianry bonus for saved civilian i guess. If they manage to bring him to surgery room or to containment module it is not a 100% human already. May be it is not a human even after it was just picked up by cocoon.

  8. i suggest:

    1. differ cosmites behavouir depending on what is going on, and what is/was their mission

    2. impement alien behavoir for the case they are not awere of xenonauts operatives presence or they are continuing with their initial mission. ie you can watch from the bushes how aliens are leading cow inside their ship

    3. implement ufo takeof if it is not demaged (on rare ocasions)

    cmon turn on your imagination

  9. Well may be the theme of redneck abduction led me to this idea.

There are two types of ordinary mission in xcom:

    - crashed ufo discovery

    - non-crashed ufo discovery

In case ufo was not crashed operatives can catch cosmites with their pants down.

ie aliens can be cought in the process of conducting their eivil buisiness. The process of abduction istelf can be implemented!

Note, aliens behavoir can be completely different depending of what is their situation, plan and expectations! If they have crashed then some cosmites are fixing soucer and some are hanging around defending the perimeter. Or i more like an idea that they are hanging around with a reason human can not undarstand at all

Also the most important thing is what should be the behavoir of non-crashed abduction ship? Imagine you have killed 1-2 aliens when approaching to ufo at nigh and then it started to lift off. I would poo my pants if this have happened when i was 10 yo playing xcom. Completely new turn.

  10. I don't know may be someone can tell how it really looks like. Guys in theatre HQ can also watch airplane traffic but in a different way radar operators do.

professional outlook of xcom have not repulsed players and xcom was not much less indie (all computer games of that time were indie), however i'm not sure about ufo icon anyways.

P.S.: indie xenonauts does not mean arcade/casual xenonauts. And it is not an xcom simplification for people with IQ below 90. It is a follower of xcom first of all.

Xcom was not arcade nor casual at all and i guess avarage xcom player has iq above 100.

  11. May be lets try to make it look in a more professioanl way.

I like smth like on this screenshot. With some numbers around the tracking object frames.

Plus i like an idea of target identification

    00769036-photo-radar-screensaver.jpg

Here is almost the same thig but target square have an attached diagonal line. I guess that's a direction

    radar.jpg

I have imagined ufo itself more like in galcon ie very small:

    Galcon--article_image.jpg

May be someone have seen radar irl or even had a deal with it. Lets just check it up and understand if smth that is used irl would suit this game.

  12. Lol. I quite never laugh loudly when alone. What a good irony instead of stupid tolerance. You have your idea.

P.S.: real ufologist would like to see autobattle in the same way like it goes manually. But with high level orders like agressive attack, cautious attack. Eject! In xcom you was a command post operator.

Do you remember that movie when guys have tried to freeze predator 2? It is more fun to command your intercepors in this way then to fire rockets yourself.

  13. Well Xenonauts is using cold war environment. It should add strictness to the game. But.

My first impression of playing alpha (8.9) is it feels too much arcady. In xcom i had a feeling like i'm solving real problems due to it's brutal graphics, pictograms, geoscape, graphs in ufopedia. Smth like i'm using adult instruments solving this real problems.

I would like to see earth orbit trajectories on the map

    Fig 4.jpg

Smth like submarine command post map of glass

I don't speak exactly about this things but smth in this style.

No arcade fight during aircombat with player deciding when to fire each rocket

    11292973-radar1.jpg

    Azimuthal geek projection for radiosignals

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Usgs_map_azimuthal_equidistant.PNG

I would like to see no arcade at all but serious brutal instruments.

When you dealing with ufos you should feel like command post operator.

"WTF is on the screen sir? I've never seen such a big object"

In xenonauts it is not right yet

  14. I would like to see it in a tactical airmap style. Smth like if it was projected on the map by sprcialist-operator.

Alien face is in the arcade-style. White sqare like in xcom is much less arcade.

    Remember.

Real ufologist would never use an arcade toy

  15. I must say i dont realy like the one in the xenonauts alpha.

i dont say copy the old one from xcom but i like it more

    +1

I don't like arcade elements in xenonauts. I don't like to fire missiles manually at all. It doesn't make me feel like a commander.

Real ufologists do not play such arcade minigames!
