    I have personally noticed that after a soldier panics it resets his morale bar, maybe this is what you're seeing?

    After this tank was destroyed it nearly trapped all of the soldiers in the final room in alien base mission. Luckily the ventilation system let them still get out. The carcass was left but used a grenade to blow that up. Still couldn't get through it.
