  1. I'm looking very much forward to see a new compatible version of this mod.

I'm with you, I played this waay back in the day and it was hella fun. I like having a tonne of options and a wide selection of stuff, even if its mostly situtational or side-grades.

  2. Well, I'm not sure how everyone elses experiences have been going (I only skimmed the first pages).. but on Arch Linux running wine 1.7.21 it seems to work flawlessly. I had to install wine before running the game (the script only works with apt based and yum based by the looks of things.. but thats not a big deal). I've been playing all day without anything unusual at all.

  3. Like, woah.

This is just incredible looking. Max, dude, seriously sweet. :) Also very useful for figuring out who is how, especially with the Sebbies as the differences are not immediately obviously between a few of them, its nice to know exactly what to look for.

  4. Hello,

    Hi! :)

    - The Plasma Technology Comes a bit to fast i think

The technology pace seems to vary a bit, but I agree. The very first battle I used lasers for the first time, I ended up getting the prereqs for plasma weapons. That doesn't seem right, but the technology pace does vary somewhat. My gripe is the shrike takes way to long before you get it, and way to short before you replace it.

    - More Alien Ranks. I never found a Navigator, Science Alien etc like in old UFO.

Neat idea, but I'm not sure what would differentiate them from their comrades.

    - Sometimes i think the game have to much Ground Combat a bit more time between Research and Combat? Maybe im wrong?

You can generally skip a few alien wrecks if you've already sweeped them. So they are largely optional actually.

    - I like your Maps, pls make more

Absolutely check out the community map pack, and Stinky's maps.

I add more Suggestions after im was done through the game.

    THX for a nice Game.

  5. So, the other day I got a terror mission. Fairly early on, still on ballistic weapons, but with jackal armor at least. Man, that was a tough battle. I didn't recall the Sebellians being so damn aggressive. They got all up in my personal space.

When the chinook landed, I saw two aliens and not a lot of cover so I had everyone run into a nearby building (they could all pile inside in one turn), thinking I could peer out of the windows with relative safety to access things. This actually turned out to be the right move, I think, since cover was a bit bare in the streets.

Then like, hordes of these guys just all charged in! I'm not used to seeing 5-7 aliens in view range at the same time! They surrounded the building and just hammered it to pieces until my boys were hiding behind dubious bits of wreckage and furniture.

It was intense. I ended up with 3 dead and 2 crimson hearts, plus various scrapes and cuts. I went through so much ammo that I actually had to pick up alien guns off the streets to keep shooting -- normally I avoid alien heresy. More than a few times I was wondering if I could actually win the battle. I am playing on Veteran, btw.

It was awesome, and I approve entirely.

  6. ... I always assumed they were underground. Course, the radar shouldn't be there... and hmm. Maybe they are as curious about our reverse engineers guns and technology as we are about their models?

Our warplanes seem to do pretty well against their advanced ships, maybe they thought we'd be using the same tech as we did at Iceland and didn't expect the cold war speed of development.

  7. Is it fire? I thought it was explosives, while the furry Reapers of EU1994 were vulnerable to fire?

Perhaps I just throw explosives at them out of sheer terror though, so you could be right. :)

Tell me about it. First time I ran into reapers in one of my games, the thing burst out of a carrier door and zombied a*gunner in predator armour in one swift action.

Since then I go nuclear every time I see one.

  8. Yeah, you play this game long enough and all sorts of unlikely situtations happen :) Thats what makes it fun.

One game, I moved my troops up to this building to cover the UFO door, end turn. This Sebellian BURSTS out of the door of this nearby building a few squares away and puts his gun right to the back of one of my totally unarmored troopers head. Zap! Miss. I was like, "Woah! Lucky girl." The Sebellian collects himself, and tries again. Puts the gun to the back of her head, aims real slow and carefully. Zap! Miss, lol. At point blank thats what, a 95% chance to hit? Beat the odds twice in one turn ;)

Shortly later, I made a mistake and moved a troop too aggressively forward, poor trooper had just enough TU's to turn at this Sebellian and make a stupid face. He was the last guy I moved so no one could help him. I swear I could tell the Sebellian was thinking, "Yeah.. yeah I'm gonna kill the heck of out of this stupid human." I sigh and hit end turn, this other Sebellian from farther back I haden't seen yet fires off some burst shots, totally misses my guy, nails and kills the other Sebellian who had my trooper dead to rights.

Edit: Or the time a rookie private fired off a burst shot and killed two Ceasians, hidden behind full cover at long range. He had like a 4% hit chance. His first day out he gets two kills in one action.

The pendulum swings both ways :)

  9. Easy.

Open the save file in a hex editor, HxD is free and simple. Search for a soldiers name, look down a bit you'll see text that talks about country of origin, experience etc. You'll see one of "nor", "med" or "cust" the character immediately after those letters is the portrait number matching the filename. That number is in hexadecimal.

Make a note that you can only overwrite, I haven't got adding even a single character to work anywhere. So you can change from nor to med but not to cust. It's super easy. Editing soldier stats and real names is similar, there is six values spaced apart, followed by a number that manipulates rank.

I learned from getting impatient with restarting my game everyone a new experimental build came out :-)

  10. Seriously.

I heard people here mentioning it once and a while so I looked it up.

It's.. like the best thing I've ever seen. Where has this been my whole life?

Only problem is I can't launch an interceptor without getting that song in my head.

  11. Just to make everyone aware, the updates on Desura and Humble Store will likely be on Monday. I'm also getting in touch with the porter so we can start work on getting V19 Stable across to Mac / Linux.

Aaaaah yes, my precious, precious Linux version :) This earned you at least one sale here :) Awesome to hear its coming along! :D

  12. Think it'd be cool to have a little menu or tab somewhere that you could go to in order to see all soldiers that have fallen in the line of duty. Their name, rank, medals, date of death, kills, etc. I'd like to shed a few tears over the number of rookies I send to their grisly doom :)

I'd like this too. For some reason I'm one of those sorts that gets attached to his poor little fellows, I'd like to go visit their graves now and again.

  13. I've reported this before (and apparently is a known issue, if I remember Matthew's response correctly). It's not consistent - I have had Hunters lying in ruins as proof! But also had instances of a Hunter acting as a spotter for 10 turns without drawing any attacks from aliens continually in sight.

Ah ok. As long as its a known thing :) I've actually used my hunter to just chase poor aliens around the map. Just... really torment and torture the poor little thing before I tire of it and put him out of his misery. Its fun for a bit, but really makes things easy when you have an essentially invincible unit sometimes.

  14. You used to put those precious Alenium deposits on one and transfer it to another manufacturing base (back when you could afford more than a stapler). Only to see it shot from the sky.

Nowadays with immortal aircraft, you could just send the guys who keep retrieving your Condors, from the bottom of the sea, to collect the Alenium. Back then it was a tragedy. So it was dropped :)

That's actually too bad... I think this would have been pretty cool to occasionally have to escort some cargo. Would be a good mod if possible, for the players who like it anyway.
