  1. Empire's alright. It's stable now (for me at least) and does the shooty stuff well enough on a large world map which puts it above Napoleon for me. Not sure how wise it is to play it unmodded but it works.

Like Commisar said, Fall of the Samurai is a good, more recent alternative if you want gunpowder warfare and don't mind the Japanese theme and small scope (geographically speaking).

  2. Just ran into this. Dex, a 2D side scrolling cyberpunk rpg. And it really is an rpg. XP, skills, different equipment, stealth, hacking, cyberspace, dialogues, implants, multiple solutions, it's all there. It's not as indepth as in full fledged rpgs but the point is that's it's not merely a 2D shooter with a cyberpunk coating.

  3. Yes but the AAA classification is based on budget and production value (in the high 8 or 9 digit development price range), not one's personal enjoyment. Makes the devs seem a bit dishonest in that regard but maybe they have their own definition of what AAA means or whatever.

  4. It's not only funded, but some jumped nearly 80,000 in the last day of a 60 day campaign to hit some stretch goals like away missions on planets.

Yeah, I'm a backer. In all honesty I have misgivings about their ability to pull it off since their design goals are very ambitious and I dislike how their claim it's an AAA game despite the funding available to them (though I suspect they have financial support outside of KS). PE, Torment and WL2 raised millions yet those are still not considered AAA games.

However simultaneous starship combat and boarding actions + rpg elements in a Mount & Blade-esque sandbox universe is almost a dream come true and I couldn't not jump in. Love the story/setting as well.

  5. Nothing.

I'm always surprised about threads like this. It's almost always the same games being discounted and for the same amounts also it's almost always possible to pick up the games at other places for less.

Less than 75% off? I know a few places where you can get them for free but...

  6. Unattended ground missions still lower relations so doing them "gains" relations via preventing loss, right?

But I'm not thrilled with this change either. Maybe the whole air strike thing was ill conceived from the start. Maybe it should've required some investment on the player's part so that there's no need to apply penalties elsewhere. And the mission rating was, imo, mostly about atmosphere. The rating is a reminder that the council is constantly watching and judging you.

  7. Its already been made ;)

of course the movie is just a shortened version of the tv show...

Had no idea a movie of this existed. Disappointed it's just the series' eps cobbled up together.

There's this as well. The movie gets a lot of hate but this scene alone makes it worth it:

It beats the "epic fights" in all the other invasion flicks (including Independece Day) imo.

  8. Just Skyrim: LE for 13.59eur (18.46$). I find it's well worth it to "miss out" on these things early on. It's pretty good though I'm getting swamped by trash quests.

    @G-Man

I doubt Berlin is going to be longer than the Seattle campaign but both of them together are of decent length I suppose.

  9. I'm already a backer, and I hope they get it funded!

I don't know why it's not garnering more interest, it looks like they've done a lot of work, and they are providing some substantial updates etc.

Maybe because the devs are not that well known or the shoddy voice acting in the pitch video. It's really my type of game yet I found out about it only a few days ago. I'm assuming it's a long KS campaign (60 days)?

  10. This would be nice. I think there are some limitations with the use of sprites, but I think they said the same thing about female and non-white characters too :P

And indeed there are no female or non-white soldier sprites, just portraits and paper dolls. The sprite based nature of battle map models precludes any customization options or rather makes them too impractical to be worth the effort.

And weapons can't be sold for profit because it's basically an infinite money cheat.

  11. Believe it or not I was thinking about Mandate just and how I'd like to make a thread about it.

It's basically a sci-fi Mount & Blade where you freely traverse a star map with your crew and ship engaging in all sorts of dubious activity. It features tactical ship to ship combat with individually damagable hardpoints and components as well as boarding actions.

Aside from usual stat allocation you also create a history for you character similar to how you answer questions in M&B and you can also design your ships' appearance and functionality.

Of course there's a number of factions to whom you can give or sell your loyalty like the Mandate (The Empire), rebels, pirates, etc. The setting is dominated by the Mandate Empire ruled by Anastasia of the Romanov family so you get this Russian nobility vibe in a sci-fi context though other factions do exist within the empire.
