  1. I thought I had added more detail but could not find it when I went back. Initially I had a CTD. This left all saves but the last auto save un-loadable. That save did have a crash site on the map but could be loaded. Any subsequent saves made however would crash on load. After wandering around here I found the XML fix for rapidfire, applied that, deleted all my save files and started over. 2 subsequent CTDs on shooting an alien resulted in no loadable saves at all. Recently I removed all existing Xenonauts files, unpacked the zip from scratch, applied the rapidfire xml patch and kicked off a new game. I have been careful to wait until there are no craft in the sky when saving. A while into the game auto saves stopped saving (I'll add the game date they stopped later). I still get maps with aliens that do not update from 0% chance to hit and shooting them still CTDs but so far my manual saves are still usable.
  2. My CDTs that appeared to cause save game corruption were always at the point a shotgun bllet hit an alien. I am certain there were at least 2 types of alien so I will now look out for it. First instance I got CTD but had made no manual saves. I started saving from that point on with one save from globe and one at start of mission. Next CDT I tried to load my manual saves. Only save that would load was the last autosave before initial CDT. Previous 2 auto saves would not load without crashing. Playing from that one good save any subsequent saves would crash on load. I applied the rapidfire fix, loaded the one working save but still could not make any other good saves. I decided to start completely from scratch. I deleted the entire save file folder and the xenonauts game folder and re-extracted it from the download. I applied the rapidfire xml fix. Next CTD left no usable save files at all. This happened twice. I do understand this is alpha and I do expect a lot of bugs. I'm good with that. I do think however that a focus on making the save games more rugged would help not put testers off. I can cope with loosing a few hours here and there now and then but to repeatedly have to start from scratch before I have even had a chance to equip soldiers with any alien researched armour or weapons.. I am also quite happy to send any save, config files and as close as I can remember of events leading to CDT whenever this occurs.

I have wandered around many of the issues that cause CTD and found one definite fix for the weapons xml file but find myself again starting from scratch as this did not solve the last CTD on shooting an alien OK, it's Alpha, crashes will happen and it's nice to find workarounds when you can but I was surprised that I could not easily find a thread reporting what I believe to be a much bigger issue: If the game crashes it corrupts all of your save games and you have to start completely from scratch. I thought this was pretty big and worth logging as an issue in its own right. I am hoping that this is something that will be addressed in the next release.
  4. A workaround is to type the same name in and it will ask for confirmation of overwrite. NOTE: Another possible issue I have yet to make certain of is that the save games are case sensitive but always displayed in caps. This if you save a game as "wibble" and another as "Wibble" you will show 2 save games named "WIBBLE" to be on the safe side always use lower case since it is irrelevant for the display.
  5. I wonder if this is to do with soldier experience progression if it only happens with 0% or missing Chance To Hit? Devide by zero anyone...

  7. Hmm. My last auto save works and there is a crashed UFO. I loaded it. Ran the mission then saved afterwards and then CTD on load. Something for people to look out for. Were there other interceptors in the air when the chinook got to the crash site when autosave ceased/broke? I know this is the case where mine went all mung. I've just wiped the users directory since all other saves, including earlier auto-saves did not work. I'll try to re-produce.
  8. I have the same issue. I completely cleaned the xenonauts folder from my users directory before starting with xeononauts-12 After about an hour or so of playing, auto saves ceased taking place. Any manual save I make crashes the game completely when loaded. I can load the last auto save, play the ground mission, make a save. If I then quit that game and try and load it critically crashes to MS error reporting. System: Windows 7 Home Professional x64, 3GB. The game is looking so much more polished and the progression mechanics for alien ships make things so worth while but I agree that I will have to cease testing until the next version if I have to repeat the same timeline continuously. I'll keep an eye on this thread in case there are any save or config files needed for analysis.
