  1. Great!. I'm looking forward to the video. I've also made a new Jackal Armor if you'd like to add it to your soldiers. Also, have you been able to check out my Sound mod? It's really easy to install and adds a lot to the game (in my opinion). It could definitely use some exposure. If you're accepting custom faces I'll be this guy: If not, then anything would do.
  2. Here is my version of the Jackal Armor. I wanted something more bulky, tactical and bad-ass. These guys are not rookies anymore...they've been collecting Caesan fingers as trophies. I've also always been a fan of Starship Troopers and have always liked their military gear so I decided to barrow the helmet. So, here it is:
  3. Did you make sure to download the fix? I just downloaded the files and all the sounds seem to work for me.As for the hunter machine gun sound I don't have one to test, but I didn't change/add any files associated with that. [EDIT: I just tested the hunter machine gun on my game and it's working fine. I'm not sure what's causing yours to not work. If it was an error in the code it would simply crash the game, which it is not doing.]
  4. The only preset soldiers are the ones you can force into the system. There is a thread somewhere about it for the people who backed the kickstarter. However, it's probably going to be a trial and error thing.
  5. Sounds 1, 2, and 3 where supposed to be the same voice with a difference in pitch to add a little variety . #1 was normal, #2 was deep, and #3 was high. I ended up cutting out #2 (deep) because there seems to be a set limit of custom sounds one can add before the game crashes. I actually ended up with a ton of sounds I couldn't use because of this. The game picks the sounds in any action at random. I don't think there is a limit as to how many you can have per action, however there is a set number of custom files the system can process before it crashes. I hope that helps. Let me know if you like the mod.
  6. LOL. It's just really for immersion like Ilunak pointed out. Also the numbers don't make sense from an assets point of view. There are 4 times the amount of male portraits to female portraits. If the soldier ratio is 50/50 then you're going to be seeing the same female portraits over and over. I've done tons of testing for the soldier pool and there are male portraits that I've never seen show up because there are just so many. Anyways, if you don't want to change the female to male ratio don't install "game_config.xml". Your line of code is correct but not installing the xml file would be easier.
  7. ----UPDATE---- I have uploaded a V20 Stable fix. It adds the code for the custom sounds again; just overwrite the "sounds_gc.xml" file in the assets folder.   8. ----UPDATE--- I have updated the female soldier portraits. I refined the edges around some of the portraits so they should look nicer now (no more white outline). I also uploaded a fix for V20 stable. It frees the soldier pool for females and males and lowers the chance from getting a female soldier from 40% to 20%. As for the new portraits in the original art style that were added I plan to work on those on a later date and upload them perhaps when the games comes out in one full portrait package.

It didn't overwrite anything I don't think. It just added new portraits. I need to check and see if it changed the soldier_names file which could affect whether or not you get all the soldiers from the soldier pool. I'm not sure if I should release an addition that just adds the new portraits or wait until the game is finally released and add all the new portraits in one large pack. Suggestions?

  12. Thanks but I don't think it's even possible. I'm just adding a sound in the code for footstep sounds and footstep sounds are applied to all the soldiers in ground combat. If males and females had a separate code for footsteps then it would be possible. For example females and males have different injury/death sounds. In this case I was able to use male and female voices. As for Halflife sounds it is not something I'm interested at the moment. Thanks for supporting this mod!
  13. You're welcome! As for the questions... 1. Yes, it works with 20v5 2. Yes, there are lines for "pilot radio chatter" were you could throw custom files. It's in a different XML file tho. 3. No. My "enemy spotted" only procs when you're being shot at. There are no original sounds for when an enemy comes into range...makes me sad too. If you guys download the mod, let me know what you think of it or if you run into any issues.
  14. Thanks! It should work with V20 and above, since it's the last patch that changed sounds_gc.xml If you are using anything below V20 I might have a file that works as well...who wants to be a guinea pig?

It is not perfect but I can't image playing the game without it anymore. I've spent a lot of time mixing, testing and tweaking and I think it is time for others to enjoy it as well. Jsleezy's Real Fighter SOUNDS adds around 105 new sounds to the game most of which are soldier chatter. I would have added a lot more but the game crashes if you use too many custom sounds. [video=youtube;Z2rb8K1r-s4] The sounds are from Counter Strike. Here are a few examples of what soldiers say while taking actions: - Moving to position - Roger that - OK - Cover me - GO GO GO! - Fire in the hole (granade throw) And many many more. Here is the full list of soldier sounds: Please do note that even tho it works it is not perfect. Some aliens use some of the same soldier sounds and thus some of my new sounds i.e. "Fire in the hole" for a grenade throw. It won't happen all the time...but when it does you'll notice. Also, in some cases there is no way to differentiate between male and female voices so females will at times use male voices for things like "moving to position". I did all I could to prevent this but there are limitations to what I can do with how the game's code works. I almost feel a little selfish for not sharing this mod earlier, but life/work/other mods kept me from giving it the finishing touches...although it's still a work in progress. Even in it's condition I can't imagine playing Xenonauts without this mod. Please give it a shot. Get it here.
  16. It is DONE! I've uploaded the final piece of the mod...Jsleezy's Real Fighter Portrait Pack - Female. It adds a total of 32 portraits (out of 29). It should also add more variety since I believe a few of the "custom" portraits were not being used. I also uploaded a fix for V20 Experimental. This should add all the portraits back. If you downloaded the portraits before V20 you might need to download the portraits again and apply the fix. V20 added the 3 missing portraits so it overwrote the ones I had made.   17. I think you should be looking at three specific .xml files. Try Soldiernames, SoldiernamesFemale, and Strings.xml. Are you using NotePad++ to edit the xml files?
  18. Very nicely done. My only concern would be how legible they would be in the battlescape screen. Perhaps you should add some screenshots for reference.
  19. I do believe my mod would interfere with Pinetree's Extended Background Mod as it changes some of the same soldier name files not related to the art. I have a line of code in the soldier name file that adds all of the custom portraits to be pulled from the soldier pool for some nations. It could easily be added to Pinetree's mod if there was enough interest I suppose.
  20. Thanks man. I like your videos. Also, your video reminded me that the female model needs it's own separate armor since the hands are smaller. I've uploaded a female version of the basic armor (now with more boob).

  23. For #5 You could dig trough the sound code, find the line with the sound in question and set the volume there.
  24. Here is the final artwork for Basic Armour after everybody's contribution. I remade the straps, the pouches and the grenade. I also updated the helmet to cover part of the ear.
