  1. I ran soemwhere between 10 and 20 missions all in the same campaign last night. I had to sign out of windows after every combat and reload the save to get it to unfreeze.
  2. It's every ground combat. Doesn't matter what map. I've done well over 20 missions in this game and it never fails - any time I kill the last alien, the game freezes (and not just for that 20-30 seconds, I've watched it for about 5 minutes with no change). The music plays, the arrow cursor will move (but nothing can be highlighted or selected). If I bring up task manager, it says "program not responding" but even then, I can't select anything in the manager. The Xenonauts combat cursor appears on my desktop rather than the normal windows cursor and I can't even select features in the task manager. It's almost like Xenonauts is trying to remain the active program. The only way to shut down Xenonauts is to sign out of windows.
  3. I found workarounds for the CtDs, but the game freezing at the end of a mission is unrelenting. 100% of the time when I take out the last alien. I've watched for up to about 5 minutes and no changes. I have to ctrl-alt-del to sign out of windows and sign back in. Reloading autosave (I always play in iron man mode) will bring me back to the last turn and I can finish the mission. This is hard to deal with.
  4. Went back to trying the experimental. Ran into a few things. I lost 2 xenonauts and another wounded on first mission. I guess the two that were killed got lucky and ended up going to wounded status after the mission. However, Charlie 1 was still full - I guess it was still counting the wounded as being on the chinook. The wounded, of course, don't appear in the troop management window, so I couldn't take them off the bird. The game crashed when I took charlie 1 to the next mission (supposedly with 3 wounded still on board). Also, end of first mission, game froze on alien turn. It was the win turn for me occupying the ship, so it froze at the beginning of the alien turn during hidden movement. I've seen there were problems with this before, so I quit the game, loaded the autosave, mission completed. This was when I ran into the aforementioned bug. I think this is a known bug, but seems picking up aliens or alien weapons on the ground will eventually cause a ctd.
  5. I'm having this problem every time I kill the last alien. It freezes and I have to sign out and load back into the game. With iron man enabled, it saves just a turn or two before the last alien is downed and when I finish it goes right to the mission success screen. EDIT: Now it seems the game will ctd when I try to load my autosave.
  6. So I looked up what this means and though programming is beyond me, it seems to relate to constructing and destructing objects. I'm not sure what that means, but I guessed that when I change the default load and then replace an already set loadout with the new default (such as changing the old "R" to the newly defined "R"), maybe that's where the error occurs. Launched a new game and switched role to something else before switching to the newly defined load and I got through it without a problem. On the other hand, the game is still freezing when I complete a combat mission. I waited for somewhere between 3 and 5 minutes, but no mission success screen comes up. I still have to ctrl-alt-del to sign out and come back in the game to get it going again. It puts me back a turn or two before the last alien is killed and then I can complete the mission. Very aggravating. I take that back. Now it seems that the game will ctd after I try to load my autosave.
  7. So, in light of freezes and crashes, I uninstalled, removed saves, reinstalled and didn't opt into beta. Loaded up a new game and went directly to soldier equipment to define loadouts and equipment. The game crashed, BUT this time, I had an extra little message come up before the game crashed and I SS'd it. EDIT: Sorry for the mis-label, this is actually NOT the experimental
  8. Okay, so I'm having a freeze issue when I play in experimental and so I deleted all saves, switched back to opting out of beta through steam properties. Started a new game in veteran iron man. Shot down one ufo over the ocean and another over land. Went into the personnel equipment screen to outfit my guys and set the default loadouts to my preferences before going on the mission. CtD. Right now, the game seems unplayable for me. I posted the freeze bug in the experimental beta thread and out-of-beta seems more prone to CtD. I'll comb through the work-around thread, but I think I may just be waiting for the next update before I can really experience the game.
  9. So far, every time I kill the last alien on a map, the game freezes. The only way to fix it is to sign out of windows and come back. This is making the game unplayable for me. win 8 (64 bit) amd fx 4100 radeon 7700 series 8gb ram
  10. I actually read more into this and the morale system seems to be just like that. The more superiors you have, the higher the morale, as well as based on the rank of superiors and distance from allies in combat. Plus, morale boost or loss depending on which side is doing the most killing. From what I read (and I'll be damned if I can remember where I read it), the morale system seems pretty intricate.
  11. A somewhat more modern rogue-like game would be awesome.
  12. I actually enjoyed the read. I wouldn't put it up for a (enter name of novelist reward here), but it had almost no grammar errors, was an easy read, conveyed the author's thoughts well, and was generally interesting. Some parts were kind of cheesy or corny, but considering the particular motivation for this whole project, I think it fairly appropriate. As for the satellite question, I'm just going to pretend that taking out the satellites was one of the first things the aliens did, but left us generally unaffected, with the exception of a few communication problems.
  13. 1971. I just finished the story that came in pdf. It begins in 1958 with the Iceland incident and ends in 1971 with what I'm interpreting as Xeno being fleshed out and ready for trial by fire. It would be conceivable that the game takes place some years later, but I think the equipment is closer to early 70s rather than late 70s. As for my original question, there would still be limited satellite technology at this point. Most communications would be done by wire or relay towers. Too much effort for UFOs unless they bombed us with EMPs, but we're going to assume they cannot viably use that technology - at least not without messing up their own stuff.
  14. If I'm not mistaken, this game is nearing its launch which makes my first suggestion more a question of "Why wasn't this?" Prone: I searched but didn't see any threads on this. IIRC, you could go prone in xcom - pretty much exactly how you WANT to be in a combat situation. I don't see the need to explain the purposes here since everyone is probably more than familiar with the tactical advantages of being prone. I also understand that it would require sprite-creating which is apparently a pain, as I gather from other posts. So, rather than a suggestion, I'm assuming this was a considered game mechanic, but not implemented. Just curious about the reasoning why. I always felt like being able to go prone was an intrinsic game mechanic for this sort of game. My suggestion (and possibly question) is about the starter gear. I like purchasing even the most mundane of equipment - after all, rocket launchers aren't free, not even for our government, so I don't see why it shouldn't come out of your pocket. I can see that this may just be an ease of testing feature right now. So, will you have infinite starting gear on launch? If so, I suggest not having infinite starting gear on launch.
  15. Glad to hear it. I have fond memories of never making it off the dropship in xcom due to morale failures of guys toting automatic rocket launchers. Of course, I'll hope that this game won't be quite as merciless in that respect, but certainly dangerous. Admittedly, it was some time before I realized what I was getting into with xcom.
  16. No. I have two v19 saves - one for the non-experimental and one for the experimental. They are at different stages of "success" so I know very well they are respectively v19 experimental and non. No v18 saves remain. When I get back to the game, I will remove saves in both versions and start again with new saves. A few questions, though: I purchased through steam, so it will probably be helpful to identify the save game locations. I can't seem to find them, but I do have ironman enabled, so not sure if that will affect how it stores the directory. Is there a gamelog directory where I can find crash records? I've noticed that, in other game forums, having access to the game log helps identify causes of crashes. EDIT: Found the save location. EDIT 2: Duplicated CTD. Went to game folder and deleted saves. Started game in experimental. Veteran Ironman. Exited game from ground combat. Went to steam library and set game to opt out of beta. Started game non-beta. Exited game from ground combat. Went back to library and set game to experimental. Loaded save. CTD within first combat round. Going to isolate some possible variables. A) I have run multiple missions in non-beta as well as experimental with no problem. This CTD seems to have come from nowhere. B) Only entered the "check code password" on the first experimental trial (somehow, I highly doubt that should need to be entered every time I load into experimental). C) I weakly suspect it may have to do with sticking bodies in your backpack. EDIT: Deleted all saved data, started game in experimental. Set to normal and disabled iron man. Played several rounds and created a save separate from autosave. No issues. Left game and loaded save. No issues. Left game and loaded autosave. No issues. Left game, loaded save, stuck dead alien in backpack. Saved game. Left game. Loaded autosave. No issues. Loaded saved game with dead alien in backpack. CTD. It may be that last time I loaded the save game directly in game as opposed to the main menu, but since I had always been playing iron man before (ie: no loading games from in game), I would rule that out. It does seem to be that the workaround is simple: don't stick dead bodies in the backpack. I will avoid carrying dead bodies around to see if the game will still CTD. For now, I'm inclined to believe it may have something to do with the dead body thing (maybe the weight limit causes an internal error?)
  17. No worries. I've never beta-tested before, but I'm sure I'll get to see a few hilarious hi-jinks before the official release. There's something(s) about the way this game was approached that makes me very interested to help at the risk of my own sanity.
  18. Seems that in the non-experimental game, the game froze after killing the last alien. In the experimental, I could always load back in, kill the last alien, and move on. This time, attempting to load the previous game caused it to CTD. This is also the game where I stuffed an alien into a backpack.
  19. After bagging an alien in my first ground combat (literally, my guy dropped his rifle and med kit to pick up the alien's plasma pistol and clip and shoved the alien body in his backpack), he and the guy nearest him became unselectable by click. I can only assume that his buddy was somewhat horrified at what he was doing and he realized himself that he was stuffing a dead body into his backpack and they both just zoned out. easy workaround: you can still scroll-select, number select, and click their picture to select - you just can't select them by clicking directly on them. It also fixed itself after a turn or two. Also on that note, should I be able to use plasma weapons like that? Not having been researched and just gathered on the field of battle? I wasn't sure if the 1% hit rate came from it being unresearched or him being overburdened with a dead body in his backpack.
  20. So, I can't help but wonder. If this is an advanced race of creatures, they must be able to tell that our satellite network is our main resource of communications. Why don't they knock out the whole thing? It's not like we have the resources to protect our satellites from advance alien fighter craft that are superior in near-zero atmosphere. This would make it very difficult to base a game around - no satellite, no gps, loss of a lot of things required to justify how we are able to combat aliens. Maybe there's something in the story that explains this, but I'm not sure where that would be.
  21. Twice now while aircraft were deployed, I've seen my tabs disabled. That is, I can't select the troop, research, manufacture, etc tabs. The first time it happened, I believe I was hiring soldiers and clicked the geoscape tab. From there, I could not tab back into the other sections. Just now, after loading in and finishing a ground mission, I could not tab over to my troops. In both cases, there were no alien attacks or other events going on - only aircraft returning to base (the tabs were still disabled after their return). Currently, it seems I can click on my base to enter the tabs and select them, but returning to geoscape does not re-enable them. EDIT: The geoscape tab always remains "highlight-able" even though the others are disabled.
  22. I've got 6 years experience in the army infantry and can cite a lot of specs for a lot of weapons. Plus, I've studied mechanical engineering at university for 3 years. I think I qualify. EDIT: Also, your inbox is full.
  23. Aplogies. I'm new at this beta-testing thing and forum feedback. I believe I'm playing the experimental beta, so this thread should be moved. EDIT: I reverted to the non-experimental build and this bug still happens. Every time I complete a ground combat, the game freezes. When I load back up, the game has the last alien remaining. I kill him. The mission success screen comes up. I move on. Both cases require signing out of windows to exit the game - task manager and other options will not respond properly. Since the game is primarily based around ground combat, this is highly frustrating.
  24. Thanks for the replies, knowing that it's an AI mechanic makes it sound a lot more interesting. I adapted my tactics to "pinch" the little buggers when they try to fall back. Definitely looking like an amazing game.
  25. Duplicated bug after second combat completion. When last alien falls and the game should go to the mission success screen, it freezes. The only way to exit the game is to sign out of windows and sign back in. On reloading the game, it goes to the last moment of combat and quickly into the mission success screen. Settings on veteran iron man.
