1. I've seen one building collapse with moderate damage, and many more shot to hell where the laws of physics demand they fall down yet they still stand. Really awesome that this is a feature, wish i knew how it worked though.
2. Hehe... got the best timing over here... paid 1 mil for all my bases now that i have the ones i need i get to pay 250k each to finish building radar arrays, but should make getting that first extra base or two up much easier for players on new games. It was doable to get the bases up on insanity but i had to run considerably more ufo missions than i would have liked(if i see the damn fortress interior of another corvette...) and had no money to spend on armor or weapons for the longest time. Sounds like a good change. Maxing radars will cost almost exactly the same but the entry-barring start up cost is much more reasonable now. Anyways very impressive pace of patches wishing you luck that the equip screen crash is on its last legs!
3. That was the biggest dissapointment of firaxis Xcom for me was that the game was just you looking around until you found a small group of aliens then bashing each other until one of you was dead. The most interesting thing that could happen was another alien patrol happening along before you finished beating the first one. Totally lost the tension of the original where the aliens could be anywhere in any number around any corner. Removed a lot of options too, was impossible to catch an alien in the open with his pants down, they would always take cover when you found them. Xenonauts preserves that tension and has the aliens having much more varied behavior as well. Every time you try to flank a sebilian with a couple shotgunners you have to wonder, 'is he gonna camp it up or charge them?' Some aliens will definetely camp in the ufo but it SEEMS like aliens outside will reinforce each other or attack you, judging by the fact that i often encounter 5 of the 7 or so aliens i'm going to find outside ufo near the crash site, with more popping up as i kill the first one or two.
4. While i was digging up saves i also experimented with one i backed up from another terror mission. After sitting waiting until twenty turns map was revealed but i still couldn't see the enemy aliens on it. Maybe b/c it was night mission? Sadly the save from the middle of the battle which could actually be loaded seems to be overwritten and lost. But i do have more other saves than can possibly be useful Here's one from before battle: Here's three that crash while trying to load, no idea which is what except that they came from these missions: pre-terror.sav crash on load 1.sav crash on load 2.sav crash on load 3.sav pre-terror.sav crash on load 1.sav crash on load 2.sav crash on load 3.sav
5. I'll see what i can dig out of my recycle bin, i was backing up saves all over the place and deleting them like mad when i got tired of trying to keep track of which was which. This was happening last night so definitely 1.01. Also i played another terror mission or two since then without problems, really seemed like it only was so crashy after map was revealed.
6. Attempt #1 at terror mission: First terror mission i've seen in game, AI freeze, save is broken, have to backup from a bug report uploaded to forum, i'm set back several hours but luckily don't have to start over. Attempt #2: First terror mission now that i've reached that part of the game again. Game crashes after 25 or so turns as my unit reaches the second story of a building. Loading the save crashes game before it finishes loading. Luckily this time i backed up save before starting mission. Attempt #3: Second attempt at this mission. After 20 tuns enemies are revealed and I launch a laser beam from my hunter at a sebilian on the second story of a building. He's too far for any of my guys to see, but impossibly the shot is flying straight and perfect, when its in midair a few tiles away about to hit him game crashes. ****blocked Once again trying to load crashes game before it finishes. Attempt #4: This time i backed up another save halfway through the mission, loading it works. I camp and wait for map to be revealed. Another random crash, don't remember the circumstances, another broken save. Couple more attempts: Took a couple more tries to not crash anymore, but i was only able to beat it when i didn't wait for map to be revealed, because it seemed like every time i tried to load an autosave in which the map was revealed the game crashed before it finished loading. Are other people experiencing this? Can you load an auto-save (or any save) when map is revealed after 20 turns and have it load successfully without crashing? Reveal after 20 turns is a nice feature but if it's the cause of this instability and can break your ironman games maybe it could be disabled if there's no time to fix it. Players could live without that, but if i hadn't been backing up saves i would have lost 3 games in a row to terror missions and basically would have had to always ignore them in the future no matter what the consequences.
7. Yeah the cover system is fairly wonky like that, whatever's going on I don't understand it. Although far more annoying is when im in a similar situation where i have a shot i don't expect to have like in the second screen shot, i take it, and all the soldier ends up doing is shooting the wall in front of him. I've had heavy waste 10 bullets on a wall like that several times, and vaporized my rocket man inside my dropship in one very unfortunate incident. Other times in those situations it shoots fine, so i'm at a loss to explain it. I will say that now that i've gotten hang of the air combat system i'm finding it very fun and satisfying, much more so than i expected. It's a huge improvement from x-com. This game lives up to all my hopes but sadly suffers from quite a few serious bugs and a few areas that lack polish. Could have used another 2-3 months, i think, even if the entire dev team ended up broke and losing their minds
8. Yeah the second reaper suddenly appeared out of thin air in the same space occupied by his buddy when the vehicle fired.
9. This is a weird one. A zombie was coming my way, i killed him and the reaper took his place, i fired at the reaper with a few guys, and kept getting unlucky so had to blow him up even though i wanted the corpse. Shot at him with laser cannon on hunter, the silly vehicle blew up the minor obstacle right in front of him and took off half his own health, immediately at that moment another little alien spotted indicator popped up. Clicking either indicator jumped to exact same spot so i figured it was just an innocuous bug. Imagine my surprise when during alien turn a reaper ran at me leaving another reaper behind in the exact tile he had just moved from! Needless to say my soldiers were equally surprised, but luckily they didn't have that much longer to worry about anything. I really wish i had not started on ironman just now This may be related to the bug where soldiers without lethal wounds die(which seems to be also caused by hunter splash damage.)
10. Hmm interesting this was also a terror map against sebilians.
11. Just when I'm about to have my ass handed to me by the 4 sebilians who suddenly popped up the AI freezes on enemies' turn. I see a reaper on the second story of a building just before it happens, looks like he's going downstairs, maybe something blocks him and the game just keeps trying to send him down. Can't do anything, game is stuck. Game over, just when things were heating up... great game though. AI freeze.sav AI freeze.sav
12. ah thx for the info. Didn't know about regeneration, that explains a few things.
13. Hey all, loving the game, so glad its finally out(for the most part) after kickstarting it a million years ago. My question is: does smoke lower the accuracy of sebilian? according to the xenopaedia they have infra-red vision and aren't effected by it but a lot of the information in there seems pretty outdated... Really would like a definitive answer on this b/c i seem to get about 85% sebilian, barely even seen Caesan, and i haven't been using smoke on them but if it DOES help it would sure be useful. Love the game but it can be a little inscrutable, wish more info on things like upgraded craft/vehicle weapons stats and such were available.
14. I had the experimental version maybe RC1 cant remember before updating to 1.0.
15. This was a weird bug i ran into today. My hunter missed a little with one of its missiles and splashed one of my soldiers for about 20 dmg or so, i healed her up, everything was fine, completed the mission. On the end screen it reported her as killed in action! I was like... wtf, so, since i was playing on ironman i alt-tabbed out and ended program (whew, sigh of relief, this let me keep my save from the turn before), when i started the game again and loaded up it was on the enemies' turn, hidden movement, last sebilian passed out from stun gas, same as before, then mission report and it stated her as taken a little dmg and wounded for six days properly. So loading save fixed this somehow but for people playing on ironman... Here's my save but as i said it doesn't show the bug. hmm next time i'll remember to take a screenshot Aut.sav Aut.sav
