yeah I'd think it would be difficult to implement, as long as there are aliens placed in the upper stories then there will be reason to clear buildings as you go.

yeah I had the same problem, i'm managing to play the game if i do it from my computer rather than through desura

was thinking the other day that it would be great to have a modding site to go to, I imagine that there will be shed loads of mods for this game.
p.s. It's great how much influence the gamers have over the direction of this game.

yeah I guess setting up the shortcuts to act like a pause would serve just as well, i suppose there is often a work around to be had

yeah I'm sure I'd be happier with it if I'd been running complete games from it before now, guess I don't like change (just a grumpy old git at heart) I guess I should start looking at the games desura has, any suggestions?

na you can change the callsign but the name (look below the callsign on the soldier screen) stays the same thats why at the end of missions it shows the name as it was at the start.

I have to admit, I still hit the space bar button, in direct trained reflex from the original XCOM series....
I have slapped the space bar alot myself, can't see that it would be a difficult option to put in and you don't have to use it.

I tried to edit the save file for a name and it doesn't like it, if anyone knows how to do it though I'd like to know.
after I edited it it no longer showed in the load menu

downloading this game is the first time I've come across desura, I've never been a fan of having to be connected to the internet to play single player games but I guess that's a sign of the times. That being said it seems I can't get it to run the game again and I find that half the time i don't know if it's a problem with the game or that there is a problem with desura.
what's your thoughts guys ??

yeah I'm for permadeath too, what's the point if you don't get punished for ballsing up in a mission?

I've had a look at using note pad but it doesn't seem to like it, it's difficult to tell at the moment as things are still changing but I'm sure mods will be out to help soon after launch, still mean to continue playing about with stuff and I'll let you know if i stumble across anything you might find useful.

Confirming that the incorrect values were included in V14.1 aka maxPointsInSingleBattle=100 etc...
I'm in the same boat here, that and on the end of the first mission of new game everyone gets promoted to at least lieutenant. did 2 missions and had 4 captains and 8 lieutenants all of them superhuman.
P.S. this is happening on my first mission not waiting till the terror mission

I'm loving the fact that there's so much chat about what comes after when this game isn't finished yet lol, what about "I'll be to busy playing the first one"? though I did like x-com apoc

I've made mention of similar wishes in some of the other threads, my personal take is that I'd like to be able to re-name the soldiers name as well as their call-sign, that might help fit your longer nick name problem as-well

yeah I guess the aar is where you get reminded that the callsign is not there name, but I'm sure it's because it's more official looking if you use there name instead of their callsign when awarding them, It's only a small thing but it really stood out in the x-com games and it's such a miner tweak

I admit it has absolutely no practical application, but I remember naming the soldiers after my friends and then being happy when I made them the officer in-charge of a new base or the like. I always liked to keep a ridged rank deployment and the success of my named squaddies was very gratifying. I don't think it would take much to make it possible and I'm sure you could leave it if you didn't want to alter it.
I guess what I'm getting at is that it adds to the RPG'er in my gaming

With regards to the soldier re-naming, the answer is yes but is that just the call sign or will it include the bio fields aswell?

I always liked that I could re-name the soldiers in X-com, made a much better connection with them and made the whole thing more immersive for me, the call sign is handy for those of you who want to write stats down but i'd like to be able to change the name of the soldiers or edit the bio of them.

yeah I gave up faffing about with and did step 3, was looking at another alpha game on desura and it did the same thing so I think it is going to be a common fault on their end.
